1sstt International Conference on Energy Geotechnics ICEGT 2016 29 - 31 August 2016, Kiel, Germany _________________________________________________________ ISSMGE TC308 on Energy Geotechnics Programme www.icegt-2016.de 1 ICEGT 2016 - 1st International Conference on Energy Geotechnics 29 – 31 August 2016, Kiel, Germany Welcome The ISSMGE TC308 on Energy Geotechnics is pleased to welcome you to the 1st International Conference on Energy Geotechnics, ICEGT 2016, to be held in Kiel (Germany) from 29th to 31st August 2016. With the increasing energy demand and climate change implications, the development of sustainable energy systems based on integrated schemes of energy production, transport, and transfer as well as energy storage is of utmost importance. This issue is of increasing interest to the research field of geotechnical engineering. The core of this young research area focuses on new developments and solutions for civil, environmental, and industrial applications. With the establishment of the International Conference on Energy Geotechnics, which will be hosted at Kiel University with participants from over 26 countries and a total of 116 oral and poster presentations, we want to provide a platform for interaction and communication among academic and non-academic parties from different research areas. Kiel offers various research institutions in and around this research field and is an excellent location for international research exchange. Besides, Kiel is a traditional harbor city located at the Baltic Sea and offers a nice touristic, natural, and friendly environment. We aspire to host an event that will strengthen the unity between academics and practitioners working in fields related to energy geotechnics from all over the world. We hope to see you in Kiel in 2016 to celebrate together this great event.
