SAVE THE DATE!!! The 3rd annual Improv is coming fast!! The Good, The Bad, The Funny will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013. We are looking for more volunteers in preparing for our Improv, Raffle and Online Auction. If you can volunteer in any capacity, please contact Stacey Roell, President SPX Parent Association, at 816935-5095 -or- [email protected]. 357 Being in the image of God the human individual possesses the dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone. He is capable of self-knowledge, of self-possession and of freely giving himself and entering into communion with other persons. And he is called by grace to a covenant with his Creator, to offer him a response of faith and love that no other creature can give in his stead. 358 God created everything for man, (Cf. GS 12 § 1; 24 § 3; 39 § 1.) but man in turn was created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him: What is it that is about to be created, that enjoys such honor? It is man that great and wonderful living creature, more precious in the eyes of God than all other creatures! For him the heavens and the earth, the sea and all the rest of creation exist. God attached so much importance to his salvation that he did not spare his own Son for the sake of man. Nor does he ever cease to work, trying every possible means, until he has raised man up to himself and made him sit at his right hand. (St. John Chrysostom, In Gen. Sermo 2,1: PG 54,587D-588A.) Happy New Year! Happy New Year! During this Advent time, as we wait in hope, may all of us truly feel God’s overwhelming love every moment. Information about school cancellations due to weather: St. Pius X will announce its school closings over the television. The school closing is phoned into Channel 9. Channel 9 then distributes the information to the other local channels. Please look for “St. Pius X High School” when bad weather occurs. We will launch a SchoolReach message between 5:30 and 6:15a.m. On questionable days please do not leave your home until after 6:15am. Important facts regarding the SchoolReach system: If you do not wish to be called by SchoolReach, or you would like to designate a new number or add a number please contact Melanie Martin at [email protected] or 453-3450 x115. Sports & Activities Communication & School Closings Once again this year, we are using the School Reach telephone broadcast system to communicate with school families. This is the same system we have used in the past to notify families of school closings. We will continue to use School Reach for that purpose. In addition, provided that we have electricity, we will try to update the website on the homepage with the closing information. On special occasions, we may run our late start schedule rather than close. Most of the time when the school is closed for the day, there will be no extra-curricular practices scheduled either. Games will be at the discretion of the athletic director. Here's how the telephone system works: When used, the service will call all phone numbers in our parent contact lists and will deliver a recorded message from a school administrator. The service will deliver the message to both live answer and answering machines. No answers (phones ringing over 40 sec.) and busies will be automatically retried twice in fifteen minute intervals after the initial call. 1.Caller ID – The Call ID will display 816453-3450, which is the main number for SPX. 2.Live Answers: There is a short pause at the beginning of the message, usually just a few seconds. Answer your phone as you normally would “Hello” and hold for the message to begin. Multiple “Hello’s” will delay the message. Please inform all family members of this process who may answer you phone. 3.Answering Machines: The system will detect that your machine has answered and will play the recording to your machine. When registering for senior year, juniors shouldn’t sign up for just easy courses because that could hurt their chances for college admission and prevent them from being fully prepared for college coursework and career training programs. • Make a preliminary list of colleges and career options to investigate further. The Internet, high school counselor’s offices, and libraries are good resources for researching options. • Complete a college comparison worksheet. ACT offers a free junior year college planning checklist that can be downloaded. • Make plans to visit colleges next spring when classes are in session. • Create a record of academic and extracurricular activities. List all honors and clubs, athletics, and volunteer activities, including dates and notable achievements. A complete record will help when filling out applications in the months to come. • Register for the ACT test. Juniors should take the test by spring of their junior year. If not possible, they should plan to take it in the June or fall. ACT has free practice questions on the ACT website. Begin investigating grant and scholarship opportunities. Cafeteria News Parents, please continue to monitor lunch balances. Negative account emails are sent daily. If you would like to review transactions by receiving an email of account activity please contact Marcia Witherow at [email protected] Per school policy, any student with a negative lunch account is subject to having his/her Powerschool account locked at the semester end until payment is received.
