2016
Agritech is an international agriculture equipment technology expo and one of the leading event of its kind in
Malaysia. Agritech brings together 6000 visitors to address the strategic, operational and technology aspects
of the Sabah and Borneo’s agriculture industry.
Agritech 2016 is being designed to facilitate effective interaction among several fraternities of the agriculture
machinery and equipment. The show will provide a unique gateway to international and domestic
manufacturers, suppliers of agriculture machinery & equipment, services, creating a unique platform to
leverage the rapidly growing Malaysian market.

Agriculture Industry In East Malaysia

Agriculture total land area - 33 million ha. Agricultural area - 6.6 million ha
(20% of total area) industrial crops - oil palm, rubber, cocoa, tobacco and
pepper occupy about 77% of total agricultural land. Other crops namely
paddy, fruits, vegetables & coconut cover 16% of total agricultural land.
Sabah’s Future Is In Agriculture
With 80 percent of the population involved in farming, Sabah’s future
revolves around agriculture. CM Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman
willingness to improve the lot of the masses mainly the natives is reflected
in the state budget amounting to RM 4,048 billion, the highest and
biggest budget ever allocated.
The Agriculture NKEA focuses on transforming a traditionally small-scale, production-based sector into a
large-scale agribusiness industry that contributes to economic growth and sustainability. This transformation
is based on an integrated and market-centric model that comprises four key themes: capitalising on
competitive advantages, tapping premium markets, aligning food security objectives with increasing GNI, and
participating in the regional agricultural value chain. Sixteen Entry Point Projects have been identified to spur
growth in this sector.
Sabah: Agriculture Earmarked For Expansion and Innovation
Agriculture has traditionally formed the backbone of Sabah’s economy, employing approximately 33 per cent
of the population and contributing around 23 per cent to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The government’s
plans to expand the sector, which remains dominated by palm oil, rubber and cocoa, have been largely
welcomed. Although critics warn of the need to keep the spotlight on education and research and
development, which they say will prove crucial in driving innovation and boosting productivity.
