At that time, Jonathan Williams, a ten year Navy veteran, began the process of starting his own company. He decided to reach out to fellow veteran business owners to gain insight and input on operating a successful company. Jonathan quickly realized that there wasn’t a local association of veteran business owners, and this demographic was not captured or reported on any list or local database of business owners. Greetings fellow veteran business owners, Champion Partners, and Affiliate Members. My name is Jonathan Williams and I would like to welcome you to the Tennessee Veterans Business Association (TVBA) The founding and formation of our Association represents an historic event. Our great state of Tennessee is known as the “Volunteer State” but never before in the history of this great state has a non-profit membership trade league been so situated, and dedicated exclusively to the interests of veterans in business before now. The “conscience of commerce” must never forget that America’s great free enterprise system and our way of life isn’t free. It’s been bought and paid for in the hard life currency of sacrifice by the men and women who have served our Nation in military uniform. The pre-positioning and due diligence that has gone into crafting your Association has been substantial. Industrial, political and community alliances have been built with benefactors, patrons, and sponsors – well identified and supportive. To be sure, military veterans are everywhere mixed in the business of America. However, unlike many other interest groups at the tables of opportunity, risk, and reward – veterans are largely unknown for who we are, what we’ve done, and what we, as entrepreneurs aspire to be. Above all, it’s what we have to offer that matters most. In less than a half a generation military veterans as a population group will have plummeted. At the same time the population of the U.S. will have increased by a huge margin. Military veterans are on the downhill numeric curve as citizens of community and country. As a result, the number of veterans in business will likewise decline in proportion or worse. The landscape of our culture of commerce is driven by lobbies, interest groups and the powerful influences of major corporations which shape the course of economic events and our national policies. TVBA fully intends to engage in these realms to help foster greater awareness, patronage, and as appropriate – business opportunity preferences for veterans with our federal and state governments. Veterans in all walks of life have earned distinction by service to the country. TVBA is dedicated to the proposition that those who have borne the battle should be better recognized in the chambers of commerce. Commercium Pro Defensoribus…the time has come! Jonathan Williams, 2012 Chairman and Founder Tennessee Veterans Business Association 2 Through extensive research of federal databases, he was able to identify hundreds of veteran owned businesses in the East Tennessee Area and quickly decided to bring them together as one unified voice. Thus, the Tennessee Veterans Business Association was created. Our first meeting was held on February 21st, 2010 and since that time, we’ve grown to an active association that is very involved in the local community and beyond. Culture Our Philosophy Our mission is based upon the philosophy that our programs fulfill necessary, proper and valid public purposes by: • Promoting patriotism with no exception. • Recognizing and rewarding service and sacrifice to our great country. • Embracing the entrepreneurial spirit. • Assisting in the transition from the uniform to a business suit. • Providing a unified voice to the Tennessee business community, and in doing so serving the needs of present and future veteran business owners and job seekers. We are committed to helping all veterans succeed in the business world. Our Vision TVBA advocates the support of Tennessee’s veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses as one way for veterans to provide economic security and prosperity for their families and for the communities in which they live with dignity and honor. One Mission, One Goal, One Voice. Our Voice • Respect and honor in all aspects of our lives • Absolute integrity and honesty • Outstanding goods and services • Dedication to professional excellence • A “Can Do” spirit that instills confidence 3 founding board members founding board members Chairman: Director: Jonathan Williams is the founder and Chairman of the Tennessee Veterans Business Association. We have a special bond that is rarely captured in the business community, and never before have we been brought together to capitalize on our brotherhood. Veterans of the armed forces are represented in every walk of life in the United States. Veterans are a vital part of the nation’s population, the labor force, and the business sector. Veterans are an important group of entrepreneurs, and many veteran business owners have gained important skills from their active and reserve duty service that often are directly relevant to business ownership. We understand the value of leadership, teamwork, integrity, diversity, and overcoming adversity. Together. Veteran Business Owners are still serving America! With over 100 member companies ranging in size from one employee to 400 employees, the TVBA captures the essence of the veteran business owner. We offer an extensive list of benefits in order to fit the needs of its diverse membership. Our tiered benefits program allows members to join at various levels based on the benefits they would like to take advantage of, with annual memberships starting at $150. We offer something for every veteran in the business community. 