FROM the
DIRECTOR
GREETINGS
It is indeed a great pleasure to be here in Memphis for my very first Grand Auction. We are absolutely
thrilled to have you all here, to celebrate the Brooks and to celebrate our featured winemakers: Robert
Turner Wines, Tallulah, Bernardus Winery, Krutz Family Cellars, The Scholium Project and Three Sticks
Winery.
I hope you are as proud as I am of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. We have the largest and finest art
collection in the state of Tennessee, and one of the finest in the South. Our amazing education programs
reach out to Memphis children in many ways, transforming young lives through the power of art every day.
We could not do all that we do without your generous participation tonight. The dollars raised tonight
will directly impact young lives, and enable access to the arts for children and adults across the Mid-South
region. Please accept my heartfelt thanks!
The 2015 Memphis Wine + Food Series at the Brooks is led by our incredible chairs Wendi & Marc
Mihalko and Billie & Joe Pierce, and tonight’s Grand Auction event is led by the wonderful Lindsey & Josh
Hammond. It is a distinct pleasure to work with these couples and each of our event chairs on the planning
for the Brooks Museum’s largest annual fundraisers. Our entire MW+FS Committee is deeply committed
to the betterment of our city, our community, and our museum. We cannot thank you enough for your time
and support.
Their efforts are matched only by the museum’s staff, who works tirelessly to ensure museum’s success. I
would like particularly to thank Lindsey Hedgepeth, Kim Williams, and the entire Brushmark and Brooks
catering staff. It is their creativity, passion, and professional management that distinguish the Brooks events.
Please join me in thanking all of our 2015 volunteer and professional leadership.
Finally, a very special thanks to the First Tennessee Foundation, our presenting sponsor, and to all of our
sponsors and partners who share our vision of transforming lives through the power of art. The Memphis
Wine + Food Series’ many donors and sponsors make this event possible and are here tonight to support
you because you believe in the Brooks Museum.
So in closing, I raise my glass to all of you, as Memphians making a difference in our city. Thank you, thank
you, thank you! And Go Grizzlies!!
Cheers!

FROM the
CO-CHAIRS
What an exciting time in the life of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art! We are thrilled to be a part of it. With a new and
extremely talented director at its helm, and a centennial celebration in the works for 2016, the Brooks is poised for continued
success in serving this community and enriching so many lives.
The Memphis Wine + Food Series is the largest fundraiser for the Brooks Museum and it includes many opportunities for the
wine and food lover. It kicked off this year with the lively Brooks Uncorked event, which drew a sellout crowd. We raised more
money this year than ever before! This was in large part a result of the efforts of our chairs, Suzanne and Jon Scharff, along
with the rock star team that they put together.
The Private Winemaker Dinner was held at the home of close friends of the Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Farmer. A lovely
evening was enjoyed by a sellout crowd of 75 lucky attendees. They enjoyed wines from all of the 2015 vintners: Bernardus
Winery, Tallulah, Robert Turner Wines, Krutz Family Cellars, Three Sticks Winery and The Scholium Project. This year, locallyacclaimed chefs Michael Hudman and Andy Ticer shared the stage along with fellow Memphian Jonathan Magallanes and
guest chefs, Jeff Michaud and Brad Spence of Philadelphia, and Gerard Craft of St. Louis. All of them have been finalists for
or won prestigious James Beard Awards, so we were blessed indeed. Chairs for this dinner were Pamela Hauber and Steve
West. They put their unique touch on this dinner, for which we are so thankful.
And soon, we look forward to announcing the details for the fabulous fall Fleming’s Wine Dinner, chaired by Sophie and Mat
Parker. Tonight, we find ourselves at the Brooks Grand Auction, which promises to be a night to remember. Many thanks to
Lindsey and Josh Hammond for chairing tonight’s event and to all of our featured vintners who are here to celebrate and
share their wines with us. We are in for a real treat!
The final event of the series, Vin-A-Que, will take place on October 2nd, and will highlight local BBQ offerings from various
venues, both on and off the beaten path. Locally-owned Cornerstone Cellars will be our featured winery. Our chair, Chris
Shelton, envisions making this a grassroots event that will make every Memphian proud. We are looking forward to the best
Vin-A-Que yet, and welcoming you all back to the Brooks in October.
We are very honored to serve as chairs for the 2015 Memphis Wine + Food Series. We wholeheartedly believe in the
Brooks Museum and all that it does for our community. Besides hosting a world-class art collection, the Brooks is recognized
nationally for its innovative educational programs and community outreach. The museum partners with schools, social
agencies, and under-served areas to enable children to enjoy the museum’s exhibitions with their families, but more
importantly, to interact with art in a way that benefits their lives.
Thanks to Brooks Wine + Food Series Manager Lindsey Hedgepeth and to Director of Development Kim Williams for their
tireless hours spent making these events successful for the ultimate benefit of our city’s children. Many, many thanks to our
sponsors, vintners, chefs, support staff, donors and especially you for making the Memphis Wine + Food Series a success. We
could not do it without you! And finally, welcome to our new director, Emily Ballew Neff, and her family. We hope you love
Memphis as much as we do!

