First Annual Golf Outing a Huge Success
On September 22, 2009, Just Animals
held our first annual golf outing at the
Morris Country Club. We started with
a wonderful buffet breakfast and, after
a shotgun start, played an 18 hole 4
person scramble. After golf, we enjoyed a delicious beef and chicken fajita
bar and a fabulous raffle and auction.
We had 50 golfers and 75 people at the
lunch. Every golfer received a dozen
golf balls and a welcome bag with other
gifts. Each person that attended went
home with at least one prize from the
raffle table. A wonderful time was had
by all. We would like to thank Chessie
Lane Animal Hospital, Ltd. and H.R.
Imaging Partners, Inc. for sponsoring
our beverage cart for the day. In addition, we would like to acknowledge the

FYI:
Winter Dangers to Your Pet
Crisis Affects Pets,
Too
It is a fact that what humans are experiencing affects their pets. Studies
have shown that a human’s stress can
also raise the stress level in their dogs.
Some Veterinarians report an increase
in Gastroenteritis in dogs brought in by
their owners who are stressed by the
economy. A growing number of animals are being turned in to shelters or
left abandoned due to the financial
woes of their owners. Some owners
may have had to leave their homes and
move to apartments that don’t allow
pets, some owners may have lost their
jobs and they can no longer care for
their pets properly. It is devastating for
someone to say they can no longer keep
their beloved companion. We have
seen many of these cases, and it is
heartbreaking. If you are able, consider adopting one of the wonderful
dogs or cats we have at the shelter and
if you cannot do it at this time, please
consider a tax-deductible contribution
to help us care for these beautiful animals while they stay with us until their
forever family adopts them.
Cleaning Supplies
Needed!
As the harsh winter weather sets
in, it is important that you think
about keeping your pet safe from
the dangers that the season can
present. Here are just a few tips
to help ensure your pet’s safety:
Dogs need outdoor exercise, but
take care not to leave them out
for long periods of time in extremely cold weather. Be mindful of frozen bodies of water, as a
pet could fall through thin ice
and drown. Antifreeze has a
sweet taste that pets are attracted to, so be sure to store all
antifreeze out of reach and clean
up any spills immediately. Deicing chemicals, including salt,
can be irritating to pet’s feet, so
try to avoid it, and if your pet is
exposed to it, wipe their feet with
a damp towel after coming indoors. Warm automobile engines
can attract small animals, who
may crawl up into them seeking
warmth, so, before starting your
car, be sure there are none hiding. Also, as you prepare for the
Holiday Season, some things to
keep in mind: Poinsettias, Mistletoe, Holly and Ivy can be potentially harmful to your pet if
eaten. A Christmas tree can be
knocked over by an exuberant
dog or a climbing cat, and can
cause a fire. Also, the strings of
lights, garland and tinsel are a
danger if your pet gets tangled
up in them. Adding chemicals to
the tree water can be dangerous
if your pet drinks from it. Resist
the temptation to feed your pet
some of the holiday turkey or
ham, which may be too rich for
their digestive systems. And,
don’t give them the bones from
the turkey, which can splinter
and cause serious injury and
even death. Chocolate can be
toxic to pets, especially dark
chocolate. Note from Editor: If
you too have a Wrecking Ball
Retriever (mine could have
taught Marley a few tricks he
didn’t know!), or other innovative
stinker, watch out for sponges,
oven mitts and hot pads, as these
apparently can be tasty at times
and, if eaten, can potentially
cause a dangerous blockage Remember, these are just a few of
the dangers to your pet that can
occur at this time of year.
Be safe and have a very Happy
Howliday Season!

About Us
Just Animals is a non-profit animal shelter run by a group of
very dedicated volunteers. All of
our funding comes from donations and fund raisers. Each
year Just Animals Shelter takes
in hundreds of cats and dogs
that come in as strays off the
street, from animal controls and
owners that surrender them.
Many of these animals have been
neglected, abused and abandoned. Our goal is to provide the
best medical care to mend their
broken bodies, patience and love
to rebuild their spirits, and when
they are ready, a safe new home
with someone who will love and
care for them for the rest of their
lives. Before going to their new
home, all pets are vet checked,
spayed/neutered, micro-chipped,
vaccinated, flea treated and dewormed. Cats are tested for feline leukemia/FIV, dogs are
tested for heartworm and started
on preventative. Your tax deductible donations are terribly
needed and greatly appreciated.
And, if you have the time, we
always need and welcome new
volunteers.

