Vet Brochure - Walton County Supervisor of Elections
We need your participation to make this valuable program a success. You may make copies of the biography form or this brochure and distribute them as you wish. PEACETIME OR WAR This program is open to all veterans who have honorably served in the Armed Forces during peacetime or wartime– or who are now serving. Veterans or family members may submit biography forms and photographs. Family members may submit forms for deceased, MIA, KIA, or POW veterans. I WANT YOU TO VOTE IN HONOR OF A VETERAN Completed biography forms should be returned to one of the addresses below. Confidential information included in the biography will be not be published. If you have any questions, Please Contact Ryan Messer or Bill Vorwald at 892-8112 or email [email protected]. Also visit our website at VoteWaltonCounty.com. It is not necessary that the Veteran be a Walton County resident; however, the veteran must have some connection to Walton County (via birth, past or pre sent residence, schooling, past or pre sent employment, or immediate family in residence.) The photographs on the inside of this brochure are just a few of the many we have received. We would like to have as many veteran photographs as possible displayed at our main office and the satellite office. Call the Elections Office at 892-8112 or 622-0744 for more information, or visit our website at WALTON COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS 571 U.S. HWY 90 EAST, SUITE 102 DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL 32433 PH (850) 892-8112 FAX (850) 892-8113 www.VoteWaltonCounty.com. The global war on terror, which includes Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, affects every American and continually reminds us of the freedoms we often take for granted—freedoms that our veterans fought for and freedoms that our military continues to fight to defend today. The sacrifices our veterans have made on behalf of this great state and nation stand as examples that emphasize the need for us to take our responsibilities seriously, especially our right to vote. The Walton County Supervisor of Elections is pleased to announce the Vote in Honor of a Veteran program The program is not new around the state and country. Several other Florida counties and other states have variations of this program that are tailored to fit the needs in their communities. The goal of our program is to recognize our veterans by encouraging voter participation among the entire voting population. By exercising our right to vote, we show veterans the respect they deserve for protecting our freedoms. HERE’S HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS Veterans and family members of veterans who wish to participate will complete and submit a photo and a short biography on a biography form. The form may be completed by the veteran or by a family member of a veteran. (The photograph will be scanned into our computer while you wait, or you may return later to pick it up.) There is no cost to participate. On election day, or during early voting, anyone who desires to vote in honor of a veteran will receive a special sticker that states: “My Vote Honors Veteran_______”. You have the option of putting any veteran’s name on the sticker, whether the veteran is on our wall or not. All Walton County voters are encouraged to Vote In Honor of a Veteran. It is not necessary to be related to a veteran to vote in honor of one. We hope to personalize the voting experience for everyone and show our gratitude to those who have given so much to us all so we may continue to live in freedom and exercise our right to vote. VETERANS HONOR WALL The wall on the first floor of the Walton County Courthouse has been designated as our Veterans Honor Wall, and each veteran’s photograph that is submitted will be posted on the wall. A directory is available to assist in finding a veteran’s photo. Veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice will be honored in a special location.
