The former canine building was bursting at the seams, and we are so thankful to have
completed phase one. Our work is not done yet though. We are now starting phase two
to complete a much needed new feline building.
Our current feline building has space limitations and is in a state of disrepair. The
building is a century old farmhouse, and it reduces our ability to operate as efficiently as
needed. A new feline building will also provide space to rescue twice as many cats and
kittens, increasing our capacity from 50 cats to 100.
The total feline building
project cost is $550,000.
Thanks to generous
support from many caring
people, we already have
$350,000 and are well on
our way to turning our
dream into a reality.
Naming rights are
available in both the
canine and feline buildings
and can be pledged over a
period of three years. For
more information please

AniMeals– Pet Food Pantry
Did you know Five Acres has a pet food pantry for low income families with dogs and
cats? We want to help keep people and their pets together! AniMeals is open Sundays
from 8am to 11am (closed on holidays and holiday weekends). To get started in the
program, applicants need to bring proof of low income status (unemployment letter or
proof of government assistance), photo id, and vet record with weight of all pets to the
AniMeals volunteers on Sunday mornings between the hours of 8am and 11am.
AniMeals is possible thanks to generous food donations. The Petco on Zumbehl in St.
Charles is supporting Five Acres through their in-store collection bin. You can
purchase any dry or canned dog or cat food at their store and place it in the donation
bin. Food donations can also be dropped off at Five Acres. You can also help by
hosting a supply drive to collect food for our shelter animals and animals served by the
AniMeals program.
AniMeals is run completely by a group of dedicated volunteers, and we want to thank
them for making this service possible!

2013 Spay-ghetti Dinner
Spay-ghetti was a huge success for our
shelter animals! Proceeds from the event
will spay or neuter approximately 315 dogs
and cats, preventing hundreds of unwanted
litters and saving thousands more from
entering shelters. Blues players David
Backes, Alex Pietrangleo, and David Perron (pictured above) helped raise
money by participating in Pasta with a Pro. Volunteers like Karina and Rich
(pictured left) were a huge help at the event.
Special thanks to Petco Foundation, our
Platinum Paw Sponsor. A big thank you to
these additional sponsors: St. Charles
Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, Hillside
Animal Hospital, Coventry HealthCare,
Spencer Creek Animal Hospital, Sandy Fischer,
Henson Electric, and Devereux & Company.

Five Acres Animal Shelter
Jennifer, Jeannie and Rick Piglowski with Coldwell Banker Gundaker
presented Five Acres with a donation of $4,100! Committed to helping
families and companion animals find a home, they annually pledge
$100 for each closed listing. We want to extend them a heartfelt thank
you on behalf of the many animals saved!
Does your dog or cat have spring fever? Here is a list of fun
activities you can do with your pets– some are great for rainy days.

Kong toys are great entertainment for dogs and cats. Try freezing peanut butter in a
Kong and give to your dog when you need to leave them. Cats also love Kong toys that
dispense catnip or treats.
Give your cat a cardboard box or paper bag and let the fun begin.
Take a cupcake pan and tennis balls. Hide small treats under some of the tennis balls
and watch your dog find the reward.
Place bird feeders outside a window from which your cat can perch for bird watching.
Further your bond with your dog and sign up for a training class.
Try a treat or food dispensing toy, like those made by Busy Buddy, with your dog for
lasting entertainment.