THE
SERIES
ABOUT
The Memphis Wine + Food Series is the premier
fundraising event for the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
Held each year, these prestigious events were created in
the late 1980s as a biannual event, and over the last 18
years have grown into the most prominent annual wine
auction in the Mid-South region.
Since the early 1990s, the series has contributed over $4
million in net revenue to the Memphis Brooks Museum
of Art. Unique to the Memphis Wine + Food Series is the
expense to revenue ratio: we are proud to direct proceeds
raised from these events back into our award-winning
educational programming for our Memphis community.
The Brooks is enormously grateful to the many donors,
buyers, and participants who worked so hard over the years
to make these events a success. Countless people have
given their time, talent and resources for the benefit of the
Wine + Food Series and, ultimately, the museum.

THE
MUSEUM
Dedicated to the vision of transforming lives through the power of art, the
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is one of the most innovative and community
focused art museums in the nation. With an encyclopedic art collection spanning
millennia of time, the Brooks Museum serves as a cultural cornerstone of our city,
state, and region. Through the strength of unsurpassed professional practice,
new scholarship, special exhibitions, and a permanent collection built on over 99
years of community investment, the board and staff of the Brooks are devoted
to making our city a better place to work, live, and play. In recent years, the
Brooks has grown to particular note in its deeply embedded education programs,
which have included a new early childhood initiative and art therapy programs.
Museums around the country are following the Brooks’ lead.
Founded in 1916, the Brooks Museum is a vibrant cultural complex composed
of 29 galleries, two art classrooms, a print study room, a private research library
and a professional auditorium with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment. In
addition, the Brooks includes an award-winning restaurant, a museum store, and
both public and private meeting spaces. Each year in our galleries we present
more than a dozen special exhibitions and an ever-changing selection from our
permanent collection. The art we present is brought to life by public programs
for children and adults throughout the year, including numerous film screenings,
visiting lecturers, dance performances and free family events.
The Brooks is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that depends on the
generosity of Memphians to support the museum’s impact through charitable
giving, grants, sponsorships, and earned revenues. The Brooks’ membership
program is highly active and raises over a half million dollars each year in
support. The Brooks is open five days a week and is always free on Wednesdays
as well as numerous special community days and festivals each year.

THANK YOU
Our company established a private charitable foundation in 1993 to support nonprofit organizations in the communities we
serve. We invest in a way that engages our employees, responds inclusively to needs and promotes progress and prosperity
across Tennessee.
Since its inception, our foundation has donated more than $55 million to meet community needs. The foundation was
twice chosen as one of the most outstanding foundations by the Memphis chapter of the National Society of Fundraising
Executives for its leadership in philanthropy and community involvement and a certificate of recognition for our outstanding
work in the community from the American Bankers Association. The committee was impressed with the foundation’s initiative,
creativity and dedication, especially in today’s challenging economic environment.
Art lifts our spirits and expands our horizons. Because art plays a vital role in a healthy community, expressing the diversity
within our common humanity, the First Tennessee Foundation is a long-time supporter. One of our signature investments is
ArtsFirst, a program to promote excellence and enrichment in the arts in Memphis. This new approach allows us to leverage
the grant-making expertise of ArtsMemphis while ensuring we continue to make a significant impact in the community.
To celebrate First Tennessee’s 150th anniversary, in 2014 the First Tennessee Foundation gave away $5,000 every day, to a
different nonprofit for 150 days.

