Description
Max FX™ applies Pollard Banknote’s exclusive Scratch
FX® technology to the entire ticket face for extra
sparkle and shimmer.
Gloss FX™ gives instant tickets a slick, wet look by
contrasting high gloss and matte varnish to make glossy
graphics pop and glisten.
This innovation takes two-dimensional instant tickets
into the third dimension with a unique pop-up feature.
Why play alone when you can play with friends? With
multiple validation codes, each player can play their
own game, or even better, share the winnings.
With multi-stream folding technology, Pollard Banknote
can fold on the score, fan fold, or tri-fold on any style of
ticket for greeting cards, place cards, and novelty items.
The play area extends to the back of the ticket to
optimize the play value without having to move to a
larger ticket.
A four translucent color process added to the instant
ticket’s play area provides even more visual variety and
fun.
Add an element of surprise with multi-color symbols
printed under the scratch-off surface of the play area.
Pollard Banknote holds the patent for printing four
color process printing on top of cold foil to mimic the
look and shimmer of colored holographic foil.
Create value by adding a 3D effect that capitalizes on
the popularity of 3D movies, television shows, and
video games.
Enhance an instant ticket with printing on an embossed
foil layer.
The premium shimmer of Pollard Banknote’s patented
Scratch FX® produces the most sparkling and
captivating ticket on the market.
The perfect innovation for oversized tickets and
calendars—Scratch Tab™ combines pull tab technology
with scratch off game play for additional fun and
excitement. Scratch Tab™ games have multiple tabs and
plenty of additional scratch-off game play.
By merging multiple games into one themed booklet,

tickets extra shine and shimmer at retail.
The fusion of two layers of recyclable card stock, foil
stock, or both, creates Pollard Banknote’s patented
Fusion® Games. This category includes Pull Tab Plus®,
Double Play®, Action Pack®, PlayBook® and Scratch
Tab™.
Pull Tab tickets are given a ‘Plus’ by adding variable
imaged data and a bar code to the break-open tabs for
100% accountability.
Combining an instant ticket on one side with a breakopen game on the other gives players two distinct play
formats and twice the prize-winning chances.
Integrating the actual ticket into the pouch by
laminating two layers of stock into a pouch multiplies
the capacity for player fun.
Transforming the traditional cut-to-single pouch to a
perforated and connected pouch provides a convenient
book of pouches for retailers.
Pollard Banknote was the first to offer a scratch-off play
area on both sides of a ticket.
An alternate marking system for extended play games.
The player uses the edge of any coin to mark any
matched numbers.
HOLOGRAFX tickets feature striking holographic base
graphics. Whether introducing new games, or
distinguishing specialty games such as anniversary or
holiday editions, HOLOGRAFX tickets offer a dramatic
visual ticket option.
Pollard Banknote pioneered it – then patented it. Now
it leads the industry selling it. This innovation has
helped sell more tickets worldwide for Pollard Banknote
than any other Vendor (now off patent).
Make ticket art glow with bright neon colors, including
pink, yellow, orange, or green.
Pollard Banknote perfected the technology required to
produce razor-sharp die-cut games in any shape—from
dollar signs and roulette wheels to ladybugs and
flowerpots.
This stretched and shiny polyester film adds a futuristic
look to pouch design, allowing a group of games to
come together in one shiny, space-age package.
Pollard Banknote was the first to offer secure and
recyclable card stock, the result of a proprietary process

Scented Tickets
1990
Scented tickets inject fun into the instant game
category, freshening their appeal as a novelty item. A
distinct scent that’s released with a ticket’s scratch-off
portion adds to its uniqueness, quickly conveying the
game’s theme.
Patterned Varnish
1990
Varnish is a security layer applied to all tickets, but
Pollard Banknote also add a pattern to the surrounding
graphic areas to give tickets a decadent look and
texture.
Embossing
1990
The paper stock is stamped to create raised areas and
images, adding value, quality, and richness to a ticket.
Varied-Shape Play Area
1988
Pollard Banknote pioneered the use of non-rectangular
play area shapes to pyramids, circles and an endless
variety of shapes, adding variety to the look of the
ticket.
Pouched Tickets*
1988
With pouches, lotteries can put together a group of
tickets into a perfect package that promotes higher
price points and high quality graphics.
Instant Ticket with Football
1988
By adding a weekly pool play area to the instant ticket,
Pool Play Area
players can follow to the Canadian Football League
game schedule.
VIRN Box in Play Area*
1986
Pollard Banknote was the first to place the Void if
Removed Number (VIRN) box in the scratch-off play
area.
Cut-to-Single Tickets
1986
Pollard Banknote has been an industry leader in
providing lotteries with cut-to-single tickets. Games are
printed as a sheet, inspected, and then jogged, cut, and
banded. The banded tickets then go through a standard
packaging and cartoning process. Many European
Lotteries choose this manufacturing method.
An asterisk (*) denotes a Pollard Banknote innovation that has had a significant impact on the evolution

Pollard Banknote’s Vision for the Future:
4

Traditional lottery games have enduring appeal and will continue to meet the same underlying
needs of consumers. Since lotteries began, the desire for entertainment, diversion, distraction,
and participation in a game of chance hasn’t changed in fundamental ways, and this need will
remain into the future.

There is an ever-increasing need for revenue for good causes supported by lotteries worldwide.
This reality underscores the necessity for innovation to keep pace with changes in the
marketplace.

Consumption patterns are evolving. The marketing, distribution, and format of games will also
evolve to better adapt to changing consumer behaviour. Responding to consumer demand and
understanding those rapidly evolving patterns of consumption will be key to each lottery’s
success.

The lottery ecosystem is made up of a network of interactions across channels: retail and online
interactive channels, and the ‘space between’ these channels. Retail and interactive strategies
are critical components of a cohesive whole, and can be viewed as existing on a continuum
where interactive channels strengthens the retail component.

Retail will remain a vital channel of distribution, and we will continue to develop new retail
initiatives that provide added value to lottery retail networks. The physical “packaging” of our
products will have to stand out against the backdrop of other fast moving consumer goods.

Lotteries will expand their presence in areas where there is more intense competition, such as
the interactive and social spaces. We will have to gain a better understanding of players, to be
able to offer relevant, customized products made possible through the acquisition of CRM data
as play becomes less anonymous.

We’ll be able to improve game content delivery for greater convenience to satisfy the
‘consumer on demand’ culture, provide added value, and offer more sophisticated retention
strategies.

Player acquisition will look very different in the future—reaching new markets is becoming
increasingly more difficult. By better understanding what triggers that first purchase, and
discovering what new players like and dislike, we’ll be more successful at building effective
strategies and tactics that expand our player base and appeal to those elusive emerging
markets.
