Dream Recipient Making A Dream Come
The Sunshine Reporter is a monthly newsletter highlighting the children, donors, volunteers and work of the Sunshine
Foundation. Sunshine Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charity, is dedicated to answering the dreams of children who are
chronically ill, physically challenged or have been abused and proudly uses 83% of its donations received for children’s
programs. This publication is produced, assembled and distributed by staff and volunteers to reduce costs.
Hope Creative School Trike-A-Thon
Sunshine Foundation thanks the
wonderful students at the Hope
Creative School in Winter Haven, FL.
Hope Creative School Director, Jennifer Greubel said, “We are very proud of our preschoolers and excited to tell
you that we have raised over $1000.00. The children had a great time doing this with the understanding that they
were helping other children.” Pictured below are some of the kind preschoolers making dreams come true!

Making A Dream Come
Mekinley recently went on the trip
of a lifetime to Sunshine
Foundation’s Dream Village and the
Orlando theme parks!
Mekinley’s mom also received a
dream from Sunshine Foundation
when she was a child. They wanted
to help give the experience to others
so Mekinley and her family will be
holding a fundraiser to answer
Dylan’s dream! Dylan is 8 years
old and has cerebral palsy.
Mekinly met Dylan to tell him all
about the Dream Village and her
dream come true! The two have
become great friends!

All Volunteer Delaware County Chapter members surprised
5 year old Sara with the exciting news she will be visiting
the Orlando theme parks! This wonderful all volunteer
chapter raised funds towards Sara’s dream at the Annual
Sunshine Run! Sara is diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis
and a seizure disorder.
High Vista Traveling Golfers

over $1,300 at Sunshine
Foundation’s Dream
Village! This generous
group holds a golf
tournament and
banquet every year,
where a silent auction is
held to send kids to
Sunshine Foundation’s
Dream Village! Thank
you High Vista Golfers
for answering dreams!
Sunshine Foundation Volunteer, Sylvia Sites, was on
hand to present a dream come true packet to Jacob in
West Virginia! The packet included everything the
family will need for their trip including theme park
tickets and travel information! Jacob is 10 years old
and has profound hearing loss.

From A 1995 Dream Recipient... “Hi Mr. & Mrs. Sample,
It’s been a really long time since you last saw me, so I am not sure
if you remember me---I went to the Sunshine Ball as one of the wish
kids in 1994 (age 16), had my wish sponsored by Ross and Penny
Fischer/Miami Airlines in 1995 (age 17) and went on a Dream Lift
when I was 21. ALL that you did for me was absolutely amazing and
I wanted to let you know that even now at age 33, I still think of the
amazing wish that you gave to me.
We only knew I had GI dysmotility back then. I was later diagnosed as having a progressive neuromuscular disease called mitochondrial disease. Despite being ill, I graduated from college with my nursing
degree, worked at CHOP as a nursing consultant for a
program for teens and young adults with special healthcare needs. Met my sweetheart in college,
whom I am still with 12 years later and have a beautiful 2 year old daughter.
Unfortunately, my disease progressed rapidly around age 27. I have been 100 percent bed bound for
the past 2 years. But, I think given how much of the outside world I am able to experience now, it makes
me even more incredibly grateful to you and to all of the other amazing people, who helped make my
wish come true when I was younger. Those memories have sustained me more than I can say.
I attached a photo of me with Dave and my daughter. My little girl, whom I have affectionately
(and coincidentally) called my sunshine girl since before she was born because she brings me so
much light and joy. Her name is Julianna Hope.” With Appreciation,
Malisa

able to use and enjoy for a
long time." Says Gaites.