WINEMAKERS
MIKE DRASH Owner/Winemaker, Tallulah
Mike Drash comes from a Southern Family with deep roots in farming and religion. Several
generations of farmers and ministers make a large part of his family tree. Raised in Memphis just
north of the family farm in Como, Mississippi, you could count on two things: Church on Sunday,
and fresh farm-raised meals on the table afterwards. Mike always had a yearning for the outdoors
and the good life. After graduation from Rhodes College, the urge to travel took over and he
found himself in the Florida Keys for 15 months, where he found his love for wine and food. With
the encouragement of a good friend, he moved to California and landed at DeLoach Vineyards
as a cellar rat. The occasional chance to drive a tractor was the highlight of a burgeoning career
as a winemaker. After a brief stint at Jordan Sparkling Wine, he was named Assistant Winemaker
at the prestigious winery, Far Niente. In 2003 the opportunity to head up the winemaking
operations at Luna Vineyards arose. Following in the footsteps of John Kongsgaard, he
embraced a minimalist style of winemaking. Coaxing the smallest detail from the vineyard and a
hands-off style in the cellar, Luna’s red wines began to get the attention of the world’s most demanding critics. In November
2009 Mike left his post at Luna and began his focus on Tallulah Wines, which happened to be his daughter’s first name. Tallulah
Bankhead is a distant cousin on his mother’s side, as well. Tallulah focuses on single vineyard wines from sustainable and organic
vineyards and there is no fining or filtering of the wines.
ROBERT TURNER Owner/Winemaker, Robert Turner Wines
Memphis resident Bob Turner graduated from White Station High School, Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee
School of Dentistry, after which the U.S. Navy sent Bob and his wife, Shirley, to California. In 1970 they settled in Palo Alto
where Bob practiced dentistry for 37 years in the Stanford Medical Center. Bob began his wine-making career in 1986 on a
friend’s property in the Santa Cruz mountains, overlooking what is now Silicon Valley, with a
group of friends. The wine, and the property were named Rancho Diablo. To add to his wine
knowledge during this time, Bob studied oenology and wine chemistry at UC Davis. Eventually
Rancho Diablo was sold, and after the Turners moved to San Francisco, Bob started making wine
in their garage, to the delight of the neighbors. Robert Turner Wines was started in St. Helena
in the Napa Valley in 2004 in a friend’s winery, and features carefully handcrafted varietals:
Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a Rosé. Production is kept to just below 500 cases
per year, with the grapes sourced from premium vineyards in Napa and the Russian River area of
Sonoma Valley. Bob is the winemaker, overseeing every step of the wine’s evolution from harvest
to sale. The wines are distributed in Toronto, Memphis and Chattanooga, where they are found
in numerous restaurants and wine stores. The Turners have a home in Memphis. They divide their
time between here and California, where they enjoy their children and grandchildren in San Francisco and Laguna Beach.
When not spending time with family or working on wines, Bob can be found on a golf course or a trout stream. 17
ROB BAKER Director of Sales and Marketing Global, Bernardus Winery
Born and raised in Memphis, Rob Baker is a graduate of White Station High School and Baylor University. Upon graduation, Rob
planted vines with Perry Welch of Millington plant vines in 1995 at what would become Old Millington Road Winery. After moving
to California to attend UC Davis, he ended up working harvest and crush for cult Cab producer Kathryn Kennedy in the Santa
Cruz Mountains. His love for wine and winemaking led him to start working for Bernardus in sales
and marketing in 1998 and the rest, as they say, is history. He currently serves as the Director of
Sales and Marketing Global for Bernardus Winery. Dutch winery owner Bernardus Marinus Pon has
a unique heritage. His family is responsible for bringing the first Volkswagen to the U. S., he was
in the Munich Olympics in 1972, and he also served as team leader for Porsche Holland Racing
for many years. Winemaker Dean DeKorth did all his schooling in Burgundy with LaFlaive and
others. He is an avid lover of BBQ so Baker trades him winemaking skills for BBQ secrets. Baker
is the owner of Me and the Hound Memphis BBQ in Monterey County, California, a company set
up to raise money for charities like SPCA, CASA, Boys and Girls Club, and Make-A-Wish. He is
also fortunate enough to cook his BBQ in Clint Eastwood’s 4th Tehama BBQ every year (8 years
running) and for Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival (alongside Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud,
Morimoto, Bobby Flay and others) every year since inception. He truly embodies the Memphis meets Monterey mentality.
PATRICK KRUTZ Owner/Winemaker, Krutz Family Cellars
Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Patrick exemplifies the “Southern” gentleman. After graduating from Ole Miss in 2001,
he went on a journey that started in Fiji and led throughout many countries along the way, ending the summer of 2002 in
Carmel, California. While working at his day job at The Cheese Shop in Carmel, he was also getting his feet wet at night (and
on days off) in grapes. Krutz Family Cellars was born in the summer of 2003 in Monterey Country, California. Krutz started the
winery with the idea of producing 60 cases of built-by-hand (and feet) wine for family and friends. After growing each year and
moving a couple times, the winery and tasting room have settled in Santa Rosa, California. Since
Krutz Family Cellars’ conception, there has been one defining constant: a sensational portfolio
of wines that are also true to varietal character and vineyard fingerprint, that also bear individual
style, and unsurpassed quality. In just a few short years, Patrick has been able to identify grapes
from some of the most prestigious vineyards in California. Once the grapes are in the winery,
we guide the wine with a light hand, and the end result is a wine that speaks for itself. Youngest
brother Cole came on the scene in 2007 and has been assisting in the cellar ever since. Also
joining the operation (and the family) in 2008 was Rebecca Krutz. Rebecca and Patrick have two
sons and a daughter. When the business was founded, the word “Family” was included due to
Patrick’s close family ties, but now it encompasses an even bigger and broader meaning. After
all, anyone that enjoys a bottle of Krutz Family Cellars is a part of the Krutz extended family. On
the label, the Magnolia, the state flower and tree of Mississippi, is a symbol of their Southern roots and way of life. It’s been
said, “One can’t get to where they are going without knowing where they’ve been,” and at Krutz Family Cellars they take pride
in where they’re from and where they are aiming to go.

