From Mayor McNabb…
Welcome Spring!!! The 64th annual Dogwood Festival was a huge success.
Congratulations to Ralph and Vicki Franklin as Grand Marshalls for this year’s
parade. Ralph & Vicki have been very active participants in the lake-area
community both having served and currently serve on several boards and
committees. I would also like to congratulate the Dogwood Royalty: Little Mister
Dogwood – Ezra Cooper; Little Miss – Isla Grave; Junior Miss – Lily Sales; Teen
Miss – Brooke Farris; and Miss Dogwood – Teddi Moorman. Thank you to the
Camdenton Police, Fire and Public Works employees as they play an important part
in preparing for the event and carrying it out safely. Thank you to the Camdenton
Area Chamber and all the volunteers that make this event a success.
As spring moves forward the Camdenton Aquatic Facility will open May 24th. Our
new pool manager, Chris Beauchamp, is on board and lots of exciting things are in
the works for the pool season. We are planning our 1st of three teen nights (ages 1319) at the pool on June 6th from 6:00-8:00 PM. Mark your calendar for our first
“Dive In” movie night throughout the season. The first one is scheduled for
Saturday, June 21st @ 9:00 PM. The movies will be family friendly and “Finding
Nemo” is up first. Please like the Camdenton Aquatic Facility on Facebook to keep
up on the latest happenings.
Camdenton will also be holding its 4th Annual City-wide garage sale June 6 & 7 and
the residential spring clean up will begin June 9th. Look for more information on
these upcoming events in this newsletter, on the City website
(www.camdentoncity.com) or “like” us on Facebook – “City of Camdenton”
Camdenton is presently in its 4th quarter of the fiscal year 2013-2014 Budget.
During this budget year the City has made waterline improvements on Clint Avenue
and will begin the street overlay of Clint Avenue in the near future. We are
currently resurfacing the taxiway at the Airport. The contractor plans to have this
project finished by Memorial Day. Three more holes were also added to the Disc
Golf Course which brings the total to 13. We are currently working on next year’s
fiscal year budget which begins July 1, 2014.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free
to contact me through City Hall.

4TH ANNUAL CITY WIDE GARAGE SALE
JUNE 6-7, 2014
All swimming pools, in-ground or above-ground, and
exterior spas and hot tubs that are capable of containing
twenty-four (24) or more inches of water can only be
installed in Camdenton after obtaining a “Swimming Pool
Permit.”
It’s that time again, time for the 4th Annual City Wide Garage
Sale. It isn’t too late to get your location noted on the map.
Deadline is June 1, 2014. Maps will be available at City Hall,
Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce, R J’s Restaurant,
Central Bank and First National Bank. The map is also
available on the city’s website at: www.camdentoncity.com
and also on our Facebook page.
The City of Camdenton has adopted “Appendix G” of the
2012 International Residential Code which deals with the
safe installation of pools, spas and hot tubs. All of the
above are required to be surrounded by a 48-inch barrier
(fence) with a self-closing, self-latching gate. If the pool is
an above-ground type where the top of the pool edge is 48
inches or higher above grade then only the access to the
pool (steps or ladder) will need to be surrounded by a
barrier with a gate.
The City will be waiving the Garage Sale Permit requirement
for those days only. You must still comply with signage
requirements as stated below:
It is illegal, per Section 400.220 of the City of
Camdenton Municipal Code, to place Garage Sale Signs on any
City or State property. This includes all utility poles, stop signs,
street signs, stop lights, any City or State right-of-way
including the City square. Please refrain from posting illegal
signs.
If your pool is in your back yard and is fenced in with a
barrier that meets the height requirements and a wall of
your dwelling is part of this barrier with a door exiting
into the fenced area, then the door must be equipped with
an alarm device.
All pools, spas and hot tubs that require electrical
connections must be wired correctly per Chapter 42 of
the 2012 International Residential Code and Article 680
of the 2011 National Electric Code.
We are very excited about this event and the amount of
interest and participation we have seen already. This is a
great way to pass on those “previously loved items” in
addition to cleaning up the residential areas of our town (see
Spring Residential Clean-Up article page 4).
2
Most of the inflatable above-ground pools that can be
purchased locally will hold more than 24 inches of water
and will require a permit and compliance with all safety
codes.
Let’s have a safe summer.
April showers bring May flowers, growing grass and weeds!
Danger in Unattended
Vehicles
Spring rains bring life back to our flowers, grass and weeds! Community Service Officer (CSO)
Chasity Ivey reminds us that a house with an overgrown yard is an eyesore in any neighborhood –
not to mention a violation of City Ordinance. Vacant lots, yards, sidewalks and alleys overgrown
with tall weeds are not only unsightly, but they can harbor rodents and reptiles and can become a
fire hazard – this is a nuisance.
This is not only an issue in the residential neighborhoods, but also impacts our business
community. While businesses routinely dedicate time and effort to the store layouts for customer
appeal, we would like to remind our business owners that the exterior is just as important.
A customer may choose to shop elsewhere if a business has overgrown weeds in front of their
business.
CSO Ivey assists with nuisance and property maintenance violations in an attempt to beautify our
community and keep it attractive for locals, as well as those visiting.
CSO Ivey states that the primary problem in the spring and summer is grass and weeds. City
Ordinance 235.010 states grass, weeds and other vegetation growing to a height in excess of
twelve (12) inches within the City limits is a nuisance violation. Please be mindful of this as you
begin planting flowers and gardens each spring, as they will require attention throughout the
growing season. We hope citizens and business owners will comply voluntarily. If a violation is
observed the property owner or occupant will be notified to correct the problem.
CSO Ivey recommends that if you are going to be out of town for an extended period of time, you
need to make arrangements to have someone take care of your property.
You can help keep Camdenton beautiful by alerting CSO Ivey about nuisance and property
maintenance violations by calling 346-3604 ext. 264, Monday – Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm.
For more information of the City Ordinances, please visit http://www.camdentoncity.com/ then
by clicking on Municipal Ordinances. To read the ordinance on Property Maintenance go to
Chapter 225 and for Nuisances go to Chapter 235.
The Camdenton Police Department
receives numerous complaints of
children and pets being left in
vehicles unattended.
As the summer months approach,
so does rising temperatures. Even
with a window slightly opened on
a sunny summer day, the
temperature inside a vehicle can
reach potentially deadly levels
within minutes! A child’s core body
temperature can increase three to
five times as fast as adults if they
are left inside a vehicle. This could
cause permanent injury or even
death. If you notice a child left
unattended in a car, please
CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY!
The heat inside a vehicle can have
the same effect on pets. If you
notice a pet left unattended in a
vehicle please call 573-346-3604 or
573-346-2243 IMMEDIATELY!
May is MOTORCYLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH
Chief Wright encourages drivers to safely "share the road" with motorcyclists. Motorcyclists have all the same rights and privileges as any
motor vehicle driver on the roadway. Motorists need to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe.
In 2011, about twenty-five percent of all passenger vehicle crashes ended up in injury or death, but almost eighty percent of all motorcycle
crashes ended up in injury or death. The majority of motorcycle crashes are generally caused when other drivers simply do not see the
motorcyclist. Chief Wright offers these safety tips to motorcyclists:




