Reach for the Stars 2008 Auction Catalog Chase - Kindergarten Presented by the K.W. Barrett Elementary School PTA Friday, April 11, 2008 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm NRECA Conference Center Arlington, Virginia 2 Thank you for joining us as we help Barrett students and teachers “Reach for the Stars!” Welcome to Barrett Elementary’s Silent Auction for 2008! We are pleased to invite you to our community of learning and discovery. Our event this evening is the culmination of months of effort by parents and teachers. Our goal is to raise funds to purchase SMART Board technology for every Barrett classroom. SMART Boards allow teachers to project computer screens onto interactive whiteboards. This technology engages our students, encourages critical thinking, and fosters communication. It is an innovative resource that has no bounds. Truly the “hands on” learning tool of the 21st century! As most of you already know, Barrett’s academic program focuses on science, math, and the arts. In addition to our distinction as a NASA Explorer School, Barrett has other wonderful programs made possible through grants that our teachers and administrators pursue on our children’s behalf. The latest technology helps the imaginations of our young scientists and writers to take off as they interact with NASA, produce live TV and animation, and present research projects. As you’ll see from this catalogue, our dedicated team of parents and teachers—all volunteers—have assembled an impressive array of auction items. They’ve reached out to our immediate community and beyond to offer something for every taste. We can’t thank them enough for this tremendous effort. This is one of our most ambitious fundraising efforts ever as a PTA and community. We owe it all to the Auction Committee’s outstanding teamwork and organization. As always at Barrett, parents came together and created something amazing that will benefit our kids. Please enjoy the food and drink, get to know our parents and staff, and browse through this wide-ranging selection of gifts, services, and other tempting items. As you bid to treat yourself, family, or friends to something special, just think of Barrett’s young minds, poised at their SMART Boards doing what they and their teachers do each day: discovering, creating, laughing, and learning. Thank you so much for coming. Our success depends on you. You can make a difference in your child’s educational opportunities! Melanie Wilhelm, PTA President Karen Hildebrand, Auction Chair 3 Kate – Grade 3 4 Thank you! To the Auction Committee members—Elizabeth Alves, Nina Austin, Rachael Bauer, Nancy Birnbaum, Irene Chen, Andrea Donovan, Bev Johnston, Allison Kennett, Jennifer Klapper, Suzanne Manlove, Sylvia Orli, Connie Sherman-Pollard, Ashley Rischard, Katherine Roberts, Robb and Betsy Severn, Nena Shaw, and Andy and Tamar Stanley—for their enthusiasm and dedication to the event and their patience with last-minute changes and challenges.