ABE SCHOENER Owner/Winemaker, The Scholium Project
Abe Schoener is winemaker at the Scholium Project and Red Hook Winery. A former professor
of philosophy, Schoener became fascinated with wine after starting a small organic garden at
his home in Annapolis, Michigan. Eventually his fascination with agriculture led him to leave
his academic life behind and pursue winemaking in California. Unlike many who take up
winemaking midlife, Schoener chose to utilize neglected and forgotten vineyards and vines in
his productions. Schoener’s pursuit of offbeat vineyards has led him to produce wines using
grapes from New York State as well as California. Schoener has attracted a cult following with his
unconventional wines. He has become well-known for his experimental winemaking techniques
and the earthy, distinct flavors of his vintages. Adventurous oenophiles the world over adore
Schoener’s wines, ensuring that the winemaker’s boutique productions sell out within weeks of
their release. Notable restaurants including The French Laundry and Momofuku Ko have also
featured Scholium wines. The Brooks is pleased to welcome this truly distinct winemaker and his wonderful creations.
BOB CABRAL Director of Winemaking, Three Sticks Winery
There is very good reason Bob Cabral’s name is synonymous with great Pinot Noir. With decades of experience in Sonoma
County, Bob’s passion, experience and following for his work with the varietal is second to none. From 1998 to 2014 Bob was
winemaker for Williams Selyem. There, he led the winery into a new era, overseeing an expansion of new vineyard sources and
bottlings for the brand, along with the construction of a state-of-the art winery. Bob’s interest in wine and farming began in
childhood helping his grandfather make wine in a barn. Growing up pruning grapes, irrigating
vineyards and harvesting grapes became routine on his family’s 70-acre ranch near Escalon,
California. A fourth-generation farmer and grape grower from the great San Joaquin Valley, he
took all he learned at the family farm and applied it to his degrees at Fresno State University.
While in college, his passion for Pinot Noir became evident as he spent every spare dime, and
a good chunk of his student loans, on buying wines from all over the world—mostly Burgundy
and Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs. After graduating in the mid-1980s, Bob knew that Sonoma
County was where he could best hone his skills and make wines to rival the best in the world. He
spent 11 vintages in various winemaking positions—associate winemaker at DeLoach Vineyards,
custom crush winemaker at Kunde Family Estate, winemaker at Alderbrook Vineyards and
winemaker at Hartford Court Winery—before taking his seminal position at Williams Selyem.
Bob’s winemaking philosophy has remained constant throughout his career—to source and
farm the best fruit possible, with minimal intervention in the cellar. He was awarded the 2011 Wine Star Award from The Wine
Enthusiast as “Winemaker of the Year.”

