I hope that is all of the really bad weather that we get, but I suspect there is more to come. Let me begin by reminding you that we face an important item on the April election. We are asking the voters to continue the sales tax on vehicles, boats, and trailers that are bought out of state and licensed here in Missouri. This is not a new tax. Voters must approve the continuation of this sales tax by November or we will lose this revenue. It is estimated at $66,000 annually. This tax keeps our local business on a level playing field with out of state competitors. Finally, let me remind you that a no vote will continue this tax and the vital services provided to our citizens; a yes vote discontinues the tax. See the ballot information on page 3. In January of 2015 we were talking about developing a comprehensive plan for our city. We are nearing completion of the plan. In the next two months you will have the opportunity to voice your opinions on the plan. On March 8, the Planning and Zoning Commission will have a public hearing on the plan and listen to your comments. After this hearing the plan can be adopted by P&Z, and then sent on to the Board of Alderman for their support. I would like to thank all of the people who have volunteered their time to develop this plan. Especially those members of the Steering Committee who have met almost every month for the past year. Their input has been essential. We are working on several projects at City Hall. We will be going out for bids for several projects. Those projects include the sidewalk projects, tennis court reconstruction, street overlays, and the sewer project on Lake Drive. In the next month we will resume meetings on the Airport Veterans Memorial fund raising and the construction of the memorial. Hopefully we can set a date for groundbreaking soon. As most of you know, we are in the middle of the Blue Light campaign, which is designed to recognize local law enforcement. I am proud of the efforts of the city police department, this is a great way to show our support. Special thanks to Mic and Judy Carlson for their efforts in organizing and raising funds for this project. I would also like to thank C.O.P.S. for their assistance. As always, it is my great honor to serve as Mayor of Camdenton. If there is anything we can do to make Camdenton a better place do not hesitate to contact us here at City Hall. Thank you, 1 Mayor John McNabb BULLETIN BOARD CALENDAR OF EVENTS Welcome New Businesses! Willey *Denotes incumbent candidate ************************************************************************************************ To the Qualified Voters of Camdenton *Shall the City of Camdenton discontinue applying and collecting the local sales tax on the titling of motor vehicles, trailers, boats, and outboard motors that were purchased from a source other than a licensed Missouri dealer? Approval of this measure will result in a reduction of local revenue to provide for vital services for the City of Camdenton and it will place Missouri dealers of motor vehicles, outboard motors, boats, and trailers at a competitive disadvantage to non-Missouri dealers of motor vehicles, outboard motors, boats and trailers. Yes No *Section 144.767 RSMO requires the ballot language submission shall contain substantially the above language. If this ballot question receives a majority of the votes cast in favor of the proposal, the local sales tax will cease to apply to the titling of vehicles, trailers, boats and outboard motors that are purchased from out of state dealers. This will cause licensed Missouri dealers to compete at a disadvantage; favoring the out of state dealers. In order to allow licensed Missouri dealers to continue to compete equally a vote of no must be cast. City Wide Garage Sale and Residential Clean Up The City of Camdenton is planning for the 6TH Annual City Wide Garage Sale. The event is tentatively planned for Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, 2016 with the annual Residential Clean Up the following week on your regular trash pickup date. If any resident wishes to participate in this event they simply need to call City Hall at 346-3600 and request that their address is added to the map which will be made available to the public. The City will be waiving the garage sale permit requirement for those days only. This is a great way to pass on those “previously loved items” in addition to cleaning up the residential areas of our town. For this to be successful the City is counting on you, our citizens! Additional information will be made available in the next newsletter in May and on the City website: www.camdentoncity.com. Convenience Service Added for Citizens of Camdenton As a convenience for our citizens, customers of WCA trash haulers may drop of their payments at City Hall and they will be forwarded to WCA for credit to your account. If you have questions about this service you can contact Becky McClure with WCA at 417-426-5001 or Renée Kingston, City Clerk, at 573-346-3600. Officers with the Camdenton Police Department are selling Law Enforcement Torch Run T-Shirts that support the Missouri Special Olympics. This is the 20th year that the Camdenton Police Department has participated in selling Torch Run t-shirts for the Missouri Special Olympics. “Each year our department sets a goal to raise at least $1,000.00. Any law enforcement agency that raises over $1,000.00 a year becomes a member of the Torch Run Club and the following year that agency’s name will appear on the back of the t-shirt as a member of the Torch Run Club,” stated Officer Joe Schierding. This year’s t-shirts are baby blue in color and are available in short sleeve. Shirts are $10 in sizes Small to 2XL and $15 in size 3XL. All donations and proceeds from this event go directly to the Missouri Special Olympics to offset expenses for the athletes who participate in the Special Olympics. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt or donating to this great cause, please contact Officer Schierding or Melissa at 573-346-3604. Take the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Appreciation Day) held on January 9, 2016 Mayor John McNabb proclaimed, Saturday, January 9, 2016 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in the City of Camdenton and encouraged all citizens to take time out of their day to show law enforcement and their families how much their services are valued to the lake area. One way citizens were asked to show support was to replace their outside porch light with a blue light bulb and shine it for 30 days, also known as Project Blue Light. Donors (see list below) contributed money to help purchase blue light bulbs to be distributed FREE to our local community. Volunteers distributed the donated blue light bulbs at Walmart, high school basketball games and local businesses. Others can still show their support by flying a blue ribbon from their car antenna, wearing blue for a day, send a thank you card to a local department, or change their profile picture on social media for the month of January. Thank you to the following businesses for their support of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day: Advantage Printing & Signs, Arrowmart, Anytime Fitness, Butcher Shop, Big O Tires, Ellis Battery, Bowling Electric, Shelter Insurance, Camdenton Fire Arms, State Farm-Mac Decker, Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC, Laura Wright, Optimist Club of Camdenton, Lake Oil, Carlson Lucas Association, Peace Lutheran Group, Farmers Insurance Group, Holiday Motors, Smart Inspections, Pink Zebra Co, and Walmart. A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Mic and Judy Carlson for organizing and donating several hours of their time to the success of Project Blue Light and National Concern of Police Survivors (COPS) for the ongoing support of our nations law enforcement officers! For more information, you can visit www.nationalcops.org. HOUSE and BUSINESS NUMBERS Many homes and businesses within the City of Camdenton still do not have the correct E-911 Address posted. House and business numbers make it easier to locate a particular building in the event of an emergency. If emergency personnel can’t find the residence or business, they cannot find you to assist. City Ordinance 510.020, states all numbers should be displayed in a visible manner from the front of the street. Due to a few recent incidents where emergency personnel were unable to locate a home or business, Community Service Officer Ivey will be stepping up enforcement on displayed house and business numbers. If you are found to be in violation, you may be required to appear in court. To read about City Ordinance 510.020, please visit http://www.ecode360.com/CA3256. If you are unsure of your 911 address, you can call the Camden County E-911 Mapping & Addressing at 346-4440 extension 3194. 6
