President's Message
l\rarch 2011
Dear [/lembers,
Welcome to 2011. l'm surethatyou have heard the statement, "Hittheground
running." Th,s very accurately describes your society's activities for Spring 201'1.
By the time that you read this you will already have been enjoying the NBC TV second
season of "Who Do You Think You Are?" This program centers on eight stars as they
search for their ancestors. ln the process, many thousands of persons become
interested in beginning their own family search.
ln order to take advanlage of this heightened degree of interest, the society will offer a
super program aimed at attracting new members, as well as serving the current
membership, that will inc ude:
.
.
A free beginners clinic on Saturday March
51h
Three intermediate clinics on Saturdays n April centering on the topics of:
'Using Research Logs" and 'Organizing Your Research"
"More Than Just a Census Record"
"Using Military Records and Military Pensron Records"
o
o
o
Ihere will be a $10 charge for materials for these three clinics.
Our volunteers are receiving special training to assist new folks in getting started and we
will be offering specific hours for personal assistance when the clinics are completed.
We ran three ads in the Times-Georgian at lhe end of February in order to let the
community know of this great opportunity
And, if that is not enough "hitting the ground running " our Secretary, Sarah Boyd is
busy workrng with web developers in the design of a new and updated web site.
