January 2016 Tidings - Trinity Lutheran Church
January 2016
Trinity Lutheran Church and School
Dear Loved Ones in the Lord,
New Officer Installation At our Sunday Service, January 3 rd, we’ll have New
Officer Installation and consecration of those who continue to serve.
Thanks to those who are going off boards and have served this last term.
We so appreciate all who are willing to volunteer. We couldn’t do what
we do without you!
Dedication of Newly Remodeled Kitchen January 3rd Thanks to the efforts
of the Capital Improvement Committee, (and the contractor) the work is
complete on the kitchen. We would like to give thanks to God and
rededicate the kitchen on Sunday January 3rd. We’ll be inviting those in
attendance to come downstairs for “an inspection” and a treat as well.
Thanks to the Stewardship Board for hosting!
No New Year’s Eve Service The elders made the decision not to hold a
worship service on New Year’s Eve. The last couple of years attendance
has been declining for this service.
Bible Study and Sunday School The new cycle of Bible Study and Sunday
School will begin again Sunday January 10th. Hope you make it a priority
to come!
“Children's Church” Will continue during worship on the 2nd and
4th Sundays of each month when Trinity School children are singing.
Attendance and participation has been good so far. There seems to be
great enthusiasm from the kids and appreciation for parents who may be
able to better focus on worship and know that their children are
receiving an age appropriate lesson.
Vacancy Update – I continue to serve St. John’s, Battle Creek as vacancy
pastor. Our hope is to receive a list of potential candidates soon. I spend
Wednesday mornings there doing office work and having staff meetings a
couple times a month. I also attend the elder’s, council and voter’s
meetings. Our hope is that a call may be issued early in 2016.
Madison Ministerial -- buying the Food Pantry Building – We were able to
file the Articles of Incorporation in December and on the 14th were
deemed “A Nebraska Nonprofit” entity. Now we wait for our status as a
501c3 which is issued by the federal government. When this last step is
completed we will be able to complete the sale of the building. We are
in a process of appealing for funds for our share needed for the
completion of the Madison Downtown Revitalization project for which
we have already been approved. A grant has been received by the city of
Madison for businesses on Main Street who wish to participate. The
Food Pantry building was approved for this and will be able to receive a
facelift with the funds, if we are able to raise our portion, which is
$10,400. As of this writing we have raised $2,450. Also beginning in
January the Madison Ministerial is pleased to announce that Mr. Chad
McKown, a representative with Thrivent Financial will be renting part of

of our space at the Food Pantry. Don Knapp and others have been remodeling the front part of our
building for this purpose. On Monday-Friday it will function as a “Thrivent Office” on Saturdays it will
continue to offer the services of the Food Pantry to our community.
Happy New Year! May 2016 be a year in which you grow in knowing the Lord!

Finance Facts – a note from your Treasurer
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a joyous Christmas celebrating Christ’s birth surrounded by
family and friends.
As of December 28th, we are $35,000 in debt. This is a decrease of $30,000 from the end of last
month. We are moving in the right direction but still have work to do! I trust that God will help us
get our finances in order so we can continue to serve Him through our church and the mission of our
school.
Please prayerfully consider how you can help us eliminate this debt in the early months of 2016.
God’s Blessings to you all in the New Year!
Jennifer Zessin

Trinity Ladies’ Aid Meeting
Was December 17 for a CHRISTmas singalong at CSH. 25 guests and 9 members
were present. Ruth Oswald presented the
devotion/topic—reminding the group of Jesus
Saving Grace.
Laura Schmidt played the piano as Ruth lead
the singing of carols. Lunch was then served
by Laura, Deloris Zessin and Genene Sjuts.
The business meeting was opened by
President Margo Dawson. 9 members
answered roll by citing their favorite
Christmas carol.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read
and approved.
Treasurer Anne Blank gave her report.
Balance as of November 19, was $2,053.
Receipts totaled $134. Disbursements totaled
$1,575. December operating balance is $612.
The report was filed.
A ‘thank you’ was expressed to Linda
Godemann and Genene Sjuts for agreeing to
serve another term as Vice President and
Secretary respectively.
Margo reported on the labels to be put on the
kitchen cupboards. They were approved—
Margo and Linda will purchase them. Genene
reported that the silverware drawer dividers
will be installed when Don Knapp is finished
with his current project. Laura Schmidt
reported that the parsonage kitchen, laundry,
bath room, back porch and breezeway
flooring has been installed. She is very

pleased with it. She invited Ladies’ Aid to
meet at her house so that we might have
the opportunity to see it—February
meeting was suggested.
Last month’s $50 donation to the Lutheran
Hour was sufficient to cover the cost of
one broadcast—May will be the month it
will air.
Our January 2016 meeting will be held at
Bailey’s Norfolk—11:30 on Thursday,
January 21—meet at church at 11:00 for a
ride.
The service committee reported that 19
plates for 26 people had been given as
CHRISTmas gifts to shut-ins and some
church workers. Doug and Kathy McNerny
were admitted to CountrySide after
delivery—a plate will be made up for them.
A motion was made, seconded and carried
to give our monthly $50 donation to our
Youth Group for their upcoming trip.
Anne Blank will lead the devotion at our
Bailey’s luncheon.
Dorothy Schroeter had our only December
birthday.
We closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
Respectfully Submitted,
Genene Sjuts
Secretary

NEWS from our Trinity Lutheran Youth Group
January 2016
Monthly Meetings for All Trinity Lutheran Youth Grades 9-12
Youth will continue to meet on the first Sunday of each month from 6:30-8:00 P.M. A supper meal
will be provided each month so come hungry for good eats and hungry for fellowship and
discussions of how this group can share our faith with each other as well as others. Youth members
are encouraged to bring peers to any meeting or activity. Typically, meetings will be held at Trinity
Lutheran School. However, some months youth will meet elsewhere or have other activities
planned. We hope to see you all there! Please bring a friend or several friends!
Update on National Youth Gathering July 2016
Eleven youth and four adults are continuing to make plans to travel to New Orleans next summer.
Travel expenses will be this group’s biggest challenge but the reward of experiencing the national
convention will well outweigh the costs. If anyone is interested in helping these participants raise
funds, please contact any youth group leader or LeAnn at 992-0683. Any job is asked for including
cleaning, taking down Christmas decorations, shoveling snow, etc. Let us know how we can help!
All of us appreciate any and all support for this experience next summer!
Thank you and God’s Blessings! Karen Knapp, Amanda Siecke, and LeAnn Frauendorfer
