REGISTRATION BROCHURE THE TRADE SHOW SPONSORED BY THE NATIONAL NEEDLEARTS ASSOCIATION May 30 – June 1, 2015 Greater Columbus Convention Center • Columbus, OH www.TNNA.org TNNA IS CELEBRATING – CELEBRATE WITH US! 2015 marks 40 years of TNNA serving the needlearts industry and a celebration wouldn’t be complete without our members and industry partners there. Members from all specialties – counted thread, crochet, embroidery, knitting, needlepoint, spinning and weaving – are what make TNNA the largest needlearts trade association in the world. The celebration will be held in Columbus, Ohio – the 15th Largest City in the U.S. Columbus is well known to TNNA supporters with its walkable convention center destinations (hip galleries, shops, dining, nightlife, sports and hotels). Columbus is within 550 miles of half of the nation’s population, as supported by the popular Port Columbus International Airport located 10 minutes from downtown offering over 30 non-stop destinations. The benefits of professional networking continue to be highly valued by independent retailers world-wide. Attending TNNA events is a great way to make that happen for your business. The fun starts on Thursday evening with the Building Better Business mixer and continues during the day on Friday with the Building Better Business program. We will wrap up Friday with inspiring events in the evening such as the Fashion Show, Sample IT! and Needlepoint Showcase. You will not want to miss these opportunities to not only network but have fun with your needlearts industry colleagues. Of course, you’ll have an opportunity to meet with suppliers to see and buy their latest products, learn the latest trends, and take classes from industry experts. Discover ways to maximize your learning; transforming it from intellectual knowledge into an actionable plan. Along the way, meet your teachers and facilitators for the day and begin the networking that makes this day incredibly valuable. Attending classes is not enough. Make the most of your investment and learn how to turn new information into transformative practices for your business. 6 TRACK 1: BUSINESS NUTS & BOLTS Tools for Successful Inventory Management – (First Session) Patty Lyons Inventory control is the secret to healthy cash flow and a happy store. But inventory control is so much more than “what should I buy.” In this class we’ll explore the information every retailer needs to get from their business before they can understand best buying practices. We’ll explore what your POS can / should be telling you, sales reporting, taking inventory and cycle counts, as well as basics of sales projections. We’ll look at the top 5 secrets to improving your inventory turn, and finally we’ll put it all together to explore strategies you can employ on the TNNA sales floor and when you get back to your shop. Make this year the year of inventory control! Build a Super Selling Staff – (Second Session) Patty Lyons Whether you have a staff of one or one hundred, customer service training is one of the most important, yet most often overlooked tools in small retail. We all know great word of mouth is vital in order to thrive, not just survive, in the “age of the customer.” Learn the best practices for a wildly successful staff, as well as best tools for damage control in emergencies. We will explore the top dos and don’ts in retail customer service. Learn the secret to under-promising and over-delivering and watch your sales soar! Top Shop Operations – (Third Session) Judith Carter Retailers are busy folks, from ordering inventory to researching market trends to merchandising displays to training staff and planning in-store events to scheduling online marketing and more. Running a retail business means constantly having something to do. With this in mind, successful retailers recognize the value in scheduling what is necessary to do and eliminating what is not. While some responsibilities are more enjoyable than others, all responsibilities should be prioritized to effectively run a successful shop. Learn how to prioritize and schedule your activities and deadlines to help you stay focused and on schedule. TRACK 2: MASTERING MARKETING Digital Marketing Planner – (First Session) Zontee Hou Store/business owners, designers and teachers will all benefit from learning how to take control of their digital marketing presences. We will explore the basics of digital marketing, the uses for various social media channels and the reasons that digital is the key component of a modern marketing plan. Find out which platforms you will need in your digital marketing portfolio, when to pay for advertising/exposure and how to build content strategies for the different audiences you might cultivate on various social media channels. We will focus on goalidentification and goal-setting as a major component of marketing strategy. This class will also teach you the tools you will need to audit your existing digital and social media presence so that you can identify areas that need improvement and help you create a game plan for when you return home. Powerful Promotional Marketing – (Second Session) Judith Carter Are you planning a marketing campaign for your brick and mortar store? Join us and learn how to set the objectives and plan the incentives. Learn valuable strategies in how to set goals and measure results. Be an industry leader in growing your customer base and enhancing your business! Copy That Sells – (Third Session) Liz Gipson Despite all the advances in social media, newsletters are still the single most effective way to drive sales. What does your newsletter say about your business? Does it say this is a friendly, well-organized place with knowledgeable people or does it say, “I just had to get this out the door.” In Copy That Sells, we'll walk through the best practices for newsletter publishing including layout, copy that does its job, and visuals that don't just take up space. This information is also relevant to your blog and social media posts. continued on page 8 7 TRACK 3: TECHNOLOGY Textile Photography – (First Session) Kellie Nuss Kellie, an established professional photographer with a lifetime of experience in textile arts, will walk you through the VERY BASICS of good light and composition so you can capture pleasing images of your textiles. Through a slideshow format, students will see examples and learn techniques for improving any kind of photography, regardless of your experience. Product photography, artistic detail photos and straightforward informational images will be discussed. This is not a technical photography class. It will present practical steps and simple procedures for anyone who wants/needs to take better photos for patterns, marketing or submissions, with any experience and access to any kind of camera. Social Media Tool Kit – (Second Session) Zontee Hou Social media marketing can be a cost-effective way to improve your reputation and reach in the marketplace. However, it can also be very time-consuming to do well. Short of hiring an entire digital marketing team, small businesses can still streamline and improve their social media efforts. In this class, we explore a variety of cost-effective tools that are now on the marketplace. From metrics and reporting to contests and content curation, we will take a look at the best of digital marketing tools currently available for small businesses. Plus, we will examine the questions and considerations business owners should keep in mind when looking at new tools. Investing in Technology – the Questions to Ask – (Third Session) Gwen Bortner Whether investing in mail list management services, point-of-sale systems, computers or cell phones, technology decisions have become a regular, recurring activity. And for most of us, these purchases (particularly when they are large financial investments) create an undue amount of stress. Although we can’t promise to eliminate your stress, we can help you ask the “right” questions to help ensure your decisions are the best they can be. As a former business consultant focusing on information technology, Gwen understands the challenges of selecting technology, the importance of making a good decision and the key questions that should be asked and answered for every technology purchase. Learn what homework you need to do up front, what questions to ask every time and how to prioritize your requirements. Investing in technology doesn’t have to be so stressful; you just need to ask the right questions! NEW IN COLUMBUS SUNDAY, MAY 31 Building Better Business Labs for registered BBB attendees ONLY.
