Skilled Care – Life Care Assisted Living – Life Care Mr. Jones has a Life Care contract with Eastmont and has been a resident in the Care Center for thirty (30) days. He previously resided in a onebedroom apartment, which had a monthly residential fee of $1,580 per month. Even though he now needs a higher level of care, Mr. Jones continues to pay the same fee plus a charge for two additional meals per day. If he were a community resident, he would pay the private pay daily rate of $205 per day, or $6,150 per month. The Life Care discount or savings to Mr. Jones when he is in the Care Center is $4,090 a month. If Mr. Jones, a Life Care resident, transitions to the Live-in Center (Assisted Living), his monthly savings would be as follows: less less $ 6,150 (private pay rate per month) $ 1,580 (monthly residential fee) $ 480 (monthly charge for additional meals) $ 4,090 (Life Care discount, or savings per less less $ 221,400 (private rate for three years in less $ less $ less plus $ $ $ Eastmont’s Skilled Nursing Facility) 56,880 (three year monthly residential fee for onebedroom apartment) 17,280 (three year charge for additional meals) 63,950 (Life Care fee for one bedroom unit) 15,358 (28% allowable medical expense on Life Care fee) 147,240 (savings to Mr. Jones under Life Care contract) Mrs. Smith lives in a local rental community, and requires a non-medicare stay in a Skilled Nursing Facility for 30 days. She could possibly incur the following charges: $ 2,031 (rental rate for a one-bedroom unit at a Lincoln retirement community) $ plus 72 (additional charge for local phone service, extended cable plus one doctor’s appointment) $ 6,150 (Eastmont’s private pay rate – $205 a day) $ 9,966* (total cost to maintain his apartment and utilize a Skilled Nursing Facility) * This estimate is conservative since most Skilled Care Facilities base charges on a point system and the cost for an independent residence could be far greater. 3,390 1,580 480 1,330 (private pay rate for the Live-in Center) (monthly residential fee) (monthly charge for additional meals) (Life Care discount, or savings to Mr. Jones) Consider the savings on your monthly residential fee alone: the art of living well $ 2,031 (approximate rental rate for a onebed plus month to Mr. Jones) If Mr. Jones stays in the Eastmont Towers Care Center for three years prior to his death, he could save a total of $147,240: $ $ $ $ less plus room unit at a Lincoln retirement community) $ 72 (additional charges for local phone service, storage unit, extended cable plus one doctor’s appointment) $ 2,103 (total approximate monthly rental rate for a one-bedroom unit at a Lincoln retirement community) $ 1,580 (one-bedroom rate at Eastmont Towers under Life Care contract) $ 523 (monthly savings before allowable medical expense) $ 427 (27% allowable medical expense on monthly residential fee) $ 950 (monthly savings to resident living at Eastmont Towers) $11,400 Annual Savings to Eastmont Towers Resident including allowable medical expense “Our parents, Bea and Bob Kleis, gave us a great gift five years ago when they moved into the Eastmont Towers Community. We, along with their four adult grandchildren, living several hundred miles from Lincoln, appreciate knowing that they are enjoying an active retirement in security and comfort with the assurance of Life Care fee. Airplanes, e-mail and telephones keep us in frequent contact and aware of their happiness there. Thank you caring Eastmont staff and friendly neighbors.” DOLLARS & SENSE THE EASTMONT TOWERS COMMUNITY Grateful “Kids” Cinthia (Kleis) Johnson & Pamela (Kleis) Trimmer 6315 O Street, Lincoln 402-489-6591 w w w. E a s t m o n t To w e r s . c o m Retirement shouldn’t be just a new part of life. It should be the best part! The Eastmont Towers Community understands how important your financial security and independence is, that you’ve looked forward to retirement and that you enjoy your active and unique lifestyle. We understand that you’ve invested your money wisely and planned for your future. Eastmont’s Life Care contract protects your assets and provides a financially stable transition when your needs change. At Eastmont, you have the peace of mind and security you need. The Value of Continuing Care Retirement The value of true continuing care is beyond measure for today’s active seniors and their families. This particular brochure focuses on the dollars and cents and how you or a family member might benefit financially from this investment. One of the key benefits of the life care contract is the commitment the Eastmont Towers Community makes to its residents; this includes the promise that their health care needs will be met regardless of the level of care required or a change in financial status. This commitment, one that NO other retirement facility in Lincoln can offer, allows an individual or a couple to safeguard their investments and their income. Allowing for inflation, Eastmont residents with a life care contract have a clear picture of what their costs will be as their health care needs increase. At Eastmont, our residents enjoy the guarantee that all their future health care needs will be met as well as the assurance of financial security for themselves and their family. Tax Advantage When you choose a Continuing Care Retirement Community as your home, the Internal Revenue Service recognizes that you are making an investment in your health care. As a result, a portion of the Life Care Fee and a portion of the monthly residential fee for Independent Living are allowable as a medical expense. This amount is determined annually by Eastmont’s auditing firm according to IRS regulations. In 2006, new residents were entitled to take 28% of their onetime Life Care Fee as an allowable medical expense. All Eastmont residents in Independent Living were entitled to take 28% of their monthly residential fees as an allowable medical expense. For most of our residents this is a significant financial benefit. What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community? These communities offer seniors independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care all on the same campus. As a result, when an individual’s needs change, there is a smooth transition to the higher level of care. At Eastmont, we make a promise to each of our residents. That promise can be summed up in one word: Knowing. Moving to Eastmont means knowing you’ve taken a proactive approach to your best days yet to come. It means knowing you’ll have as much independence as you want and as much care as you need. Your needs may change, but our promise stays the same. It’s good to know there’s always someone you can count on. I have heard there is a Tax Advantage. Can you explain how it works? The IRS recognizes that when you choose a true Continuing Care Retirement Community as your home, you are making not only an initial but an ongoing investment in your health care. As a result, a portion of the Life Care fee and a portion of the monthly residential fee for Independent Living are allowable as a medical expense. This amount is determined annually by Eastmont’s auditing firm according to IRS regulations. In 2006, new residents were entitled to take 28% of the onetime Life Care fee as an allowable medical expense. All Eastmont residents in Independent Living were entitled to take 28% of their inclusive monthly residential fee as an allowable medical expense. For most of our residents this is a significant financial benefit. Assisted Living Skilled Care Rehabilitation Care According to Metlife.com “Assisted Living is defined as a housing option for older adults promoting independence and autonomy while also providing services to assist aging individuals with daily living.” According to Metlife.com “70% of people over the age of 65 will need some form of long term care, and today Americans are living to an average age of 77. The average length of stay for those who use such a facility is 2.4 years.” Remember, Medicare has strict limitations on its reimbursement for long term care and covers only about 14% of long term Nursing Home costs. The Eastmont Towers Community also provides residents medical and physical rehabilitation services after hospitalization. Fourteen of the 48 Skilled Care beds are Medicare certified and Eastmont files all Medicare Part A & B as well as supplemental insurance claims on behalf of our residents. Eastmont’s fulltime geriatric certified Physical Therapist and professional staff are dedicated and committed to delivering exceptional patient care. According to a recent MetLife Market Survey of Assisted Living Costs, “the cost of care in an assisted living facility is rising rapidly and in many areas, is outpacing inflation. In addition, fees sometimes added to the monthly base cost for services, such as meals delivered to the living quarters and dementia care, may add up and should be researched carefully.” In fiscal year 2005-2006 approximately 48% of the total population receiving assisted living services in the Live-in Center and The Seasons at the Eastmont Towers Community were residents who transitioned to this level of care from Independent Living and are covered under the Life Care contract. The private pay rate at Eastmont Towers for individuals not covered under the Life Care contract is $5,760 a month or approximately $70,000 a year. If a resident were to stay the average 2.4 years the minimum cost to them would be $163,200. In fiscal year 2005-2006 approximately 45% of the residents receiving long term care in our Skilled Nursing Facility had transitioned to this level of care from Independent Living or Assisted Living and were covered under Eastmont’s Life Care contract. Their average cost was $2,189 a month. The professional staff/patient ratio is 1:5 on the day shift and 1:6 on the evening and night shift. In fiscal year 2005-2006 an average of ten Life Care residents a day received these rehabilitation services in the Care Center. The staff also serves residents and community patients in the Outpatient Clinic. In this location, individuals enjoy the upbeat and enthusiastic professional care provided and, with staff guidance, strive to reach their best functional outcome. Outpatient Rehabilitation services are provided to between 15-25 patients each month representing 40-80 clinic visits. the art of living well Continuing Care Retirement Community Independent Living Life Care and Monthly Residential Fees Monthly Residential Fee Life Care Fee Apartment Style Single Occupancy Single Occupancy Deposit First Person Second Person Petite $1,485+ $2,449 10% of Life Care Fee $32,500+ $17,500 1 Bedroom $1,580 $2,544 10% of Life Care Fee $63,950 $17,500 Large 1 Bedroom $1,864 $2,828 10% of Life Care Fee $86,200+ $17,500 1 Bedroom w/Den $2,371 $3,335 10% of Life Care Fee $97,000 $17,500 2 Bedroom $2,371 $3,335 10% of Life Care Fee $107,000 $17,500 Deluxe 2 Bedroom $2,371 $3,335 10% of Life Care Fee $127,900+ $17,500 Standard Occupancy Agreement • An applicant must be at least 62 years of age, and if there is a married couple involved, at least one of the partners must be age 62. • Applicants are accepted for admission on a non-sectarian and non-racial basis. • Eastmont Towers reserves the right to pass on the eligibility of each applicant. • The Occupancy Agreement and the Life Care fee are not construed as a lease and do not create any interest in the real estate or property for the occupant. • Occupants are guaranteed lifetime care. • It is a stated policy of the Eastmont Towers Community that an occupant’s residency shall not be terminated solely by reason of the financial inability of the occupant to pay monthly fees. • The methods by which the occupancy of a resident may be terminated are set forth in the Occupancy Agreement. • Since Christian Retirement Homes, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation and the Articles of Incorporation provide that no part of the net earnings shall inure to the benefit of any member or individual, it is the policy of the Eastmont Towers Community to furnish services and amenities at the lowest possible cost to the residents, consistent with sound financial management practices.
