Skipper was whelped on 12/23/05 in a nice litter of 4. She was born literally in my lap!
From her very first step I knew she was the pick of the litter & selected her to be my first
Bred By Bitch to compete with ..... she has never let me down!
With limited showing, Skipper finished at 16 months of age and we began her Specials career.
To date, Skipper has earned many Breed wins and a recent Group 3 at the Riverside KC.
** Always breeder/ owner handled **
I couldn’t be prouder of our beautiful girl for always showing her heart out & her incredible wins!

SHOWING
There is little doubt that showing dogs has changed over the years. Fifty years ago there were fewer dogs
being shown and there were fewer dog shows. Of course entry fees were much less than they are today.
The usual entry fee was $4 or $5 per show and it was a definite requirement that you arrive early as your
dog had to be examined by the show veterinarian before you could take him into the show site. Most shows
were benched. You were required to have your dog on the bench during certain hours. The time you were
in the ring and an occasional pit stop for your dog were the only times you were allowed to take your dog off
the bench.
Have you ever seen a bench chain? This was a metal link chain with a ratchet at both ends. One end was
hooked to the bench and the other to your dog’s collar. This was the way you kept your dog on the bench.
Actually, most people brought folding chairs and stools and a packed lunch for themselves plus a water bowl
and food for their dog or dogs. Then you sat with your dog and the other exhibitors and tried to protect your
exhibits from the hordes of spectators who wandered through the benching area to see the dogs. Many of
these dreaded spectators were looking for a pet to buy and asked intelligent questions and you ended giving
them your card.
Sometimes you had a puppy buyer from the contact. Other spectators displayed a lack of common sense
and brought their unruly children along. These imps would sometimes rush to hug your dog. If your dog
didn’t mind it was okay but in many cases the dog was not used to children grabbing at them and there were
incidents.
Finally someone thought of a wire crate. This was a life saver! The dog could be seen and yet no one could
grab it or hug it. Very shortly almost everyone used the wire crate for the benching area.
The crate, however, did not relieve the owner from sitting there all day to watch over his dog.
The exhibitors chatted and became good friends. They shared their experiences with each other covering
such topics as breeding, choice of a stud dog, feeding, which judge to support, which show to attend, even
some harsh judgments of each other’s dogs.
The result of all this conversation was knowledge. People learned from each other. They respected each
other’s opinions, they knew if a dog “threw” a certain fault when bred to a certain line, they learned about
their dogs, their friend’s dogs, and what to do or not to do to improve the breed.
Today there is little opportunity to converse except to make a fleeting comment or two. An exhibitor rushes
in at the last minute, grabs an armband, rushes into the ring, and if he doesn’t win, he rushes out of the
show, doesn’t stay to see who takes the breed. He didn’t win so it doesn’t matter.
Too often we have no idea who the judge is. And too often the exhibitors don’t care. This is obvious by
looking at the ads. Here you are winning a group placement with your dog and the judge is shown holding
your ribbon. But who is that judge? You run the photo in a magazine. You name the dog, the handler, the
win, the show, but the poor judge is omitted from the caption. What difference does it make?
Who cares who judged? Well, the judge does, for one. Its like being in a group of people, introducing
everyone to everyone else except that one person who happens to be the person responsible for the whole
situation. The judge made it happen.
Not just to hanker after the old days but it seems they had a lot more meaning to showing dogs than the
present time. We didn’t go for the heavily marked dogs. We watched for type and style. The heavily marked
dogs were sold as pets. We liked a well-spotted animal which had Dal type and could move at a proper
pace. We didn’t race around the ring. We moved the dog at its natural trot.
Today the learning experience is missing, the respect for knowledgeable judges is missing, and the study
of pedigrees before breeding is missing. People want to breed to the top winning dog, fine, but sometimes
that is a mistake. The dog and the bitch do not match in any way and the result is a litter of ordinary pups.
Let’s go back and put the real fun into showing and breeding!

LuvMy Dalmatians has a new addition!
Erin’s LuvMy Country Gentleman “Liam”, and he has been making us proud.
At his very first show, Mrs. Houston (Toddie) Clark awarded him a 3 point major
by taking WD, BOS at the Elm City KC show.
At the Rockland KC shows, Liam once again took WD, BOS under Judge Mr. Sonny Ambrosio for 1 point and the
following day Liam took RWD to a 3 point major under Judge Thomas J. Squicciarini.
What an overwhelming start for our new addition!
UPDATE: Liam wins WD for another major at the DCGNY Specialty!
