Motorcycle Safety Campaign Winner Announced
$1,000 in motorcycle gear or service goes to Glenburn rider
MINOT, N.D. - The North Dakota chapter of American Bikers Aiming Towards Education (ABATE),
has announced the winner of a drawing held in conjunction with a motorcycle safety campaign
developed by the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Joseph Kliebert of Glenburn, ND, is the
winner of a grand prize valued at $1,000. He will receive his choice in motorcycle safety gear,
accessories or service with the costs covered by ABATE ND.
Kliebert was selected at random from among 648 motorcycle riders who responded to a summer-long
motorcycle safety survey. The survey asked North Dakota riders for their opinions about rider safety.
ABATE contributed the grand prize to encourage participation in the survey.
Lonnie Bertsch, assistant executive director of ABATE ND, presented Kliebert with his prize and the
two spent some time looking at the various items Kliebert could take home. Joseph Kliebert, who
operates his own small business in Glenburn, expressed his appreciation.
“I’m grateful to ABATE for this generous gift; it’ll be fun getting my ride updated and a little more
tricked out. I’m a strong believer in sharing the road safely, so I’m happy to be part of that message
too,” Kliebert said.
“ABATE has enjoyed a long-time partnership with the North Dakota Department of Transportation, so
we welcomed an opportunity to support NDDOT’s effort to get input directly from the motorcycle riders
who are on North Dakota roads,” said Michael Jay, executive director of ABATE ND. “These are the
people we are here to serve.”
ABATE’s main goal is to promote motorcycle safety, awareness, and training. ABATE ND and the
North Dakota Department of Transportation work together to promote rider training classes through the
North Dakota Motorcycle Safety Program.
The survey drawing also awarded additional prizes, including a Code for the Road leather jacket won by
Malissa Pulkrabek of Mandan, ND.
The number of registered motorcycles in North Dakota has increased 234 percent in the last ten years.
