The Manetta Family With help from her mom Shawna, a breast cancer survivor, Emma Manetta has hosted multiple community events and fundraisers, raising over $12,000 selling bracelets and t-shirts, collecting change and selling fabric squares that were sewn together to create an honor quilt which hangs on the wall directly across from the Breast Center. She was featured recently on CBS2 News where she shared her inspiring journey with reporter Michele Gile. “I’ve been able to meet new people through the creation of this quilt and I’ve also been able to thank everyone who has supported me and my family, and also the doctors who kept my mom alive.” – Emma Manetta The Ferragamo Family Jodi Ferragamo has worked tirelessly hosting the Fight With Grace luncheon each spring for the past nine years, raising funds for the Breast Center. Supported by a host of volunteers, including her husband, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo, Jodi has raised over $300,000. The Ferragamo Foundation was recently recognized for their generosity with the dedication of signage in the Breast Center. The majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease and while it occurs more often in women who are over the age of 50, younger women are at risk too. Medical experts agree that early detection is the key to combating this disease. Currently, there is no way to prevent breast cancer. However, when detected early and treated expertly, there is a greater than 95 percent survival rate. Each week, the hospital offers exercise and dance classes as well as support groups allowing social interaction and physical activity. These programs provide patients with a path for fighting disease and depression. Richard has seen first-hand the impact these classes have on his friends who participate. “These exercise classes are a unique offering for people battling these diseases and really make a difference in their lives every week. Beyond the obvious there is a tremendous benefit to care givers and participants in knowing they are not alone. We exchange information and encouragement. Parkinson’s is a rough road. The Foundation’s commitment is reflected in an outstanding instructor and a continually improving, easy access facility.” We thank Richard for his positive energy and generous support of these wonderful programs for the community. Parkinson’s disease is a slowly progressive, neurological condition that affects over one million people in the United States.