WINEMAKERS
CHEFS
ANDREW TICER AND MICHAEL HUDMAN
Born and bred Memphians, Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman opened Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen in 2008
to feature innovative Italian cooking rooted in Southern tradition. The chefs trained at Johnson and Wales
University in Charleston, South Carolina and the Italian Culinary Institute in
Calabria, Italy. Their newest restaurant, Hog & Hominy, is a wood burning,
neighborhood eatery and has been named one of the top new restaurants by
GQ Magazine, Southern Living, and Bon Appetit. It was also a semi-finalist
for Best New Restaurant from the James Beard Foundation, which previously
named the chefs semi-finalists for the Best Chef: Southeast award for three
consecutive years in 2012, 2013, and 2014. In 2013, they were awarded Food
& Wine Magazine’s Best New Chefs Award and named in Starchefs.com’s
2014 Kentucky-Tennessee Rising Star Chefs. In his review of the restaurants in
2013, Pete Wells of the New York Times called the restaurants “a sibling rivalry
worth diving into.” Early 2015 saw the opening of the chefs’ third space, a craft
butcher shop and café, complete with classic pastries, coffee, espresso and cicchetti served in the dim sum style.
Porcellino’s Craft Butcher received four stars from The Commercial Appeal.
GERARD CRAFT
Chef Gerard Craft is the executive chef and owner of Niche Food Group in St. Louis, Missouri. After opening
Niche in 2005 at the age of 25, Chef Craft has extended his restaurant group to include Taste by Niche, a modern
speakeasy, Brasserie by Niche, a classic French bistro, his approachable Italian concept, Pastaria and his first fast
casual concept, Porano Pasta + Gelato opening this summer in downtown St. Louis. Chef Craft’s creative yet simple
food has earned him recognition as a Food & Wine Best New Chef, Inc. magazine’s “Star Entrepreneurs under
30” as well as a six-time James Beard Foundation Finalist for Best Chef: Midwest. A native of Washington, D.C.,
Chef Craft became addicted to the restaurant life while living in Salt Lake City as a snowboard photographer. Chef
Craft went on to cook at Bistro Toujours in Park City, Utah and Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California as well
as a stage at Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey before making the leap to open a restaurant of his
own. Always a believer in following intuition, Chef Craft settled on the boarded-up building in the Benton Park
neighborhood of St. Louis, a Midwestern city that he had never visited. Since opening Niche in 2005, Chef Craft
has been highly acclaimed for his innovative interpretations of what he calls “humble” Midwest ingredients – the
best available from numerous local area farmers. Niche Food Group sources their menus through relationships with
area farmers. Craft and his wife, Susan, live in St. Louis with their two daughters.

JEFFREY A. MICHAUD
Executive Chef and Co-Owner of Osteria Restaurant Philadelphia, Osteria Restaurant New Jersey, Alla Spina, Pizzeria
Vetri, Lo Spiedo and Amis Restaurant in Philadelphia, Jeff Michaud began his cooking career at age 13 in a pizza
shop in his home state of New Hampshire. Inspired by his grandmother’s cooking and the beautiful wedding cakes
she created, Jeff attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and graduated in 1998. He moved
to Aspen, Colorado, to join the kitchen staff at the Caribou Club and working his way up to Executive Sous Chef.
Jeff then moved to Philadelphia to work for critically-acclaimed Chef Marc Vetri at Ristorante Vetri as the Sous Chef.
Discovering his love for Italian cooking in Marc’s kitchen, Jeff decided to further hone his skills by moving to Bergamo,
Lombardia, Italy. He worked there at Mangili, a family-owned butcher shop, where he refined his skills in meat
fabrication, sausage, and making salumi. Over the next three years, Jeff worked his way through the top restaurants
of northern Italy, including Michelin starred Frosio and La Lucanda, as well as La Brughiera, Ristorante Loro and Ol Fa
Pasticceria. His tour of northern Italy culminated with the position of Executive Chef at Locanda del Biancospino, a
small inn in the foothills of the Alps. In 2006, Jeff returned to the United States, working throughout New England,
and a year later opened Osteria with Marc Vetri in Philadelphia. In 2008, The James Beard Foundation nominated
Osteria for “Best New Restaurant” and in 2010, awarded Jeff the James Beard Award for Best Mid-Atlantic Chef. In
2011, the online magazine The Daily Meal, named Osteria as one of the 101 Best Restaurants in America and Food
& Wine magazine nominated Jeff for “Best Chef – Peoples Choice” in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2012 Jeff published
his first cookbook called Eating Italy. Jeff lives in Philadelphia with his wife Claudia and daughter Gaia.
BRAD SPENCE
Brad Spence developed his passion for food as a child cooking at home with his mother. In high school, he began
working in small restaurant kitchens before entering the Culinary Institute of America and formalizing his studies. While
at the CIA, Brad worked at the acclaimed Fifth Floor in San Francisco under Chef George Marrone. Upon graduation, he
moved to New York City to work for award-winning Chefs Tom Colicchio at Craftbar, and Mario Batali at Casa Mono.
In 2006, Brad relocated to Philadelphia to take the helm at Chef Marc Vetri’s critically acclaimed flagship restaurant, Vetri.
In his first full year as Vetri’s Chef de Cuisine, Brad continued to hone his skills in Italian cuisine, and helped construct a
curing room, allowing the Vetri Family of Restaurants to offer a full house-made salumi program. To further his culinary
education, Brad took an educational sabbatical in Italy to study and apprentice at Ristorante Loro and Taverna Colleoni
in Bergamo, Italy. Though most of his career was spent working upscale restaurants, Brad always remained enamored
with more rustic, trattoria-style Italian cuisine. In 2010, he was given his opportunity to pursue his culinary passion when
he became Executive Chef/Partner of Amis. That same year, Bon Appetit magazine named Amis one of the top 10
places for pasta in the country. It remains one of Philadelphia’s top dining destinations.
In both 2013 and 2014, Brad was named a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef: MidAtlantic” award. As an integral part of the Vetri Family, Brad is one of the chef/partners in the group’s recent projects,
including Osteria Moorestown, Pizzeria Vetri and the forthcoming, Lo Spiedo. A proud New Jersey native, Brad currently
lives in Collingswood, NJ, with his wife Kim and their three children. When he’s not at the restaurant, Brad can be found
training in Brazilian jiu jitsu, and cooking for his family.

