Kristy Titus Ambassador To The Outdoors
Kristy Titus grew up elk hunting with her father and
it is still her favorite thing to do. “There is no greater
experience than hunting with my Dad,” says Kristy.
“And that can be anywhere, hunting anything.”
A passionate outdoorswoman, Kristy is the host of the
NRA News “I Am Forever” original series and Tips &
Tactics, she serves as an ambassador for The Rocky
Mountain Elk Foundation as a featured member of
the Team Elk television show airing on the Outdoor
Channel, Cabela’s, Buck Knives, Swarovski Optik,
Montana Silversmiths and Wilderness Athlete.
“The foundation of my business is conservation,” Kristy
says. “As for my TV work -- it wasn’t something I sought.
I found myself in the right place at the right time.”
As a nutritionist and as an NRA Basic Pistol and
“Refuse To Be A Victim” certified instructor, Kristy enjoys
inspiring others to stay fit and healthy and to enjoy the

outdoors. The Oregon native says her favorite activity
is North American big game hunting, but she is an avid
hunter year-round and all over the world.
Kristy is an active volunteer in the Wounded Warrior
Outdoors program. She takes active duty service
men and women, who are currently being treated
in a hospital, outdoors as part of their rehabilitation.
“Disability is as much a mindset as it is a physical
limitation,” she says. “When you get these men and
women out into the woods where there are no ramps,
no wheelchairs, it gives them the ability to be open to
doing anything.”
Kristy uses PayneWest for both her business
and personal insurance and says she values the
communication and personal service she receives.

“We want people to know that we are a local company,”
says Lewis, TIG’s vice president. “We are moving into
manufacturing, and will be hiring quality employees over
the next six months.” He adds that the City of Prineville has
been supportive of TIG, using the company for aeration and
algae control systems.

Practice Wildfire Safety
As a pipeline mechanic, Lewis started TIG when he
discovered that a new type of pipe wrap, a corrosion control
tape product may have many other applications than just
for corrosion control on steel pipe. “We found it would bind
to concrete and to polyethylene, PVC truck tarps without a
primer,” Lewis explains. TIG began selling tape into specialty
markets world-wide.
•
Make sure emergency vehicles can get to your
home.
•
Mark driveways with your name and address.
•
Post fire emergency phone numbers.
•
Build an emergency kit and make a family
communications plan.
•
Plan ahead with several escape routes from your
home . . . by car and by foot.
Today, TIG specializes in corrosion control for steel pipe and
concrete structures that are watertight, including wastewater
treatment plants and large diameter pipelines.
Protect your home
•
Use fire resistant or non-combustible building
materials for the roof and exterior of your home.
TIG eventually expanded the business to include other
products for the wastewater industry including aeration and
water treatment equipment.
•
Plant fire-resistant shrubs and trees.
•
Clear all flammable vegetation and hanging dead
tree limbs at least 30 feet from your home.
•
Keep roof and gutters clean.
•
Stack firewood at least 100 feet from your home.
•
Identify and maintain an adequate outside water
source such as a small pond, cistern, well or
hydrant.
In 2008 TIG took on a new non-metallic fiberglass road
service Manhole frame & Cover. These covers are a fraction
of the weight, and much stronger than cast iron covers,
and do not corrode. TIG developed a new lock system
for composite covers that are made right here in Central
Oregon, and are now specified across the country and the
world. TIG is the largest distributor for composite frames and
covers in the USA.
“We have been with PayneWest for three years and it’s the
best insurance company we have ever had,” says Jeane’e.
“Our agents Pat Boyle and Sharon Davidson check in with
us regularly to make sure we have everything we need.”
Contact your local fire department for more information
about fire protection. You may also visit
www.fireswise.org to learn additional steps you can
take to defend your property against wildfires.
As always, your local PayneWest team
welcomes the opportunity to serve you.

Wildland fire season is underway. Are you prepared? Here are some tips to get you started.
Local Entrepreneurs Grow Their Business
Founded in 1999 by Lewis and Jeane’e Titus, TIG is
a collection of companies dedicated to solving clients’
problems with sewer, storm water and industrial wastewater.
About 90 percent of TIG’s clients are municipalities, and 10
percent are industrial companies.

Preperation Reduces Wildfire Risk!
Jeane’e and Lewis Titus continue to expand their Prineville-based business, which provides waste water solutions.
As both a woman-owned business and a HUB Zone
business (a designation by the Small Business
Administration for small companies that operate in
“historically underutilized business zones”), Prineville’s Titus
Industrial Group is poised for growth.
