Setting Up a Network for Windows 2000
The Windows 2000 operating system does not have a
wireless setup utility.
Therefore, you must set up the network using the
instructions provided by the manufacturer of your wireless
23

Setup and Installation
adapter. Depending on the manufacturer’s instructions, you
may need the following information:
• SSID (network name): MODIS
• Encryption (network key) setting: Disable
• IP address: 192.168.1.50
• Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
NOTE:
i The SSID box is case-sensitive, so you must use all
uppercase letters.
We recommend restarting your computer after setting up
your network in Windows 2000.
Installing the Wireless CF Adapter
In order for the MODIS™ unit to communicate with a PC,
the wireless CF adapter that came with your PCLink
software must be installed.
Important notes:
• The PCLink software can communicate with one
MODIS™ unit at a time. If you have more than one
MODIS™ unit, make sure that only the unit you wish to
communicate with has a wireless CF adapter installed.
• Make sure that the MODIS™ unit is powered off before
installing the CF adapter. Software problems can occur
if the wireless CF adapter is installed while the MODIS™
unit is powered on.
z To install the wireless CF adapter:
1. Power off your MODIS™ unit.
2. Insert the CF adapter in the top CF card slot
(Figure 2-23).
24
Non-Networked (Ad Hoc) Communication

3. Power on the MODIS™ unit.
Your wireless CF adapter is now installed.
Configuring the MODIS™ Unit
In most cases, the MODIS™ unit default IP settings allow
ad hoc communication with a computer running PCLink
software.
However, if the default settings of your MODIS™ unit have
been changed or if you have updated your MODIS™
software, you may need to verify these settings.
NOTE:
i If you have not already configured your PC, you must do
that before configuring your MODIS™ unit. See “Setting Up
the PC” on page 8 for details.
z To verify your MODIS™ unit IP settings:
1. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to the USB port on
top of the MODIS™ unit.
2. Move the mouse pointer to the lower-left corner of the
screen.

NOTE:
i The Service Set ID (SSID) is case-sensitive. If the SSID on
your PC is “MODIS” and the SSID on your MODIS™ unit is
“Modis”, your PC and MODIS™ unit will not communicate.
c.
In the Power Saving Mode section, verify that
Disable is selected.

Note the following regarding infrastructure setup:
• You do not need to configure your PC for infrastructure
communication as with ad hoc communication because
your PC should already be configured for your network.
• Infrastructure setup requires that you know your
wireless network settings. If you do not know your
wireless network settings, we strongly recommend that
you consult an I/T professional.
