THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO
WEDDING
VEILS
WELCOME
Couture Bridal Accessories proudly creates HANDMADE and unique bridal accessories for brides across
the globe. Our mission is to INSPIRE and create the most fashionable accessories for the modern day
bride.
In this guide, we have gathered all our knowledge and EXPERTISE to share with you. We will reveal all the
insiders tips you need to know to choose the perfect wedding veil.
This guide will hopefully INSPIRE you and guide you in the right direction to completing this once in a
lifetime purchase.
Style
Consider your wedding dress, its
focus points and its style.
It’s always useful to try on different
styles of veils to get a feel for which
you prefer and more importantly
know what style will best suit your
dress! Your veil choice depends on
your dress style.
Traditional
If your dress is traditional, a single tier or double tier veil with lace trimming will work perfectly. A
lace trimmed veil can compliment a lace dress. Mantilla veils are trimmed with lace made with a
circular piece of tulle and lace edging which is placed on the head, the mantilla frames the face
beautifully.
Classical
The ultimate classic veil is the cut edge veil; this veil is simple yet elegant with minimal fuss. This veil
will appeal to the classic bride as it will never date.
Vintage
For vintage loving brides who love short, tea length dresses the birdcage veil is the perfect accessory
to complete this look! Not forgetting pouf veils which are incredibly bold and fun! They add a touch of
60’s flair to a bridal ensemble.
Bohemian
Recently inspired by the iconic Kate Moss, these utterly romantic boho veils suit the free spirited bride who
chooses to wear a more relaxed, free flowing gown with not a lot of structure! Veils best suited to this style
are soft in texture and very flowing, Juliet cap veils work beautifully with this style of gown.
Colour
As a veil designer, I know only too
well the amount of different shades
of ivory there are, so finding the right
shade can be difficult! I’d
recommend bringing your dress
sample with you when purchasing
your veil to ensure you find the
perfect match. If you are ordering
your veil online, any good designer
should be happy to send you a veil
swatch to ensure you find the right
colour. Our samples can be ordered
online here.
Detail
Veils can be trimmed in a wide range of trimmings
including lace, beading, embellishments, ribbon,
flower applique, embroidery.
Remember, your veil should compliment your dress
and not overpower it! A heavily embellished dress
looks great with a clean, simple veil whereas a
simple gown allows you to be more adventurous
and choose a veil with plenty of detail. Its a nice
idea to mimic some element of your dress in your
veil i.e adding a touch of lace with a lace dress but
be careful not to overdo it.
Length
We would recommend trying on a
variety of different lengths at your
dress fitting in order to give you a
good idea of what will work best with
your gown but in our experience the choice of veil is
dependent on two things, the
SETTING and the dress TRAIN
length
Where your wedding is held plays a
big part in determining the length of
veil you should choose. For example
if you are marrying in a formal,
church setting then I would opt for a
cathedral veil. The church aisle is
the perfect setting to wow your
guests waltzing down the aisle. If
you are having a destination beach
wedding then a shorter veil length
like the chapel length would be best,
the last thing you want is your veil
trailing behind covered in sand.
The length of your veil is dictated by
the length of your dress. As a
general rule,
The shorter the dress, the shorter
the veil!
A great TIP to remember is to
always make sure the veil extends
past the train on your dress!
Birdcage
Short veils like the birdcage and bandeau veils are perfect for a more
informal look and they tend to work well with a dress which may not
suit the traditional veil i.e. tea length dresses. Birdcage veils are
made of caged netting which frames the face. These veils are a
popular choice for brides who want to channel the vintage look. A
bandeau veil is a more demure version of the birdcage which covers
the eyes only, adding an element of mystery.
Fingertip
Elbow, waist and fingertip veils are all progressively shorter.
They are a nice option for a less informal look but still can
compliment the most traditional of gowns. They’re elegant and
easy to handle without having the hassle of carrying a full length
train around all day. A typical length for this veil is 44 inches.
Blusher
A blusher veil refers to the shorter layer of veiling which falls over
the face. A blusher veil can be added to most bridal veils and
simply folds back during the wedding service. The blusher veil
adds an element of mystery to a bride coming down the aisle and
is traditionally the one that your husband lifts back once the vows
have been made. At that all time magic moment ‘you can now
kiss the bride’. A blusher veil can be anything from 20 inches to
even a dramatic 60 inches or more.
Cathedral
If you want to go all out then a Cathedral length veil
is the one for you! Cathedral veils create a
dramatic look and are the perfect choice for a
formal, church setting. Cathedral veils measure
between 120 144 inches or even longer.
Chapel
Chapel length veils measure approximately 80
inches in length (generally between 7090
inches) and work really well with floor length
bridal gowns, the additional inches frame the
dress hem which completes the look.
FABRIC
Veils come in lots of different types of fabrics, the sheerest of which and the most
popular option for veiling is tulle but depending on the look you’re after, there are
also a variety of other materials to consider, such as lace and silk.
Silk tulle is the most expensive, it drapes and flows beautifully, making it the most
luxurious tulle of all. Synthetic tulle is the most budget friendly option, and it offers
some other benefits over more expensive products.

of choosing your veil overwhelming
or you simply can’t find one you

INSIDERS TIPS
one
When purchasing a veil from the shop where you purchase your dress, the options can be very limited!
There are many reasons for this but mainly they see their dresses as the high ticket items and often
veils and accessories are an afterthought. They only stock a very limited amount of styles and lengths
and chances are they won’t have the perfect veil for you and brides will often settle as they feel there
are no other options out there! Well settling is just not good enough, you NEED to feel the WOW factor
that you feel with your dress and why shouldn’t you? two
I would always suggest ordering a veil fabric swatch before ordering online! Remember that this is your
opportunity to see and feel the quality of the products used by the designer. This will give you complete
confidence as a buyer and you will know exactly what you are getting so you have no unwelcomed
surprises! Plus it gives you the opportunity to colour match the veil to your dress perfectly!
three
Juliet cap veils are a real favourite of mine! I love each and every style of cap veil including cap veils
worn on and off the forehead. However I have experienced situations where the cap style just didn’t
suit the bride. The reason for this is mainly face shape, brides with delicate, petit features will find a cap
veil worn covering most of the forehead too overpowering. In my experience, fuller featured and more
round face shapes can carry this look off better.
SUMMARY
Make sure the veil extends past the train on your dress.
The shorter the dress, the shorter the veil.
Request a sample of the veil fabric before you buy.
Sometimes less is more.
Bring your veil with to you to your hair trial so your stylist can
fit it perfectly in with your hair style.

Just received my hair accessory for my wedding in December and I couldn’t be more pleased. It was extremely
well packaged and beautifully presented in a keepsake box along with a thoughtful handwritten card. Those little
