[Elijah prayed,] “O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know
that you, O Lord, are God and that you
have brought them back to yourself.” Immediately the fire of the Lord flashed
down from heaven and burned up the
young bull, the wood, the stones, and the
dust. It even licked up all the water in the
ditch! And when the people saw it, they
fell on their faces and cried out, “The
Lord is God! The Lord is God!”

At the showdown at Mount Carmel, Elijah pitted the Baal gods against the
Lord God, and no matter what the 450 prophets of Baal did—dance wildly,
cut themselves, and shout for hours for Baal to answer—there was “no reply, no voice, no answer” (v. 29). But when Elijah placed himself before
the Lord and did what God showed him to do by rebuilding the altar and
praying, God heard and answered in a mighty way. God revealed Godself
by sending fire from heaven that consumed the sacrifice and everything
surrounding it, even the water. And the people returned to God. Our God is
not a “God at a distance” as a popular song and modern culture often depicts him. God is not like the impotent false gods who had no reply, no
voice, and no answer. The Lord is a God who not only hears and speaks
but who answers and acts on behalf of those who seek him. LORD, you
are the one true God and I praise you! Thank you for going to such great
lengths to demonstrate your power and to bring people back to you. Those
great lengths led your only Son to the cross because of your love for those
who are blind to your glory and power. Show yourself powerful in our
lives.

Dear Partners in the Gospel,
At every worship service we begin with the declaration that
Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran is a House of Prayer, Praise and Peace,
and we invite the Lord Jesus Christ to be present among us.
As we gather to sing songs of praise to God, as we lift up our prayer
concerns for the church, the world, and all those in need, we experience
a peace that surpasses our human understanding.
One of my favorite stories regarding the power of corporate prayer is found in Acts 12;3-5
That’s when King Herod got it into his head to go after some of the church members. He murdered James,
John’s brother. When he saw how much it raised his popularity ratings with the Jews, he arrested Peter—
all this during Passover Week, mind you—and had him thrown in jail, putting four squads of four soldiers
each to guard him. He was planning a public lynching after Passover. All the time that Peter was under
heavy guard in the jailhouse, the church prayed for him most strenuously.
If any story in the New Testament shows the power of corporate prayer, the account of Peter’s
dramatic release from prison does. Read the rest of the story in vs 6-16.
But in summary, while Peter was clamped down in chains and surrounded by guards, the believers
gathered at John’s house prayed fervently and persistently for him.
They didn’t expect, however, God’s miraculous deliverance to come so fast and in such an amazing
way.
Let this story encourage our hearts that the Lord is able to break chains, open closed doors, heal,
and deliver God’s beloved. Our corporate prayers as we gather in worship, and focused prayers
joined with others for specific prayer requests are the very conduits through which God releases
God’s power. During the past year and a half our corporate prayers, small group prayers, and the
prayers of the prayer partners have been answered in surprising and wonderful ways.
Theologian E.M Bounds once penned; Prayer is the easiest and hardest of all things; It’s results lie
outside the range of human possibilities; they are limited only by the Omnipotence of God.”
Currently there seems to be anxiety about the future of Immanuel-Trinity in regards to the debt load.
It’s time that corporately we begin to pray without ceasing , that God would reveal God’s plan for the
faith growth of each of us as well as for the future of our congregation. I believe God has great plans
for us as we strive to serve as a beacon church that is a House of Prayer, Praise, and Peace passionate about making Christ known, that reaches out to serve our community and our world.
Jesus reminded his first disciples,, “You have not, because you ask not”. Let us “ask in Jesus
name”, that the Spirit of the Living God would lead, guide and direct us, in the present and the future.
“Prayer changes things! May it always be so! Keep the faith, join the prayer partner team, and
“pray without ceasing”!
Standing on the Promises!

Theme for Summer 2016: FIRST LOVE
We are unable to love: Unable to love God. Unable to love others.
But God loved us anyway. Not with a flimsy, only when it’s
convenient, once-in-a-while kind of love. But with a deep,
all-of-the-time, for-all-of-time kind of love. A love that takes root
and gives life, love that fills us, changes, us, flows from us into the
world. And so, we are able to love: Able to love God, able to love
others. We love because God first loved us.

Chocolate News
We hope you are enjoying your summer with trips, picnics, camp fires, and, of course, chocolate. There is so much to
do over the summer that we don’t have time for during the rest of the year.
Speaking of chocolate, do you know that Thursday, July 28, is National Milk Chocolate Day? What a wonderful day to
eat one of our 8 milk chocolate Seroogy’s candy bars. If you would prefer dark chocolate, we also have those for sale
by the church office and by the mailboxes. All proceeds continue to go for debt reduction.
The April/May AARP Magazine (For a better mood, p. 32) talked about good choices in food and snacks with columns
labeled: Eat this, Not that!, and Why. When people feel down and crave chocolate, chocolate can be a mood
booster, and it also helps one to concentrate more fully, while improving blood flow to the brain. Dark chocolate, in
moderation, naturally, is the best choice. The article goes on to say that Dutch-process chocolate is not a good
choice because the chocolate is alkalized. This process can destroy 60% or more of the healthy nutrients in cocoa.
We will need to read labels to make sure we are getting the best chocolate.
We thank Beth Krause for this month’s quote. It ties in nicely with the AARP article about chocolate boosting one’s
mood.
For the rich there’s therapy.
For the rest of us, there’s chocolate.
As always, the better answer is that Jesus’ Holy Spirit is still the best Comforter in life, and He doesn’t distinguish
whether one is rich or poor or in between.
Thank you for your support,
Deborah Circle

Thank you very much for your donations for Personal Care
Kits and Baby Care Kits that were donated in response to the
mission moments that we shared in recent months.
The kits that are distributed through Lutheran World Relief will
be greatly appreciated. The need may be caused by natural
disasters, violence or poverty.
We will continue to collect items and pack kits all year around.
The rummage sale season is a good opportunity to purchase
like new items - especially for baby care kits. They may be
placed in the non-monetary basket in the church narthex.

Fall Festival 2016
Tuesday October 11th is the date for this year’s Fall Festival.
It is the largest fund raiser by WELCA (Women of the ELCA) at
Immanuel-Trinity. We use the money raised to give to our church,
community and the world. Our menu this year includes the world
famous WELCA chili!
We have many people who have volunteered to help as chairmen or
workers already, and we thank them. Have you thought about how
you can help? My basket for the Basket Raffle is well under way.
We will have baked goods, wonderful craft items, and gently used
items for sale. We need kitchen at dining room helpers, dishwashers
as well as folks to help clean up and the end of the day. Mark your
calendars, and ask how you can help. It is a wonderful time of food,
fellowship and fun.
Thank you – Your WELCA Board

Can you help with worship?
Sign up sheets are passed around during
worship and or check in the narthex.
Many hands are needed to have
the Worship Services run smoothly.

summer we are offering communion at
the Sunday 6:30 pm evening services.
Summer Travelers Keep up Your Offerings with Electronic Giving
Would you find it helpful to have your offerings debited directly from
your bank account as you probably do with other obligations?
Immanuel-Trinity offers electronic giving for those of you who wish to
have contributions transferred electronically to the church’s account. If you have plans
to travel this summer, electronic giving gives you a convenient way to keep up with your
intended offerings. Simply complete and return an electronic giving authorization form to
get started.
