A four translucent color process added to the instant ticket’s play area provides even more visual variety and fun. Add an element of surprise with multi-color symbols printed under the scratch-off surface of the play area. A distinct scent that’s released with a ticket’s scratch-off portion adds to its uniqueness, quickly conveying the game’s theme. Patterned Varnish 1990 Varnish is a security layer applied to all tickets, but Pollard Banknote also add a pattern to the surrounding graphic areas to give tickets a decadent look and texture. Embossing 1990 The paper stock is stamped to create raised areas and images, adding value, quality, and richness to a ticket. Varied-Shape Play Area 1988 Pollard Banknote pioneered the use of non-rectangular play area shapes to pyramids, circles and an endless variety of shapes, adding variety to the look of the ticket. Pouched Tickets* 1988 With pouches, lotteries can put together a group of tickets into a perfect package that promotes higher price points and high quality graphics. Pollard Banknote’s Vision for the Future: 4 Traditional lottery games have enduring appeal and will continue to meet the same underlying needs of consumers. Since lotteries began, the desire for entertainment, diversion, distraction, and participation in a game of chance hasn’t changed in fundamental ways, and this need will remain into the future. There is an ever-increasing need for revenue for good causes supported by lotteries worldwide. This reality underscores the necessity for innovation to keep pace with changes in the marketplace. Consumption patterns are evolving. The marketing, distribution, and format of games will also evolve to better adapt to changing consumer behaviour. Responding to consumer demand and understanding those rapidly evolving patterns of consumption will be key to each lottery’s success. The lottery ecosystem is made up of a network of interactions across channels: retail and online interactive channels, and the ‘space between’ these channels. Retail and interactive strategies are critical components of a cohesive whole, and can be viewed as existing on a continuum where interactive channels strengthens the retail component. Retail will remain a vital channel of distribution, and we will continue to develop new retail initiatives that provide added value to lottery retail networks. The physical “packaging” of our products will have to stand out against the backdrop of other fast moving consumer goods. Lotteries will expand their presence in areas where there is more intense competition, such as the interactive and social spaces. We will have to gain a better understanding of players, to be able to offer relevant, customized products made possible through the acquisition of CRM data as play becomes less anonymous. We’ll be able to improve game content delivery for greater convenience to satisfy the ‘consumer on demand’ culture, provide added value, and offer more sophisticated retention strategies. Player acquisition will look very different in the future—reaching new markets is becoming increasingly more difficult. By better understanding what triggers that first purchase, and discovering what new players like and dislike, we’ll be more successful at building effective strategies and tactics that expand our player base and appeal to those elusive emerging markets.