AUCTION PROCEDURES
Each lot will be offered in catalogue sequence. Any variation from the catalogue description will be
announced by the auctioneer at the time the lot is offered. Please listen carefully as the auctioneer
announces each lot number. Bidding will commence at the auctioneer’s discretion. Each lot will be sold
to the highest bidder. Bidding will advance in increments determined by the auctioneer. All sales are
final. Indication of a bid should be made by a positive display of your numbered bid paddle and may be
made directly to the auctioneer or any of the auction spotters nearby.
1. The auction will begin promptly at 4:30 pm, Saturday, May 9 and continue without interruption until
all items have been auctioned. Doors will open at 3:30 pm, for preview in order to give bidders an
opportunity to view the various items prior to bidding.
2. In order to enter a bid, a bidder must raise his or her bid paddle high and attract the attention of the
auctioneer or of one or more of the auction spotters. This must be repeated each time you initiate or
increase a bid. Each bid legally obligates the bidder to pay his bid price in full if his or her bid is deemed
the high bid at the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. The auction will be fast paced so the bids must be
made quickly!
3. Payment by the successful bidder may be made at the end of the auction. Please wait until you are
finished bidding on all desired items before making payment. Payment may be made with cash, check,
Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express. Checks should be made payable to Memphis Brooks
Museum of Art. Payment in full is mandatory immediately following the auction. Bidders are encouraged
to use express checkout (available at auction registration). If express checkout is the preferred method
of payment, a credit card will be swiped for $0.00. At the conclusion of the auction, the respective credit
card will be charged for all items purchased by the bidder. There is no need to pay again at checkout,
and the bidder may simply pick up his or her purchases at the designated “pick up” location. All
purchases will include a receipt with tax identification for your records.
24
4. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds for items by the donors or this institution
except where specified, unless donor is unable to fulfill obligation as described. Please do not ask the
donors for exchanges or refunds! Purchased items are not transferrable, nor can they be resold.
5. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art has endeavored to catalog and describe the items and services
correctly; however, all lots are sold “as is.” Certain auction items and/or services may have restrictive use
or other qualifications which may affect value, application, or use thereof to bidder. Many items such
as the vacation packages are non-transferable (see Trip Guidelines for complete details). Purchasers are
bound by the precise restrictions specified by the donors. The terms are non-negotiable. Please read
each lot carefully for specifications and limitations.
6. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art makes no express or implied warranties of any kind or nature
with respect to the property or services, and in no event shall it be responsible for the correctness of
description, nor deemed to have made any representation or warranty of description, genuineness,
authenticity, or condition of the property or services and no statement made in the catalogue or in the
bill of sale or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty or representation or an assumption of liability.
By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against either Memphis Brooks Museum
of Art or the donor of the property or services, and neither Memphis Brooks Museum of Art nor the
donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damages to property that may result from the utilization
of property or services sold.
7. Items may be picked up at the claim area by exhibiting a paid receipt or, if bidder has utilized express
checkout, by showing proof of identification. When an item has not been displayed, the purchaser will
receive a certificate for the promised gift. Items may be removed from the premises only by exhibiting a
paid receipt at the door at the time of departure.
8. The valuations placed on the items have been determined by volunteers who have researched the
sale of comparable items both at retail and charity sales. The value is not necessarily based on the
highest or lowest comparable and is based on factors that include the place, time and circumstances of
the comparable sale and the condition of the item sold. No representation is made as to the absolute
accuracy of the listed valuation, but every effort has been made to make the best determination
reasonably possible.
25
9. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one year from the
date of the auction; and unless otherwise specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual
convenience of the donor and buyer. To avoid disappointment please make all vacation reservations
well in advance. Security and cleaning deposits, when required by the donor, must be paid directly to
the donor and are not included in your bid.
10. All auction items must be removed from these premises no later than June 1st at the purchaser’s own
risk. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art cannot assume responsibility for items left after that time. Special
arrangement for pick-up or delivery of large items must be made at the time of payment.
12. The winning bidder will be acknowledged by the auctioneer. If the auctioneer determines that
an opening bid or any subsequent bid is not commensurate with the value of the item(s) offered, he
may reject the same and withdraw the item(s) from sale, and if having acknowledged an opening bid,
he decides that an advance thereafter is not of sufficient amount, he may reject the advance. The
auctioneer retains the right to add or delete any item. The auctioneer reserves the right to announce
conditions of sale at any time. In the event of any dispute, the auctioneer will have sole and final
discretion in these matters.
13. On the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, title to the item and/or service will pass to the highest bidder
who, thereupon, assumes full risk and responsibility therefore.
14. Use only the paddle number assigned to you for bidding purposes. Your number is your
identification.
DUTCH AUCTION
Some of the lots in the Live Auction will be sold as Dutch Auction lots. Dutch lots refer to those
consisting of identical items sold multiple times to different bidders. Unlike the individual bidding of
a regular auction lot, a Dutch Auction works by process of elimination. The auctioneer will suggest an
opening bid. Anyone willing to pay the opening bid price is asked to stand. (Everyone present may
stand). As the price for the lot rises, anyone willing to pay the new bid remains standing; others are
asked to take their seats. This continues until the number of people standing matches the number of
items available in the lot. Each bidder standing when the hammer falls receives one item, paying the
last (highest) bid named. Please listen carefully to the auctioneer’s description of the “seat” for Dutch
Auction items – some “seats” are for one person, and some “seats” are for a couple.
26
VALUATIONS
Upon check-out this evening you will receive a printed receipt for your tax purposes, listing the values
of all auction lots purchased. The valuations placed on the items have been determined by volunteers
who have researched the sale of comparable items both at retail and charity sales. The value is not
necessarily based on the highest or lowest comparable and is based on factors that include the place,
time and circumstances of the comparable sale and the condition of the item sold. No representation
is made as to the absolute accuracy of the listed valuation, but every effort has been made to make the
best determination reasonably possible.
DINNERS AND TASTINGS
1. All dinners and tastings must be completed by May 1, 2016.
2. A $75 surcharge will be applied to all shared pours.
3. Dates and number of attendees will be strictly adhered to. When purchasing dinners please note the
number of guests and specific date.

