Shop Streamwood!
Shopping locally is an easy and effective way to help support our business
community. Local businesses reinvest in the community through jobs and support services. Sales tax from local purchases help offset the Village‘s reliance
on property taxes.
Recent Board Actions
Memorial Tree Planted
The Village Board planted a tree at the
entrance to the Veterans Memorial dedicated
to their friend and colleague, Trustee Guy
Patterson. Trustee Patterson served as Village
Trustee from 2007-2016. Prior to his service
on the Village Board, he was a Streamwood
Park District Commissioner, including serving
as Board President, from 1999-2007
Police Promotion
The Village Board was pleased to recognize
the promotion of Michael Schwartz from
patrol officer to Sergeant at a recent Board
meeting. Sergeant Schwartz grew up in
Streamwood, and has been a member of the
department since 2001. Congratulations!
Park Avenue Roadwork
The Village Board authorized
the use of Motor Fuel Tax
funds and accepted grant
funding for the reconstruction
and repair of Park Avenue. Work includes repairing the water main, from Library Lane to Lake
Street, and repairing the roadway from Irving
Park Road to Lake Street. The entire project is
expected to be completed by September.
Business E-News Launched
The Village has recently launched an informational electronic newsletter geared toward our business
community. The Streamwood Business E-News is similar to our regular Streamwood E-News.
While our Streamwood E-News provides information on local events and important information for residents, our Business E-News is intended to provide businesses with information on programs that may
be of benefit to local businesses and to suggest opportunities to gain greater exposure through community involvement.
If you’d like to be added to our listing for the Streamwood Business E-News, please email
[email protected]. If you’d like to receive a copy of the Streamwood E-News, visit our website at
www.streamwood.org.
Community Events Photo Gallery
The Village has photographs taken at many, if not all, of our events. We are happy to announce the addition of a community event photo gallery to our Village website. Now you can go to
http://www.streamwood.org/Community/Community-Events-Photo-Gallery.aspx and
check out the pictures from our most recent events. We will add new photos monthly, so come back to
the website often!
Elgin O’Hare I-390 Cashless Tolling
Beginning Tuesday, July 5, cashless tolling will be in effect on the Illinois Route 390
Tollway from Lake Street to I-290. This is the first all-electronic roadway on the Illinois
Tollway system. The cost of tolls on I-390 Tollway are lower because they are assessed
more frequently than other parts of the Tollway system. However, the rates vary, depending on the use of an I-Pass, or paying online. For example, using an I-Pass for cars and motorcycles is
$0.30; paying on line is $0.60. You can save money by picking up an I-Pass at our local Jewel-Osco location
at 217 Irving Park Rd. For more information, visit www.illinoistollway.com or call1-800-UC-IPASS.
DARE Graduations
5th grade students from Heritage, Parkwood, Hanover Countryside and Hilltop Elementary graduated from
the D.A.R.E. - ‘Keepin’ it REAL,' program. The ‘Keepin’ it REAL’ program takes a hands-on, social influence
approach that emphasizes and aims to strengthen children’s refusal skills so they can better resist social
pressures to try or to use drugs. The program builds communication and decision-making skills, and allows
children to rehearse learned strategies through role play with fellow students. (continued on page 3)
Board News
Pace Bus Changes
The Village Board reported that Pace is changing
their boarding process
system-wide. In the
interest of public safety, Pace customers will only
be allowed to board buses at designated boarding
stops. This change includes all stops on Route
554, which serves Streamwood. No other service
changes are proposed for Route 554.
If you would like to get familiar with the businesses within our community, you
can access our local business directory by visiting www.streamwood.org and
click ‘Shop Streamwood’ under the Business section, or download the app for your smartphone. You can get it
from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or our QR code. Shopping locally has never been easier!

DARE Graduations
Message From The Village President
(continued from page 2)
I would like to dedicate this month’s
message to the memory of our dear
friend and esteemed colleague – Guy
A. Patterson, Village Trustee 20072016. Guy passed away on Sunday,
June 5, and I would be remiss if I did
not share with you just how special of
a man he was.
