Building Update A Message from Monsignor
VOLUME 17
A Message from Monsignor
ISSUE 4
I take this opportunity to share with you news from Saint Pius X Catholic
School. After 18 years of dedicated service to the school, including that
of Principal and Assistant Principal, Anne Knapke will be moving to
Philadelphia with her family at the end of this school year. I want to thank
her for her invaluable service and collaboration over the years, creating a
competitive and excellent opportunity for Catholic education in Greensboro.
Saint Pius X Catholic School has made great strides under her leadership, and
we all owe her a debt of gratitude for staying and helping us as a member of
the Saint Pius X Parish Building Committee with the planning and design of
our new DeJoy Primary Education Center.
Her husband, Kris, accepted a position at
Comcast over a year and half ago, and
we are thankful for Kris’ commitment to
commuting back and forth to allow Anne
to help oversee the building project. Anne
has been appointed the new Principal of
Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary
in Spring House, PA. I wish, Kris, Anne,
Grace, and Annabel all the best in the
years to come.
I am pleased to announce after
an extended national search that I
Principal Anne Knapke will be have accepted the endorsement and

Administration from UNCG. Ann’s 20
years of educational leadership includes seven years as Assistant Principal at
Saint Pius X, as well as teaching at Holy Trinity Day School and Greensboro
Day School. Her family includes her husband, Chip, who is a Scientific
Visualization and Game Design teacher at Weaver Academy and her two
grown children James and Katherine.
I believe Ann will provide a smooth transition and continue our tradition of
excellence at Saint Pius X Catholic School. Please join me in congratulating
Ann on her new appointment. As a school community, we look forward to
continuing our ministry of faith-filled education under Ann’s direction.
With gratitude for your support and with every best wish I am

Building Update
Great progress has been
made on both buildings during
the last month. At the DeJoy
Primary Education Building, brick and
stone work has been completed, and all the
window frames have been installed with
only about 10% of the glass left to be put in
place. Inside, the ceiling grid has been hung
awaiting installation of the acoustical tiles.
The bathrooms have been tiled and the paint
priming finished. Work on the grading
continues as well as preparations to move
all the utility lines underground.
At the Simmons Parish Life Center, the
brick masons and stone layers have begun
work on the outside of the building. The
roofing insulation is finished and soon
shingles, much like those on the church,
will be installed. You might have noticed
a large crane on site a week ago. It was
needed to lift the large HVAC units onto the
roof. The electrical rough in is done and the
trash chute mechanism installed (no more
hauling trash out to the dumpster). Again
this month, we thank all those who are
working on our buildings, especially our site
superintendent and project manager who are
working hard to keep us on schedule and
within budget. Pray for the safety of all.
Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve,
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
And after this our exile, show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy
of the promises of Christ.
Amen.
This year’s Diocesan Support Appeal is well
underway. We would like to thank the 494 St. Pius
the Tenth parish families that have contributed to
this year’s campaign. So far, St. Pius X families
have pledged $158,311.62 which represents 94% of our goal of $169,206. If
you have not yet made a pledge, please give what you can to continue the good
work being done in our diocese. The DSA provides support for the more than 20
services Catholic Charities offers through the diocese, providing funds for the
Housing Ministry, Education Ministries, Multicultural Ministries, Eucharistic
Congress and Vocations. Envelopes are available in the pew or go to the website

Goodbye and God Bless
Someone once said, “If you want to hear God
laugh, tell Him your plans.” Lately, I was reminded
often of this quote.
My husband, Lucas, and I took a leap of faith when
we moved to Greensboro. We knew God would take
care of us since we were responding to His call to
serve His people at St. Pius X. Our plans were for
Lucas to get into a PA (Physician’s Assistant) program
in the area, and for me to enjoy my job as SPX Youth
Minister.
That was when God must have started to laugh,
because nothing turned out the way we had planned…
Not only did I enjoy my job, I fell in love with it. Our
welcome into the parish was more like an adoption
into a family. The many friends we made quickly
became authentic and Christ-centered. Lucas did end Chelsea and Lucas Evett (top left) with the Youth Breakout group in April.
up getting into a PA program, but one that is 956 miles
away in Iowa!
My hometown is where Lucas’ school is located, only a few minutes from my family. Baby Evett is expected to arrive on
August 21 (the feast day of Saint Pius X!). After months of confusion, tears, prayers and finally surrender, we have decided to
move to Iowa at the end of June.
This decision is bittersweet. God truly gave us a second home at St. Pius X. Our time has been so blessed and you have a
very special place in my heart. Please know that I will miss you dearly. This parish has taught me so much about Christ and
His love.
Please know of my constant prayers for you. God has such great plans for you; this is so evident in the abundance of grace
and receptiveness to the Holy Spirit in this parish.
May God bless you. Love, Chelsea
Know Someone
Interested in the
Catholic Faith?
Has someone close to you asked
questions about the Catholic faith? Do
you have family members, friends or coworkers who have mentioned they would
like to explore the teachings or practices
of the Church? If so, invite those people
to consider the RCIA process at St. Pius
X.
The good news is that they don’t
even have to wait. We have a significant
number of people who want to begin
asking questions and journeying closer to
Jesus. Because this group is excited to get
started, we will begin in mid-May. If you
know someone who would benefit from
asking questions and taking this journey,
encourage them to contact Derek Rotty,
Director of Faith Formation: 272-4681 or
[email protected].
Season of Sacraments
Derek Rotty, Director of Faith Formation
April and May are the season for sacraments! Even at the Easter Vigil
and Easter Sunday Masses (which were at the end of March), our parish
community celebrated Baptisms, Confirmations and First Holy Communions.
During those months, we have hosted or will host five weddings, seven
children have been baptized, and four more Baptisms are scheduled. On
Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 29 families will celebrate the First Holy
Communion with 75 children. On Saturday, May 14, 84 middle- and highschool youth will receive Confirmation, the Sacrament of Christian Maturity.
Even at Pentecost, on May 15, one parishioner will complete her initiation
with Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.
These are exciting times for these children, teens and adults! These are
also exciting times for our parish, which continues to find amazing ways to
show the love of Christ to the community around us. Whether they are new
to the faith, or whether they are beginning a new family life in Christ, we ask
you keep them in your prayers during the Easter season. If you know some of
them, offer your heart-felt congratulations. Let’s share the good news that the
Body of Christ is alive, growing and thriving!

Have you heard your fellow
parishioners talk about Jubilee and
wondered what it’s about? It’s
time you experience it yourself!
The Holy Spirit is calling you to
know yourself, your Church, and
others in a deeper way. Jubilee
offers times for solitude (prayer,
reflection, chapel, nature walks,
healing); it provides times for interacting with fellow
parishioners (sharing meals, Mass, music, fun, activities,
party, laughter). Jubilee educates, enlightens and offers
peace. It feeds and reinforces faith and personal lives.
The reservation form is available online at www.
stpiusxnc.com under the LEARN tab. Go to the drop
down FOR ADULTS and Jubilee is listed. The forms are
also available in the parish office. Restore your spirit in
this year of mercy!
If you have questions, contact Shannon Dahlstedt at
