Surrealism… Name
Surrealism… Name: …is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for its visual artworks, writing, and film. Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur.1 “Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings” -Salvador Dalí (1904 –1989) “Words make love with one another.” -André Breton (1896 –1966) “I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.” -Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) By the end of this unit I will be able to… 1. Define all vocabulary words. 2. Keep a dream journal, and transcribe at least two dreams you’ve had. 3. Create several sketches that combine elements of dreams and reality. 4. Create a work of surrealist art using oil pastels or mixed media. Cant do much without a lot of help from the teacher. 2= I can do some of this myself, but I need help from the teacher to get all of it. 3= I got it! Not everything, but most of this I understand and I can do. 4= I own it! Move aside teacher, I can teach this next year to your class. I completely get this stuff. What is an action plan? If you think you need to keep on working with this material, what are you going to do to improve your grade? Those steps are your action plan.
