New orange fleshed sweet potato genotype
A new orange fleshed sweet potato genotype was identified by
Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.), AICRP on Tuber Crops, HRS,
VRGudem from the open pollinated seedlings raised from poly
cross progenies of white and orange fleshed sweet potato genotypes. This new genotype is having purple main vine and has
luxuriant growth habit compared to the variety Kiran. The
average leaf width ranged from 12 to 14.5 cm. This genotype is
under evaluation for its yield performance along with multiplication of planting material.
Germplasm collection
Dr. G. Narasimha Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), AICRP on Palms, HRS, Pandirimamidi participated in
joint survey for collection of palmyrah germplasm along with other AICRP coordinating centres
in Medinipur district of West Bengal from 18th to 21st August, 2015 and collected 5 different

Turmeric is grown extensively in High Altitude and Tribal
(HAT) Zone of Visakhapatnam district. Most of the tribal
farmers are cultivating local strains of turmeric in small holdings of 10-15 cents with a crop period of 2-3 years under
shifting cultivation with low productivity of 1-2 tonnes of
fresh rhizomes per acre. Turmeric cultivar Roma with a crop
duration of 9 months was introduced by HRS, Chintapalli and
recorded higher yield of fresh rhizomes during last year. The
technology was well accepted by the tribal farmers and seed
multiplication was taken up under seed village programme to expand the area under this variety.
Survey of Sweet orange orchards
Dr. L. Mukundalakshmi, Scientist (Hort), Smt. G. Sarada,
Scientist (Ento) and Dr. T. Rajasekharam, Scientist (Pl.Path.)
