President’s Message
The Athens Chapter of WCR has gotten off to a good start!
Program Chair Heather McElroy has presented interesting and
informative programs, designed to educate our members so that
they might be able to have a successful career in Real Estate. In
January, we had a program on “Financial Advantages of Green
Building” presented by Luis Imery and in February we had Chad
Brown presenting: “Tax Benefits of Incorporation and Business
Deductions”. We have had at least 30 in attendance at every
luncheon, which is an increase in attendance.

We had a Wine-Tasting Membership Social on February 12th at
Rustica restaurant and bar in Normaltown, which was also wellattended. From that gathering, we have gotten two new Realtor
members and 2 Affiliate members!
Our Chili Cook-Off was a resounding success, despite the chill and
competing events, with WCR Governor, Sylvia Brush, serving as
one of the 3 judges. Renee Middleton, owner of East West Bistro
and Graham Blanks, rounded out the team. There were 6 entries
this year, all delicious! Over $900.00 in prizes were given away. It
was a fun evening!!
Athens Chapter of WCR is a small chapter, but a good chapter,
with great people, ready to help others and their fellow Realtors
and Affiliates. We also are proud to claim Leah Leggett, soon to
be Georgia WCR President, as a member. We are a good team and
one that I hope you will be interested to join! Come try us out…
our next meeting is April 18th at George’s Low Country restaurant
at 2095 S. Milledge Avenue, 11:30-1:00pm.

I have been a WCR member since 2005. I have received more then expected from this organization. The
WCR has urged me to grow and become a better Realtor, a better leader, and a better person. I have
learned so much from the programs and speakers. The WCR has given me an opportunity for leadership
not only on local level but also on a state level as well. And I have made some really great friendships with
people not only in my local chapter but also at the State and National conferences. I have received several
referrals through the networking. I couldn’t ask for a better organization to devote my time to while
working to improve my business and myself.

What a life-changing experience it has been since I joined WCR several years ago! When I joined, I
thought this was a small group of women; a few men who gathered each month to have lunch and network….little did I know of the Leadership Skills that I would gain through my membership, nor did I have
any idea of the size of this tremendous Organization…the 12th largest women’s organization in the Nation! Although I have spent years in leadership rolls in my previous job, WCR has helped me to build on
those skills and fine tune them to the point that I have actually taken on the President’s position of this and
another large organization in Georgia for 2011. I have a fine support group – our TEAM 2011 Leaders –
and an amazing group of
leaders on the State level that I know I can call upon when needed. Whether you are looking to add an
assistant, manage your own office, or are an Affiliate/Partner, WCR offers a great opportunity to build the
skills for success!

Joint Chapters Business Resource Meeting
Rhetta Howard, Leah Leggett, Laura Leiden, and
Veronica Imery attended the Joint Chapter
Business Resource Meeting, which was held at the
Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta on March 7, 2013.
All 12 Georgia WCR Chapters participated in the
meeting, which was led by 2013 Georgia WCR
President, Kathy Haddock.
The 2013 National WCR President, Anita Davis was
the Guest Speaker. She spoke on the benefits and
the value of being a WCR member and touched on
the dues increase that was spread out over the last
three years. It was a fantastic meeting!
All the Local Chapter President’s wore red to the
meeting in honor of the National’s President’s
favorite color. Thanks to all 12 Local Chapter
Presidents for putting it all together! Good job!
The Athens Chapter received a
certificate for our 40th year as a chapter.
The Athens Chapter was chartered in
1973. This year we celebrate 40 years!
We couldn’t have got this far without our
members, Realtors and Affiliates. Thank
you for your continued commitment to our
organization!

Brand Mortgage. The 2nd Place winner was,
Mike McCleary with Fortson, Bentley and
Griffin. The 3rd Place winner was Lisa Ott
with Bank of America. The People’s Choice
winner was Eric Blanks.