RIDE DEFENSIVELY
BE VISIBLE – Apply reflective materials to your clothing and your motorcycle.
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET – IT IS A MISSOURI STATE LAW that riders wear a D.O.T. approved helmet!
KEEP YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON AT ALL TIMES – Even using your high beams during the day to increase your visibility.
ALWAYS LOOK TWICE to make sure there isn’t a motorcycle or another vehicle in your blind spot! This could SAVE A LIFE!

Help Keep Our Parks Nice
Report Vandalism & Property Damage
MAYOR JOHN MCNABB
Police need your help to report vandalism and property damage at the Camdenton City Park as this type
of intentional damage not only is a waste of tax dollars but can make some services unavailable to
citizens who use the park areas.
Ward I
Gerry Rector
Dan Hagedorn
On April 2, 2014, Camdenton Police responded to the Camdenton City Park to investigate property
damage to restrooms located in the picnic area. The restrooms had not opened for the season as yet;
when Public Works turned the water on the establish service recently, they found several water leaks in
the underground pipes and have been working to repair them. Sometime overnight, someone tore the
bars and anchors loose that were securing the door then punched holes in the concrete walls and doors
with the metal bar. Now, this too will have to be repaired.

Sadly, this type of call is not that uncommon in our City Park. The City invested considerable money
resurfacing the pool area last fall to get it in good shape for the upcoming summer season. When they
began checking all the equipment in early April in preparation to open in May, Public Works found
damage to the equipment near the blue slide which will have to be repaired before it can open. We are
hoping this can be accomplished and does not delay the opening for the season. There have been
several other incidents in the last few months which will require repair.
The City does have a tax that helps with improvements at the Park and the City strives to use this
money wisely. Some of the recent projects or improvements include:

New Disc Golf Course opened March 2013

INDEPENDENCE DAY –
JULY 4TH
Snap, Crackle, Pop! Happy 4th of July! Just a quick
reminder that fireworks ARE NOT allowed within

to keep it safe!
SPRING RESIDENTIAL CLEAN-UP
The City of Camdenton, in cooperation with Allied Waste, will be sponsoring the 18th Annual Spring Residential Clean-Up, June 9-13, 2014. Mark
your calendars and start gathering the items you wish to have picked up. This will follow the 4th Annual City Wide Garage Sale, June 6-7, 2014 (see
page 2).
To participate, simply place your unwanted items at curbside on your regularly scheduled trash pickup day during that week only. Allied Waste will
collect most of the items and City workers will arrange to pick up white goods and tires. There is no additional charge for extra items put out during
Spring Clean-Up. There will NOT be a collection point behind the old City Hall in the gravel parking lot. Please do not take items to that site. Please
remember also that this clean up is for City residences only.
Some items require special preparation by you before they can be picked up:
 Tires must be removed from the rims
 Gas & oil must be properly drained from all small motors
 Tree limbs that are less than 3” in diameter and less than 6’ in length are acceptable (these will be picked up the following week, please do
not mix with other items)
 Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners (any item containing Freon) must have the compressor removed (we do NOT pick up
compressors)
Although we have tried to make arrangements for all of your unwanted items, there are still some things that will not be accepted:
 NO LEAVES will be collected
 Hazardous materials: oils, paints, solvents, batteries
 Extremely large items: sheds, trailers, cars, etc.
O’Reilly Automotive will accept waste motor oil for recycling (must be in an approved container). If you have other hazardous materials that you
would like to dispose of, you may contact the Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Department at (573) 751-5401.
