Box 7371 Athens, GA. 30604 President’s Message On December 9th, we had an awesome turnout for the Holiday Christmas party and Installation of the 2014 officers. We were joined by Kathy Haddock, the Georgia Women’s Council of Realtors President and Joan Shanks, the Regional Vice President, who ably installed the 2014 officers. Thanks to our sponsors, Chuck Searcy, Classic Home Inspections and Alan Kennedy, Cornerstone Home Lending we enjoyed a nice party! The following officers were installed: Laura Leiden, President, Shavon Echols, President-elect, Jennifer Varnadoe, Secretary and John Laster, Treasurer. It was a fun night! We presented a check for $1000.00 (proceeds from our Oktoberfest event) to Joan Prittie, Executive Director of Project Safe. We owe the increased amount we were able to donate to all the hard work of Ways & Means Chair, Mary Catherine Smith, her committee and our sponsors, Pillar to Post, Servpro, Quarterman & Hodson, State Farm, Pinnacle Bank, Blassingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley and Bank of America. Plaques were awarded to the following: Rhetta Howard, past President; Brenda Thompson, Member of the Year; and Chuck Searcy and Chip Brown, Affiliates of the Year and Laura Leiden, Entrepreneur of the Year. Then on December 10th, one of our local past president’s Leah Leggett was installed as President of Georgia Women’s Council of Realtors! Start enjoying your WCR membership today at www.wcr.org Athens Chapter Page 4 I have been a WCR member since 2005. I have received more then expected from this organization. The WCR has urged me to grow and become a better Realtor, a better leader, and a better person. I have learned so much from the programs and speakers. The WCR has given me an opportunity for leadership not only on local level but also on a state level as well. And I have made some really great friendships with people not only in my local chapter but also at the State and National conferences. I have received several referrals through the networking. I couldn’t ask for a better organization to devote my time to while working to improve my business and myself. -Leah Leggett, 2013 Georgia WCR President Elect What a life-changing experience it has been since I joined WCR several years ago! When I joined, I thought this was a small group of women; a few men who gathered each month to have lunch and network….little did I know of the Leadership Skills that I would gain through my membership, nor did I have any idea of the size of this tremendous Organization…the 12th largest women’s organization in the Nation! Although I have spent years in leadership rolls in my previous job, WCR has helped me to build on those skills and fine tune them to the point that I have actually taken on the President’s position of this and another large organization in Georgia for 2011. I have a fine support group – our TEAM 2011 Leaders – and an amazing group of leaders on the State level that I know I can call upon when needed. Whether you are looking to add an assistant, manage your own office, or are an Affiliate/Partner, WCR offers a great opportunity to build the skills for success! -Sandra Russell, 2011 Athens Chapter WCR President 2013 Committee Chairs Ways and Means Committee Mary Catherine Smith, CJ&L Paulette Walsh Brown, Synovus Mortgage Education and Program Committee Heather McElroy, Prudential Blanton Properties Finance and Budget Committee Chuck Searcy, Classic Home Inspections Nominating and Awards Committee Brenda Thompson, Carriage House Realty Membership Committee Laura Leiden, Keller Williams Realty Greater Athens Marketing and Technology Committee Leah Leggett, Prudential Blanton Properties Leadership Retreat— President Elect, Laura Leiden leads the planning retreat for the 2014 Governing Board.