10 Reasons to Join the TVBA 1. The TVBA provides your business with an affordable marketing platform. We emphasize the fact you are veteran owned, and your company is different for that reason. You understand service and sacrifice, and we make sure your customers know that. Our printed and on-line member directory will showcase your company to potential customers and teaming partners. We also help introduce you to similar companies that share your same mindset and values. 2. TVBA events offer you opportunities to network, learn, and market your business. We offer over 40 events a year for our members, ranging from monthly networking and social events, to educational sessions, political advocacy and annual meet and greet, dinners and special meetings with elected officials, as well as our main event: the Annual Business Expo held each January. Whether you are looking to connect with other area business people or looking to improve the way you do business, we have events that will suit your needs. 3. Help veterans in the job market. We understand that not every veteran is interested in starting a business. This is why we offer a veteran only resume database on our website, and help the job-seeker network with the business community. We also offer resume writing and job search assistance. 10 4. Mentorship and Business Start-up Assistance. When a veteran is looking to start a business, we can match them with a business owner in the same field. We have relationships with the TN Small Business Development Centers, SCORE, SBA, UT Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and financial institutions. 5. Government Advocacy By working together, we offer a unified voice in legislative matters that affect us. We have built strong relationships with local elected officials so that we can assist you with issues that impact your business. 6. A Clearing House for all veteran issues in business and beyond. The TVBA is strategically allied with the US Chamber, Knoxville Chamber, Oak Ridge Chamber, Innovation Valley Partners, University of Tennessee, and the Roane Alliance. We also have strong relationships with federal and state VA reps, veteran focused non-profits, local units and the East TN Military Affairs Council. 7. Get KNOWN on TNVeteranBIZ.com, our Printed Member Directory and Local Media. Our new interactive online membership directory launched in January 2012 and is quickly becoming a goto resource for information about Knoxville area veteran owned businesses. All TVBA members receive a promotional page and various interactive features are available dependent on the tiered benefit level a member decides upon. Members also have the ability to purchase add-on “bundles” to enhance their promotional page and maximize their opportunity with the website. Our Printed member directory is distributed throughout the business community. We ensure that every local government agency, prime contractor, and small business advocate have a copy. We have working relationships with every local paper and the Knoxville Business Journal. In essence, we help tell the story of your business. We collectively advertise the TVBA, which in turn helps your business gain exposure. 8. Join the region’s leading businesses, with an added investment, and become a Champion Partner. Champion Partner’s make a vital commitment to the growth of the TVBA through their enhanced investment. They also serve as key advisors, enjoy exclusive benefits, and maintain a close link to the organization. 9. Build working relationships with other like-minded business owners. We take advantage of the special bond that we all share; we understand the lingo, the language, the stories, and the camaraderie that can only come from wearing the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. We are special, we understand and embrace the brotherhood, and we help you build your network with companies that share the same stories as you. 10. No Risk. Just Results. Membership in the TVBA comes with a No Risk guarantee. If your involvement and benefits do not exceed your expectations in the first year, we will simply return your investment. That is how strongly we believe in the value of the TVBA’s benefits and services. We saw a need for software to aid government agencies and commercial facilities in tracking hazardous and radioactive waste streams. In response to this need, AttentionIT designed and developed the eMWaste® software suite. Ten years later, eMWaste® continues to set the bar for efficient environmental waste management and tracking. Having built a solid reputation throughout the United States, the company has grown to become the nation’s premier environmental software company, providing a unique ‘cradle to grave’ waste management solution for all waste streams and the company now services projects globally from locations in the US and the UK. We approach waste strategically Our time in the environmental waste management field exposed the root of these problems, and we responded with the development of an all-inclusive, easy to use, affordable and powerful management and tracking software-eMWaste®. We approach waste strategically. eMWaste® is a tool used from the point of waste generation to the point of disposal. Whatever your involvement in the waste process, eMWaste® can be customized for your particular needs. We offer an extensive support system to aid in eMWaste® implementation, as well as helping to advance your businesses core practices. eMWaste® is a proven tool, and we are proud of what our software can accomplish.
