Proposals and tips of using noren curtains

A noren is a textile furnishing article printed with various
designs, and it is displayed at a hallway and at an entrance in
Japan.
A noren is used for a home or shop decoration, for room
partitioning, and for a restaurant’s signboard. A noren has
one or more vertical splits (sections) to let people go through
easily. (Approximately 80% of the noren height is cut.)
How about adding an oriental Japanese accentuation to your
home?

Just for avoiding misunderstandings (1/2)
 Noren is a hanging textile
It cannot be bunched up like a soft window curtain on the top. A
noren is only a hanging textile.
 Dimensions are fixed
Although Noren have variety of dimensions, they cannot be changed
into your original dimensions. Noren are not like ordering window
curtains at a home depot. Noren sizes are ready-made.
 Please prepare a noren rod on your side
You need a rod (curtain rail) to hang a noren. Please prepare it on
your side. (A rod does NOT come with a noren.) We have a
separately selling optional rod (extendable up to 105 cm), but if you
need a wider one, we wish you can find an appropriate one at a
home depot in your neighborhood.

Just for avoiding misunderstandings (2/2)
 Noren may be see-through
You may see through polyester, hemp (ramie) noren. Even cotton
noren are not thick enough to hide everything behind. Cotton /
rayon-mixed noren is the least see-through among our lineup.
 Texture hard to be judged from photographs
We try to provide as much information as possible through website,
however we cannot present textile touch in 100% accuracy.
 Colors may look brighter through a computer LCD screen
The colors in the website photographs tend to look brighter through
a computer screen than the actual colors when you have with your
hands.

How to hang a noren curtain
A noren has a rod pocket
sewed on the top. All
you need is to get a rod
at a home depot or use
an existing curtain rail!
About pocket type: There are two type of rod pockets – one is enclose slot type as seen in this
picture, and the other is loop type (some loops sewed on the top). These pockets are already
sewed when manufactured, and you cannot select the pocket type when you shop.

Tips for using a noren curtain (2)
Using indoor or under eaves is recommended.
Exposure to direct sunshine for a long time
will cause color dropping.
Please check the recommend cleaning method
(dry cleaning, hand-wash, or no cleaning) on
the label.

About a noren width
As long as a noren fits into your hallway,
we recommend a noren.
The gap between the noren and the wall
is all up to your preference!

About noren dimensions
Noren dimensions are like:
 Standard :
85 cm wide X 150 cm long (deep)
 Long:
85 cm wide X 170 cm long (deep)
 Short:
85cm wide X 90-120 cm long (deep)
 Very Short:
85 cm wide X 30-40 cm long (deep)
 Extra Wide (or shop type): 170-175 cm wide X 20-80 cm long (deep)
Because the Japanese standard home door size is 90 cm wide X 180 cm high ,
the ready-made noren are often 85cm wide X 150 cm high. Ready-made ones
might not exactly match with western home architectures. However, if you still
find that a ready-made noren fits well to your application and looks nice,
please consider shopping.
* We don’t have “narrow” type noren.

No changing noren dimensions
We sometimes receive re-sizing requests of a ready-made noren,
but sorry to say these noren are not resizable. This is because the
initial setting for the production run is already set up for the
ready-made dimensions, and we cannot change the setting to
special dimensions just for an original piece. (The initial setting
means design layout, silkscreen, and fabric roll preparing. )
