SASDS & VSSA - 4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE - RADISSON BLU GAUTRAIN HOTEL, SANDTON, JOHANNESBURG 9 - 11 SEPTEMBER 2011 SPEAKERS AND CHAIR PERSONS SPONSORED BY SASDS Sandton 4th Annual National Conference of South African Society for Dermatological Surgery and Vitiligo Society of South Africa 9 - 11 September 2011 SASDS & VSSA - 4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE - RADISSON BLU GAUTRAIN HOTEL, SANDTON, JOHANNESBURG 9 - 11 SEPTEMBER 2011 SPEAKERS AND CHAIR PERSONS Chairperson Scientific Committee: Dr M Roscher Organising Committee: Dr N Raboobee, Dr E Smit, Dr D Odendaal, Dr I Jhetam, Dr M Sacoor, Dr A Gordham Dear Delegates, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the fourth meeting of our fledgeling society, my last as president. It has been very rewarding to see this society grow organically, into certainly the best esthetics and technology meeting in the country. Not just has it become the home for skin and laser surgery in dermatology, but our new journal and special projects promise an exciting future for our society. We have a special program for our registrars - wonderfully supported by Galderma that specifically aim to better equip and inform our young colleagues as they qualify. It has been difficult this year trying to find a balance between keeping costs low for the industry and the members, yet maintain our very high standards. Doing all these things well, will be our biggest challenge going forward. I therefore ask that all members take ownership of this valuable movement, to ensure its continual growth and expansion. The new exco will need your input, help and support to make the most of this very young society. We trust that you will - as always - leave this meeting informed, insipired and inundated Dr MB Röscher with new skills and ideas. President, South African Society for Dermatological Surgery The Vitligo Society of South Africa (VSSA) is proud to welcome you to yet another exciting chapter of its history - that of its 4th annual congress, in association with the South African Society of Dermatolgical Surgery. This year the VSSA is honoured to have 3 eminent researchers in the field of Vitiligo - viz. Dr Koushik Lahiri and Dr T Salim from India and Dr I Sheikh from Pakistan. All 3 are renowned in their field and have participated as faculty members in numerous congresses in Europe and the USA. Surgery in Vitiligo is an evolving field, with new techniques constantly being developed and perfected. Suction blister grafting and punch grafting for vitiligo now have an established place in the surgical management of vitiligo in South Africa. Following this congress, the technique of non-cultured melanocyte transfer will be made available to vitiligo sufferers in this country. The facilities for this procedure have been set up already and the first patients to benefit from this procedure are due to be treated as early as the day after the congress. Phototherapy remains amongst first-line treatments of vitiligo and incorporates several options including PUVA, narrow band UVB, Excimer laser and Excimer light. The advent of home care therapy with ultraviolet light has added a new dimension to the armamentarium of vitiligo treatment, making phototherapy more accessible to both patients and dermatologists. Dr N Raboobee Chairman, Vitiligo Society of South Africa The Vitiligo Society receives numerous requests on a daily basis for recommendations and referrals to dermatologists with an interest in vitiligo. The Society’s current advice to patients is that all dermatologist are trained in the management of vitiligo. It is therefore vital for all dermatologists to be thoroughly familiar with new developments in this field. The Vitiligo Society of South Africa looks forward to welcoming you to its symposium on Saturday 10 September 2011 followed by a live demonstration of punch grafting of the lip.
