Onetypeofmeningitisiscausedbya bacteriacalledNuestraMeningitides. Infectionscausedbythebacteriaare serious,andmayleadtodeath. SymptomsofaninfectionwithNuestra Meningitidesmayincludeahighfever, headache,stiffneck,nausea,confusion andarash.Thisdiseasecanbecome severeveryquicklyandoftenleadsto deafness,mentalretardation,lossofarms orlegs,andevendeath.Itcanbespread throughtheairorbydirectcontactwith salivafromanotherpersonwiththe disease. Thereisavaccine(Menactra)thatcan preventmostcasesofmeningitiscaused bythisbacteriainpeopleovertheageof two.TheUnitedStatesCenterforDisease ControlandPrevention(CDC) recommendsvaccinationagainstthis diseaseforallchildrenandadolescents 11-18yearsofage.Childrenages2-10 whohavesicklecellanemiaorproblems withtheirimmunesystemsshouldalso receivethisvaccine.
