DID You Know?
Marc Broussard has had a
strong and steady output of
music since launching his
solo career in 2002. So far
he has five studio albums
under his belt, as well as
one live album and three
EPs. He also released a
Christmas album that came
out last year.
He has a new studio album - SOS – Save Our Soul II –
Soul On A Mission – scheduled to go on sale September 30, with 50 percent of
the profits going to charity,
according to his website,
www.marcbroussard.com.
Right now he’s in the midst
of a tour that has him crisscrossing the country.
Unless you’ve heard Marc Broussard’s music, you can’t fully grasp the soulfulness
that possesses this man. But fortunately you’ll be able to hear and see Broussard in
person when he appears for a free outdoor concert on Wednesday, September 7 in
downtown Reading.
The show, part of the Downtown Alive concert series, kicks off at 5 p.m. in the 500
block of Penn Street. (Check the accompanying article in this newsletter for details
about free parking, food and refreshments available for sale, etc., on the day of the
concert.) Opening for Broussard will be local performers Caroline Reese and the
Drifting Fifth.
Broussard’s Facebook page describes him as having “a unique gift of channeling the
multiple spirits of classic R&B and soul into contemporary terms…That gift has been
a matter of common knowledge since 2002, when Broussard released his debut album, Momentary Setback, which he recorded and released independently at age 20.
Nor was it a secret before then, going back to those lucky witnesses who heard him
belt ‘Johnny B. Goode’ onstage at age 5 while sitting in with his father's band. Pretty
much throughout his life, Broussard has been tapped as a talent to watch.”
Broussard is the son of Ted Broussard, an acclaimed Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist and former member of The Boogie Kings. Raised in Carencro, Louisiana, he was
surrounded by numerous musical influences that helped shape his soulful style.
His touring credentials include sharing the stage with the likes of Dave Matthews
Band, Willie Nelson, Maroon 5, O.A.R., and Bonnie Raitt, among others. And he has
collaborated on songs with artists such as LeAnn Rimes and Sara Bareilles.
