Tra i l e r s
As the pioneer of the refrigerated trailer industry, Great Dane has always been first to develop revolutionary products. In the
early forties we built the first produce van with a wet ice bunker and a gas engine and blower system, which was soon followed by the
first factory finished refrigerated trailer. The Great Dane reefer, as this type of trailer came to be known, has never relinquished its leadership.
We have continued to make significant strides in the manufacturing and performance of refrigerated trailers, using our customers' needs as
the building blocks for the design of reefer technology.
With the finest, most knowledgeable engineering staff and the most sophisticated research and design facility, we are making
sure you own the most dependable and longest lasting trailer. You can count on Great Dane. Today and down the road.

CLASSIC REEFER STANDARD FEATURES
INSULATION
Great Dane reefers have no metal-to-metal contact from the
interior to the exterior of the floor, wall and ceiling. A computercontrolled urethane injection process insulates sidewall and
roof modular components while in a temperature controlled
press ensuring flat, void-free, bonded applications. Each
modular roof or wall structure is preheated, injected with
urethane while in the press and then fully cured. When these
panels are removed, the sealed panel injection process results

in a thermally efficient, precisely flat void-free structure.
Great Dane's foaming process provides flat, smooth walls and ceilings. Seamless composite liners seal moisture out of the insulation
and assure a clean environment for cargo. A standard 14" high corrugated extruded aluminum integral scuffband extends full length
to the front wall. A variety of scuffband materials including aluminum, plastics and composites as well as optional heights of 22"
and heavy-duty 14" and 22" scuffbands are available. A wide variety of extruded aluminum floors are available in standard and
heavy-duty ratings, as well as, standard and slip-resistant surfaces. A full-width rear gutter with dual drains is standard.
ROOF SHEET PROTECTION
A one-piece .040" aluminum roof sheet is standard. The top rail roof flange is recessed from the trailer side to prevent snags and
abrasions. A double-face, sealing tape is applied between the top rail flange and the roof sheet. An extruded aluminum "J" molding
covers the joint. Rivets on 2" centers securely compress the roof cap, roof sheet and the top rail joint. Finally, a liberal coating of
neoprene is applied over the rivet heads to further ensure a watertight seal. No other roof system provides this degree of protection.

REEFER FLOOR SYSTEM
Great Dane offers a wide selection of floor options, all based
on a time proven design. These serviceable floors can be easily
cleaned and all joints are welded full length to be watertight.
Heavy-duty crossmembers are located on 12" centers and
provide excellent support. Apitong hardwood is used as floor
sills installed full length to provide extra support for the floor.
Extruded aluminum I-beam inserts reinforce the center 72" of
the rearmost 42" of floor ducts.
SUPERIOR FRONT-END STRENGTH
ELECTRICAL CONDUIT
Puncture-resistant 6" radius corners of .050" aluminum join the sides to the front wall. The lower area is further protected by an 8.5" deep extruded
aluminum impact plate that wraps around the corners to meet the bottom rails. This aluminum extrusion will not rust, never needs paint and protects this vulnerable area from damage caused by tractor fifth wheels. Six 2" deep extruded aluminum Z-post uprights provide a rigid frame work for
the front sheets. They are riveted on 2" centers at sheet laps, bonding the entire front together for maximum strength. Air and electrical connections
are mounted externally for easy access and reduced maintenance. A fully-welded extruded aluminum cooling unit frame is corrosion-resistant.

CLASSIC REEFER STANDARD FEATURES
CROSSMEMBERS
Crossmembers in the bay area, located between the landing gear
and the running gear, are 5" deep, high-strength, extruded aluminum I-beams. This extra inch of height contributes to a higher
live-axle floor rating and provides a stiffer and stronger crossmember without increasing weight. Four-inch steel, I-beam
crossmembers are used over the support gear bracing and over
the running gear. Four-inch aluminum crossmembers are used
from the landing gear bracing forward. All crossmembers are on
12" centers as standard for increased strength and longer life.
STURDY REAR FRAME
The durable comb-style rear frame is specially designed and constructed of rustproof satin-finish stainless steel. All hinges, lock
rods and door hardware are fully recessed within the 2” deep door posts. When closed, doors are completely restrained within
the protection of the rear frame, even if hinges are damaged or removed. A 4" rear header with integral drip molding diverts water
to the sides. All lights are fully recessed and securely protected within the welded buckplate. Rubber dock bumpers are standard
for impact support and door hardware protection.

THERMOGUARD IS THE ONLY LINER THAT HELPS MAINTAIN
INSULATION PERFORMANCE FOR THE LIFE OF THE TRAILER.
The benefits of ThermoGuard lining are remarkable!
ThermoGuard is a glass-reinforced, thermoplastic liner exclusively made for use
as original equipment on Great Dane refrigerated trailers. This strong, yet lightweight lining is superior to the traditional liners that are used in the majority of
reefers because ThermoGuard helps maintain the thermal efficiency of the trailer.
