Dear MAELR Students: Welcome to spring/summer 2014. These are exciting and challenging times for students and professionals in the fields of labor and employment relations and human resources. At MAELR, we strive to make continual improvements in our program. To this end, I want to apprise you of several ongoing developments: We are conducting a comprehensive review of our curriculum to both update and streamline our offerings. This review will be completed by the end of summer 2014 and result in proposals to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for appropriate curricular changes; We are expanding our efforts to assist students in career and professional development. We will hold three events this fall 2014 that focus on this topic: (1) general orientation to careers in labor and employment relations and human resources; (2) resume writing and interviewing skills; and (3) career networking; We will be working with the newly formed WSU Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management about other events and activities to host on campus during the next academic year (20142015); We will be surveying our current active students and alumni about their career status and career goals so as to help us with curriculum design and career development efforts. These surveys will be conducted during the summer 2014; We will be contacting active students to arrange appointments (either in person or over the telephone) to review their plan of work; and We will be working on putting several of our courses online by 20152016. We appreciate your participation in our program and value providing you with the best service possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. Best regards, Marick F.
