Tuberculosis is a curable disease, but unfortunately it still remains a public health problem
in more than 100 countries. World TB Day is important to raise awareness of the fact that
tuberculosis is an epidemic that continues to cause nearly 1.5 million deaths worldwide
each year, mainly in the developing countries.
24 March 2015 - the day to change gear and speed up global efforts to end TB altogether.
On the occasion of World TB Day on March 24, 2016 and under the theme of "Unite to
End TB" Taj Clinics & Diagnostics in collaboration with Tabeer (NGO) organized a Walk to
raise awareness in the community for the cause. This walk covered a distance of more
than 3 km on the main Rashid Minhas Road of Karachi. We received a very encouraging
response from the public, some of whom joined us in the walk.
We also organized a free Tuberculosis clinic under the guidance of Chest Consultant Dr.
Syed Fasihuddin. His colleague Dr. Mohammed Afzal Memon, a Chest Physician, general
medical officer Dr. Nausheen and staff nurse Ambreen Sadiq supported him in the clinic.
We saw 50 patients in this free clinic. Free laboratory tests for sputum and blood were
executed and free Chest X-rays were done. We also prescribed free TB treatment to the
patients.
Dr Syed Fasihuddin with Dr Mohammad Afzal Memon attended Pakistan Chestcon 2016
in Lahore, Pakistan on April 7-10, 2016 representing the Taj Clinics and Diagnostics. They
attended the lectures and presentations on management and eradication of Tuberculosis
and visited the stall of Stop TB Pakistan.
Dr. Syed Fasihuddin also participated in a live show on 101 Radio Pakistan. This live radio
show was specifically aimed at raising awareness on Tuberculosis in the community. He
responded with explanations to many live callers inquiring about Tuberculosis, its
prevention, diagnosis, treatment and updates about the programs to end TB in Pakistan.
