Catholic Schools of Fairfield County
Exceeding Expectations…one child at a time.
Catholic Schools of Fairfield County have achieved academic excellence in a faith-based
environment. The facts speak for themselves. 43% of our Catholic elementary schools achieved the Blue Ribbon of National Recognition. Our
students in grades 3 through 8 at our Blue Ribbon schools rank in the top 15% of schools in
the country in reading and math. Catholic elementary school students consistently exceed state
and national standards in reading and math. In our five diocesan Catholic high schools, average SAT scores in critical reading and writing are
above state and national norms. In fact, the average percentage of our students scoring 600 or
better in SAT Mathematics and Writing was higher than national norms. 99% of all of our high
school graduates continue on to post-secondary education.
Academic excellence is a Catholic school expectation. When you immerse the academics in an
environment of faith and nurturing, the product is an unsurpassed education. Enhancements to our Catholic school
academic programs help students learn
to love learning.

“My son’s confidence with learning his
numbers, letters, and sentence structure,
has grown exponentially since attending
St. Ambrose. The intimate classroom
setting along with the incredible care taken
by the teacher and aide has been absolutely
invaluable. The core values of St.
Ambrose and its staff are evident in my son’s
attitude and behavior - both in and out of
school - and I thank them for their talent and
their efforts.”
—Brian H. Cook, Parent (Brice ‘22, St Ambrose School,
Bridgeport)

Exceptional leadership
The 38 Catholic Schools of Fairfield County are truly a system of schools – sharing a highly skilled professional
leadership team as well as governance model, curriculum standards and financial structure. The benefit for
students is nationally tested academic programming, innovation and extensive professional development for
faculty. A positive teaching and learning climate helps us educate the whole child and promotes each child’s
successful journey to higher education. Our schools system model continues to gain attention as evidenced by the
increasing number of invitations from cities across the country to share best practices in curriculum development.

Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Fairfield, John Hopkins,
Harvard, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Sacred Heart University,
University of Connecticut Honors Program, Xavier and Yale.
“The High School Engineering Academy program is the Diocese’s best kept secret...we can’t wait
for our children to be involved...maybe we should not tell anyone the secret so there is room for
our children!”
– Catherine Ostheimer, Parent, Ian ’13
(Greenwich Catholic School, Greenwich)
Exceptional academics
Our schools continue to integrate 21st century skills
such as collaborative problems solving, critical
thinking, communication, and creativity into all
academic programs including the popular High School
Engineering program (HSEA) and STEM Programs.
The High School Engineering Academy (HSEA) aims
to grow the national workforce in engineering. The
program prepares students to be innovative and
productive leaders. Student entering the project-based
program commit to four years of 160 hours annual
instruction on Saturdays in several engineering areas
including: creation and analysis of digital designs,
technical writing, circuit schematics, Gforce and
microgravity
experimental
procedures.
The
program culminates with an individual capstone
project as well as opportunities for scholarships and
internships.
Graduating seniors have been admitted to prestigious
engineering universities including Rochester Institute
of Technology and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
This year, seniors will participate in the University of
Pittsburgh Tissue Regenerative Engineering Course as
part of their Biomedical Engineering studies. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics) Problem-Based Learning
At all of our Catholic schools, STEM provides a
gateway to innovation - fueling the power of science and
engineering to improve the US STEM workforce and
economy. Specifically the program aims to:
• Develop and share interactive science inquiry and
engineering design lesson plans
• Change the role of the teacher from transmitter
of information to facilitator
• Prepare students to be innovators
• Improve student performance for entry into STEM
postsecondary education and career opportunities
STEM schools teach the ability to think critically, solve
complex problems, and to drive advancements in
science and technology. With science and engineering
jobs growing 70 percent faster than other occupations,
STEM school students will have significant advantage
when competing for the high-tech, high-wage jobs of
the future.

“Nine years ago we made
the decision to send our
oldest son to Immaculate
High School. Tyler’s
younger siblings witnessed
his experiences and all
three were very eager to
follow in his footsteps and
become Mustangs. There
is a strong sense of
belonging at Immaculate.
The students in this close
knit, family oriented
community are surrounded
every day by faculty,
administrators and coaches
that share the same
Christian values that we
strive to instill in our
children.”

Faculty and staff that are highly qualified
More than 70% of our teachers and administrators hold masters, sixth-year and/or
doctoral degrees. All teachers hold or are completing current certification from the State of
Connecticut. Organizations including General Electric and NASA have awarded grants to
our administrators and faculty for hands-on training in world-class instructional practices. State of the art technology
Technology is used to communicate
ideas, to collaborate on projects, to
encourage critical thinking by looking
at problems in new ways, and to link
learning across content areas and
disciplines. Technology in our schools
encourages students to be independent
creators
of
information
through
innovation and invention. Our focus aligns the personal needs of our
students and a rigorous curriculum rich
in research-based instruction, strategies,
and assessment. Technology supports
instruction and is a tool used to
enhance learning, motivation, creativity and
self-expression. All of our school
administrators have iPads and all of our
schools have and use a combination of
hardware including interactive white boards,
laptops, desktops, iPads, tablets and digital
cameras. A look inside
our Catholic schools:
Our faith is integral to what we do.
• School communities that live the faith we teach and
strive to instill a solid moral foundation rooted in
Gospel values
• Students, teachers and staff come together to celebrate
and pray for each other, for our communities, and for
the world around us • We mark the Church seasons and holy days with
Eucharistic liturgies, prayer services and other activities
• Students learn the value of Christian service - to be
responsible for helping others - begins with our youngest
and continues through high school. Within our Catholic
school system, students work with students from other
schools to nurture learning and living
• Our religion curriculum maps ensure faith is taught as
a core subject in every year of study and is mapped to
ensure that every facet of the Catholic faith is kindled in
the hearts of our students • Our learning communities are small and personal where
each child is known by name • Students are secure in our safe school communities
• Values and faith taught at home are re-enforced in school

“A Catholic education is the most valuable gift
you can give to a child. It is guaranteeing them
success. Strong academics built on a foundation
of faith create lifelong learners and leaders of
tomorrow.”
—Catholic School Parent –Kelli Wells, Parent
(Greenwich Catholic School)
Parents who are involved in their children’s
education…

Parents are the primary educators of children. Our Catholic
schools partner with parents to educate each child
All of our Catholic schools encourage active parent
involvement through participation on the school advisory
board and the home school association
Parents in our schools share common expectations for all
of our children
“From our perspective, Catholic school provides
benefits that ensure a tremendous “return on investment”
- rigorous academics, spirituality and faith woven into a
nurturing learning environment and a community that
looks after one another. Can’t ask for more than that.”