New Homes!
Buffy: Buffy is a sweet older
Cocker Spaniel, who is simply looking for someone to love. Perhaps
you are the perfect person to give
Buffy a loving place to call home.
McCoy: This is a great little Jack
Russell Terrier mix who thinks he’s a
big dog. Mac is a little apprehensive
with children, so would be better with
adults only.
Candi: What a sweet baby girl!
Candi is about 4 months old and
looks like a black Golden Retriever
and has every trait of the breed too!
She is very smart, tilts her head in
understanding and talks back.
Miller: A very nice young man,
Miller is a Black Lab and Shepherd
mix with a handsome black wavy
coat. He listens well and is eager to
please. He is looking for someone
who wants to work with him so he
can show you how smart he is.
Captain Morgan: A young Beagle
and Jack Russell Terrier mix, he is
a great little dog who came into the
shelter when his owner was moving
and could not take him. He gets
along well with all of the other little
dogs and enjoys playing with them.
A little shy at first, he warms up to
you quickly.

young man is! He’s a small young
male Schnauzer with a beautiful
silver coat and cute face. He is well
mannered and gets along well with
everybody.
Cinder: What a sweetie! Cinder is
a 5-7 year old Spaniel mix and she

was recently returned to us for being much too exuberant. He is a
bundle of teenage angst. He needs
a fenced in yard and someone to

a home for the holidays. Petey is a
young lemon colored Beagle and gets
along well with everyone. He would

Some of Our Cats Ready for Loving
New Homes!
Addison: A sweet hearted Short
Hair Brown Tabby boy who loves to
play! He has catnip mousing skills
like you wouldn’t believe. Addison
came to us in a deplorable condition
when the police discovered two men
trying to abandon over a dozen kittens in a vacant field. He has so
much love to give.
Bacardi, Jr: A Short Hair Brown
Tabby boy who would prefer a quiet
home with adults and older children,
as he hides when activities are loud
and busy.
Callie: Callie is a pretty Calico and
Short Hair mix who came to us with
her son Happy when their elderly
owner could no longer care for them.
Callie is a roly poly girl who would
love to have a lap to lay on. She
misses having a real home.
Cartman: A Short Hair mix who is
a very striking looking boy. He is a
mitted Tabby, but he is shades of
black, chocolate and sandy brown
and lacks stripes. His colors just
blend into one another. Cartman
loves to play, or should we say, he
lives to play?! He will entertain you
with his funny antics if you take him
home.
Charlie: A Short Hair Brown Tabby
mix, Charlie is adorably sweet! He
loves attention and being petted. He
has a very pretty musical meow—he

volunteers as an abandoned stray
behind a large grocery store. He is
such a friendly, lovable little cutie.
Charlie would bring such cheer to
your home!

Tabby mix, she is a little gal with a

playful and affectionate. She loves to
be hugged and even hugs back!
Felicia: A beautiful and affectionate
Short Hair Tortoiseshell mix girl who
is declawed and was picked up as a
stray, so she could not even defend
herself. She misses having a home
and person to love.
Gordon: What a funny and loving
Short Hair Orange and White mix
boy! He is super friendly and loves to
snuggle and have his belly rebbed.
Gordon also loves to talk and be
talked to. He is a happy guy and
loves everyone he meets. He would
be a wonderful family member.
Jacob: A real sweetheart, this Orange and White mix Short Hair boy
was hiding in the garage of one of our

is a very gentle soul who loves to be
held. Do you think you could share
your heart and home with Jacob?

and handraised by one of our volunteers. Josephine is a snuggle bunny
who loves to cuddle in bed!
Luna: Luna is a British Shorthair
Tabby mix and she is super cute.
She has huge round yellow-green
eyes and is just gorgeous. She was
an abandoned stray rescued by a
Good Samaritan just outside of town.
She loves to be petted and snuggled.
Luna is a doll!
Nancy: A total diva! She is convinced that the world revolves
around her and her desires! She
looks to be a Maine Coon, Tortoiseshell mix and has lots of beautiful
coat. If you’re looking for an adorable diva, come see Nancy.
Ringo: Ringo is a hero. He led two
cats and a kitten to the home of a
volunteer when they lost their home.
He is a Short Hair Black & White
mix and has very unusual rings
around his tail. He gets along great
with other cats and has had experience with dogs. He is very smart and
inquisitive and likes to “talk.” Won’t
you be Ringo’s hero and give him a
loving new home?!

Consider a Foster
Please join Just Animals and be a foster
family this holiday season. We hope to
find foster families for December 23
through January 2. It would make a
sweet dog’s life special for a little while.
Also, if you are considering an adoption,
it’s a great time to see if the dog is a good
match.
