Acting Classes Theater Games, Improvisation and Acting Classes start Jan. 14th Tuesdays 4:30-5:30 Kahilu Theatre, Waimea Beth Dunnington is a professional actor/singer/director who moved to the Big Island from NY in 2007. Beth directed the recent “Broadway in Hawaii” concert at the Kahilu Theatre, starring Big Island teens. With director Angel Prince, she wrote and co-starred in "Que Suenes Con Las Angelitas," a theater/dance performance piece that sold out the Kahilu. Beth is the acting teacher for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, and directed their July “Big Island Broadway” concert at Gates. As an actor, she performed in the February production of “The Vagina Monologues” at the Kahilu. She will be directing “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in January. She is joined by longtime collaborator mandolin/guitarist Tom Rozum. Tom’s crisp musicianship and comic banter add verve and excitement to every Laurie Lewis performance. Friday January 31 Makana 10.30am SCHOOL SHOW Makana is an internationally acclaimed guitarist, singer, and composer who is widely known for lending his musical talent for social change. Makana’s unique blend of Hawaiian, folk and rock influences and the passion and energy of his performance engages his audience like few entertainers on the scene. His guitar playing has been featured on three Grammy-nominated albums, including the soundtrack of the Academy-Award winning film “The Descendants.” He has performed worldwide in venues ranging from Tianjin Opera House to Bumbershoot in Seattle to WOMAD in England to The White House. Makana’s new album “RIPE” was released in fall 2013 to great acclaim. Makana has shared the stage with Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson, Sting, Carlos Santana and Elvis Costello. Artistic Director, Angel Prince and Cuillandre will present the Big Island in its most colorful and diverse glory, showcasing our ten microclimates through dance, original music, time-lapse film and photography. The Climate Show will set the cast of almost 100 dancers ages 5 to adult in various thematic scenes created to transport audiences on an inspiring and beautiful tour of the island. Using trapeze, hip hop, and contemporary dance, the performers will entertain and educate us using the familiar to show a new perspective of our home on the big island.