At the June 2 Village Board Meeting,
DARE Officers, Ed
Polaski and Matt
Stastny, provided
the
Board
Members with an
overall presentation of the year’s
DARE program,
and introduced
two students, who
were selected to
read their DARE graduation essays –
Langdon Downing of Sunnydale, and
Sarah Mills from Hilltop. Students from
St. John the
Evangelist
entertained the
Board with
songs, stories,
and plenty of
dancing!
There comes a time in everyone’s life
when the thought of our own mortality
becomes heightened. The “I’m not worried about tomorrow, so I’m going to
have fun and live for today” attitude of
our youth, tends to be taken over with
the thoughts of “I want to leave behind
Village President Billie D. Roth and
a meaningful, memorable legacy” of
Trustee Guy A. Patterson
adulthood. Once in a while, however
we run across people who don’t think about their life in those terms. These special people
go through life concerned only about doing the right thing, about making the world a better place, and not concerned in the slightest about the way others judge or misjudge them.
Guy Patterson was a one of these special people. You may
not have always agreed with Guy, but there was never,
ever any doubt that Guy approached every decision, every
challenge in terms of what he thought was best for everyone, not what was best for him. He may not have got it
right every single time – nobody does – but I’m sure he
got it right the vast majority of times and that he
approached every decision from an unselfish, service-oriented perspective.
DECA/HOSA Recognitions
Every year, Streamwood High School has a select group of students who participate in two distinctive core education programs – Distributive Education Clubs
of America – known as “DECA” and – Health Occupations Students of
America – known as “HOSA.” This
year, 16 accomplished students were
recognized at the May 19 Board
Meeting – for the DECA program Adam Bajorek, Mitchell Bendis,
Jeriann Gumila, Andrew John Knox,
Ian Lopez, and Lukas Woerner;
and for the HOSA program Mahhum Ahmed, Jasmine Che,
Sarah Fannin, Daniela Garfias,
Ravi Ghayal, Renee Harder, Noemi
Hernandez, Shraddha Patel,
Roshni Patel, and Theresa Zepeda.
Of course, the success of these student programs would not be complete without
the encouragement, leadership and dedication of the Streamwood High School
educators: Dr. Patrick Doranski, and Ms. Valerie Putek for HOSA, and Mr. David
Nickoley, a dedicated Advisor for Illinois DECA for the past 22 years, and a wellrespected educator at Streamwood High School. Mr. Nickoley has retired at the
end of this school year. Our best wishes to both students and faculty.
Guy reveled in life. It’s almost impossible to find a picture of Guy in which he
is not smiling, and that smile is never
forced, but is rather the genuine,
heartfelt grin of someone who took
infinite joy in family, friends and life
itself. Words like “gentle” and “good
natured” do not come near to describing Guy Patterson. He approached life
and everyone in it calmly, thoughtfully and, above all, kindly.
Guy Patterson
Guy Patterson’s family looks on as he is sworn
in as a Trustee in 2007
He served his nation and his community. He and Lori raised three wonderful daughters,
Amanda, Alexandra & Alyssa who have grown up to be amazing young women, triplets
who are anything but identical, but whose unique personalities and talents have led
each of them in their own special directions as adults.
During his lifetime Guy Patterson was a husband, father, a colleague, a helping hand, a mentor, and – to me and so many others – a friend. I feel privileged to have known and worked
with him and, like everyone whose lives he touched, I will miss him very, very much.
Sincerely,
Billie D. Roth, Village President

The 2016 Curbside Branch Pick-up program continues. The Village is divided into four areas. Please check
the map to determine your area. Each area is picked up only once per month.
Place your branches on the parkway with the cut ends facing the street, by 6:00 am on the designated
date for your area. Branches should be no greater than six inches (6”) in diameter, though they may be
any length.
Please remember – It is important to have your branches out Monday morning. Please be patient if
your branches are still at the curb Monday afternoon. They will be picked up during your pick-up week.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stop solicitors from coming
to my door?
A: Not really; however, you can discourage them by displaying a “No Solicitors”
decal. All solicitors registered through the
Village are instructed not to approach a
residence displaying a "No Solicitors" decal
(available for free through the Village
Clerk’s office). As it is with any door-todoor solicitor in Streamwood, all solicitors
must obtain and display a Village-issued
solicitor’s photo ID badge.
Please note: local school groups and Scout
troops are not required to obtain a solicitor
permit. Religious and political groups are
allowed by US Supreme Court ruling.
