Without music life would be a mistake. Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche live it, it won’t come out of your horn. ~Charlie Parker 2008-09 Camdenton Chorale I have my own particular sorrows, loves, delights; and you have yours. But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love, belong to all of us, in all times and in all places. Music is the only means whereby we feel these emotions in their universality. ~H.A. Sudden cardiac arrest is often an unpredictable, silent killer. The only treatment is to provide quick defibrillation with the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator, or AED. “Carter’s Gift From the Heart” now works to place AED’s in public places and to educate other’s in their use. We hope that because of Carter’s short life, other’s experiencing sudden cardiac arrest may have a second chance. Tribute gifts inspired by the performance of “One Bright Candle” in memory of Carter Grace may be mailed to: Saint Luke’s Hospital Foundation, 4225 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, MO 64111 or made online at saintlukesgiving.org. “Such gifts are a meaningful way to honor or remember loved ones and to help support vital life-saving treatment, research, and patient support programs at Saint Luke’s Hospital.” Written and Recorded by Bobby Newquist: On August 10,2008, my wife Brandi Ruwwe Newquist passed from a five-year battle with breast cancer. During her battle, she became involved with the American Cancer Society, and through her leadership role, helped to raise over 1.6 million dollars to help fight this awful disease. We hope that Brandi’s, and so many others courageous fights against any type of cancer, will continue to inspire the funding to help fight for a cure. Tribute gifts inspired by the performance of “One Bright Candle” in memory of Brandi Ruwwe Newquist may be mailed to: American Cancer Society, 25020 W. Avenue Stanford, Suite #170, Valencia, CA 91355. “Nearly all of us have been touched by breast cancer in some way…and we all have the power to fight it. Join the movement to end breast cancer.“ Written by the director, Recorded by Bryan Taylor: “One Bright Candle” is performed today in memory of Carter and Brandi and all others who made a difference in the world, be they a 3-year-old or a forty-year-old. These two bright lights were extinguished before their time, and yet…both of these treasured members of our family have inspired a desire and a will to make a difference…both have helped to create opportunities for others to live, dream and believe…and so can you…and so can I…when we try. The Camdenton Chorale The Camdenton Chorale was created by Mrs. Mack during the 1998-1999 school year, following the creation of first a 3rd grade Honor Choir in 1996-1997, and then a 4th grade choir named the Choristers in 1997-1998. The Chorale combined the 4th grade ensemble with a 5th and 6th grade choir named the Take Note Choir, and remained a three-grade ensemble through the 2006-2007 school year. In 2007-2008 the Camdenton R-III School District restructured it’s elementary schools, and Hawthorn Elementary was created, housing 3rd and 4th grade students, with Oak Ridge Intermediate housing all 5th and 6th graders in the District. The Hawthorn Honor Choir was established in the 2007-2008 school year, and serves as an invaluable feeder choir for the Camdenton Chorale. The joy of music should never be interrupted by a commercial. ~Leonard Bernstein In 2000, the Chorale was honored to perform for the 62nd annual MMEA convention, and has been invited to perform for the following professional organizations: Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals, Missouri Music Educator’s Association Conference, Missouri Association of Reading Recovery Educators, and through Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, was invited to perform for the “Pathways to Student’s Success” Conference, with keynote speaker Art Linkletter. The Chorale yearly performs at a St. Louis Cardinals game, and on May 9th the Chorale will be presenting a shared concert with the Springfield Children’s Chorus, through invitation from the Lake Area Arts Council. We desire to entertain and inspire you today with our music. The Chorale rehearses twice weekly, on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:30 to 8:15. Today’s performance literature includes edited compositions in unison, 2-part, 3-part and 4-part. The director often edits the voicing to accommodate the vocal capabilities of 5th and 6th grade children, and yet challenge them with vocal masterworks that allow growth as musicians and individuals. Should you wish to program any of our selections with your ensemble, the voicings in the published octavos may differ from our presentation. Thank you for attending our performance! Sarah Gregg is a junior flutist from Camdenton High School, the daughter of Conni and Michael Gregg. She is in her eighth year of playing the flute, and studies privately with Camdenton Assistant Band Director, Amanda Fall. Says Sarah, “Music is my passion, it is what I enjoy.” Music is love in search of a word. ~Sidney Lanier The pause is as important as the note. ~Truman Fisher The Camdenton R-III School District The Camdenton R-III School District consists of 334 square miles in Camden, Morgan and Laclede counties, serving students from Camdenton, Decaturville, Greenview, Linn Creek, Montreal, Osage Beach, Roach and Sunrise Beach. Quotes from Camdenton Chorale “Seniors” “Singing makes me happy and everyone in my family happy, too. It means a lot to me to have a voice, and a lot to be able to let it out. I love music and Chorale.” ~ Morgan Righter “I love to sing because it makes me feel good about myself. It’s fun to go perform at something I have talent in. Being in Chorale made my voice go higher than it ever had before! ~ Danaelyn Flint “I like to sing because it is fun and joyful. What it means to make music with the Chorale is that we are making magic.” ~ Taylor Erickson “I sing, because I think it is inspiring. It can make you sad, happy or even mad. I love singing with the Chorale because we do such a variety of songs! ~ Caitlyn Tucker “When I sing I can set my soul and voice free to express who I am inside.” ~ Zachary Hansen “Music is my life. I sing because it’s fun. Whenever I feel a strong emotion I sing about it. That’s how I feel about music—music rocks!!” ~ Julie Bridges “I think music and singing are great, and I am very proud to be part of the Camdenton Chorale. When we start singing the songs in practice, it sends chills down my spine. It feels great being a ‘senior!’” ~ Polly Dinsdale “I enjoy singing because it’s something I’m good at and something I have a passion for. I sing because it makes me feel good. I can’t get enough of it! I love the rush of getting in front of a crowd, and the clapping when we finish a performance. I really love the way my parents smile and say, ‘Good job, Kate!’” ~ Katie Chappell “Music and singing are my favorite things in the whole wide world. If singing were illegal, I would be in jail! I don’t think I could live without being able to sing. I sing all of the time, and that makes me a better singer.” ~ Hope Johns “If you’re worried you can sing it out—there’s a song for everything!” ~ Rebecca Molt