3. DOMINATING DOMINUS
Dominus is perhaps the Napa Valley’s most famous bordeaux-blend. In 1981, Christian Moueix,
owner of Chateau Petrus, discovered and purchased the historic Napanook Vineyard; since
then, year in and year out, the Moueix family has made some of California’s best red wines. The
1999 vintage was of exceptional quality, with a low yield; only 7000 cases were produced. The
blend was 75% cabernet sauvignon, 13% cabernet franc, 9% merlot and 3% petit verdot.

RAISE YOUR PADDLE
TO SUPPORT WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION
YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Tonight, you have the opportunity to provide vital support for many of the Brooks’s diverse
youth education programs. We ask that you raise your paddle in support of the outreach
programs below. By making even a small donation, you will directly assist the youth of our
community, as the Brooks strives to transform lives through the power of art.
ART BUILDS CREATIVITY (ABC), now in its thirty-fourth consecutive year, provides
creative, museum-based art education for fourth graders in local Title I elementary
schools. The multiple-visit program takes place both in the classroom and at the museum,
giving students—many of whom have no dedicated art instructor—a grounding in the
visual arts while providing teachers with training on how to incorporate art into their
standard academic curriculum.
COMMUNITY DAYS allow families and friends to experience the museum in a fun,
engaging environment. These free events feature art-making activities, events like
storytelling in the galleries, musical and dance performances, and family-oriented gallery
guides, all designed to engage families with current exhibitions.
Our FREE WACKY WEDNESDAY PROGRAM provides a creative outlet during the
summer for families, day camps, and child care centers with an open artworks studio,
gallery guides, and children’s international short films every Wednesday in June and July.
And all year round our free school tour program opens up the world of art to students
from all over the area, with docent-led tours focusing on the collection and special
exhibitions, studio art projects designed to instill creativity and create meaningful
connections to the collection, and curriculum guides so that teachers have the resources
to continue the learning experience once the children leave the museum.

38. HOUSE CONCERT BY LUCERO
Memphis’ own Lucero will play your living room or backyard BBQ!
None other than Rolling Stone magazine describes Lucero’s sound as one that ranges “from
aching Memphis soul to rowdy, old-fashioned barroom boogie rock.” Creating a catalog of 100plus songs across nine albums and multiple EPs has earned the band a fanbase that’s as diverse as
it is rabid: Ask 50 Lucero fans what their favorite song is and you’ll get 50 different answers. “Each
person makes Lucero their own thing,” says Ben Nichols, who has fronted the group since its
inception nearly two decades ago. “Everyone identifies with us for completely different reasons.
For one reason or another, Lucero becomes a very personal band.” But the one thing that seems
to unify Lucero fans of all kinds is the band’s all-or-nothing live show, which, if you’re the lucky
bidder, will take place at your house! Invite friends and family over to enjoy this experience of a
lifetime.
The 45-minute Lucero concert must be scheduled for the evening of Thursday September 3,
2015, rain or shine. The party must be held within a 30-minute drive from Midtown Memphis.
Winning bidder will also receive complimentary backline and soundman for the performance.
Winning bidder is not allowed to sell tickets to the concert or otherwise monetize this auction item.

47. SOMETHING BIG FROM THE BIG EASY BY ASHLEY LONGSHORE
From lines of glitter cocaine to Jesus surrounded by Louis Vuitton to Kate Moss dressed as
a nun, Ashley Longshore’s pop art is never shy of daring. Her art makes noise. Both Town &
Country Magazine and The New York Post have compared Ashley, a prolific artist at a pivotal
moment in her career to Andy Warhol, noting the similarity in their obsession with celebrities,
pop culture icons and current brands. Ashley’s vibrant personality and bold artwork has been
featured in major publications in the United States and abroad including Vogue, Forbes,
Elle,Town & Country, and French GQ among others. Her work, which has been described by
client, friend and collaborator, Blake Lively as “Elegant yet Rebellious,” is a testament to her
vivacious spirit and tonight’s featured piece measuring 60 x 48 is no exception. Dubbed by Elle
Magazine as “New Orleans’ Most Bad Ass Artist” her over the top personality has earned her
quite a reputation on social media as well. With the world-taking note, as well as key collectors
who include Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Lorraine Schwartz and Eli Manning, Ashley represents
a new wave in an industry that is undergoing its own digital revolution.

from each region of the same vintage. As further motivation for any potential buyer, we offer the

56. BLACK CASSIDY MEGA-TASTING! 2000 BORDEAUX
A seat at the Black & Cassidy Mega Tasting is one of the most coveted, and difficult-to-obtain
items annually at the Grand Auction. Every year the two Toms conspire to pull truly special bottles
out of their cellars, present them alongside a magnificent dinner prepared by one of the best
chefs the city has to offer, and host the event in an unforgettable setting. What’s not to like about
the Black-Cassidy tasting?
One of the country’s leading and most generous collectors, Mr. Black makes the trek from his
Nashville home every year, teaming up with Mr. Cassidy to offer a truly spectacular tasting for
the lucky 12 individuals who garner Dutch-auction seats at this Memphis Wine + Food Series
signature event.
In the past they’ve focused on lengthy verticals of legendary wines like Chateau La Mission HautBrion or extensive collections of Grand Cru burgundies from negociants like Domaine Rousseau
in Burgundy.
This year, the Toms are thinking horizontally; the lucky twelve bidders who garner Dutch-auction
seats for this signature event tonight will have the opportunity to be dazzled by the wines of
upwards of 20 different bordeaux, all representatives of the 2000 vintage, as their theme at a
special dinner to be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Erling Jensen The Restaurant
See what the fuss is about by bidding early and often for a seat at this very special tasting. The
two Toms will round up the usual suspects, so expect to find the First Growths and their peers at
this event, not to mention the surprises they always bring to this tasting. Usually, attendees throw
more goodies into the pot, so the sky’s probably the limit as regards how many 2000s will actually
appear on the table. And of course, since the Toms’ generosity well exceeds even their wine
knowledge, aperitif wines, fine champagne, brilliant whites and dessert wines will likely appear on
your Erling’s table as well!
And let’s not forget dinner, a four-course meal prepared by perhaps the finest chef in Memphis!
Bid early, bid often, and bid boldly, knowing it’s all for the Brooks! (Shared pours welcome, but
such bidders will be assessed a $75 surcharge tonight to cover additional food costs).
