Hazell Dean rocked and I managed to get an interview with her for my radio show when she’d finished gigging the Gauger, so thank you Ross and the team for that – it’s great to see that someone is doing something positive for the gay scene in Dundee, and to bring Hazell Dean to the city was quite a mean feat – I certainly appreciate it! Another person who’s doing positive things for our scene is Joey Dunn, who’s just announced the launch date of our very own magazine for the City of Discovery, Gossip! And after a whole month of being out on the lash celebrating my birthday, I’d planned to stay in for a week or two to try and recover, but oh no, there’s too much going on – and you know what they say, snooze, you lose! The first date for your diary is 8th May, Joey will be launching Gossip! - the new gay magazine for Dundee in Brooks Bar It promises to be a great night and Joey’s organised some cracking entertainment for the evening – be there, or be square! Another night in Brooks that’s going to be a hoot is 21st May, Miss Lexie Lush will be keeping you all on your toes with her witty banter – don’t forget, Brooks won’t charge you to get in to see a drag queen. Nor do Brooks charge you to see another queen, Queen Suzie of Karaoke – I’ve been there for the past few Thursdays, where I’ve had a good old ripping from Suzie – I LOVE IT! Maybe one night she’ll manage to get me to sing, either way, come along – it’s a brilliant night. Jon Quipp [email protected] REASONSWHYYOUNEEDA GAYSOLICITOR #OMFORTABLEANDCONlDENTIALENVIRONMENT 2 ESPECTFORYOUANDYOURRELATIONSHIPS 2ECOGNITIONTHATWEHAVESOMEDIFFERENTNEEDS !GATEWAYTOOTHERGAYSOLICITORSWHOCANHELP INSPECIALISTAREAS !T-($WEHAVEANAWARDWINNINGTEAM Don’t forget to check out Brooks Karaoke/Quiz nights, there’s always a smashing prize – you can check out the details on their facebook page. Just caught up with Tony from the Gauger, isn’t he just a ray of sunshine – I love that boy! As well as being open everyday nice and early, check out the Gauger on the last weekend of every month, Scarlett Diamonte will be there with DJ Ross on the decks, and there’s talk of the Gauger pub quiz starting in the next few weeks, pub quiz on a Sun night? YES PLEASE! After you’ve given your brain a workout, you might want to check out the new gay night Sungaze at the Underground. Each week there’s a different theme – so get your dressing up boxes dusted down! So far we’ve had Army, Lady Gaga, Playboy Bunnies and Cowboy/Cowgirl to name but a few. I’ve not managed to check it out yet – but I’ll be heading there this weekend – I’ll let you know how I get on! Make sure you head to Out Nightclub on a Wed night – Wicked Wednesdays - and wicked it is, it’s an absolute steal to get in and they’ll even hang up your coat for free! I had a week pub crawl on Thu, went to out and DJ Jan was there, pumping out all the best tuneage – what a way to end a drunken weeknight. Fri and Sat nights are definitely the busiest nights in Out, DJ Dean on the decks offering up the BEST music in Dundee, if you like your camp/dance/upfront mishmash, then make sure you make it Out! If you’re after a wee steam or a workout in Dundee, then check out Jocks Sauna, Dundee’s ONLY gay health club, you’ll find your sauna, steam room, gym and the usual stuff you’d expect to find in an upmarket health club – maybe even a wee bit more! Check out their website, www.jockssauna.co.uk for their latest offers and happenings. As always, if you can’t be good, be careful, and if you’re looking to talk to someone, meet new people – check out Diversitay – Dundee and Tayside’s LGBT group, www.diversitay.org.uk, and look out for the Hepatitis Information Bus, it’ll be in Dundee on 18th May at the Caird Hall from 2pm, offering you advice, support and information about Hepatitis. For another month, over and out! Hell's bells I am back again, so fed up of the sound of my own voice and inane ramblings at the moment and to be honest you don’t help much. Here I am pouring my heart and thoughts out and there is you, doing your Silent Bob routine as per bloody usual… I honestly don’t know why I bother with you sometimes! Only joking, you know I love you. Also you now know I tell lies and talk to myself. Anyhoo back to the main focus as to keep the men in white coats away from the door. Glasgow gay scene as always is kicking and whilst we are indeed warming up for our Pride there are still plenty of goings on to keep you well going! Starting off with something brand spanking new for the ladies... Ruby Fruit is a new alternative gay night for women here in Glasgay, it’s a club night in The Flying Duck at 124 Renfield Street and is a female only environment 9pm-3am on the 30th of May which is promising a host of uplifting tunes ranging from soul through to dance music from the sixties! Tickets on the door are £6 but if you E-mail: [email protected] then you can get in for a very reasonable £4 leaving you more money for drinks at the bar which is always a good thing. Also a good night to be attending is Passionality at FHQ which is on John Street and upstairs from Speakeasy each and every Mon night with drinks being served for your pleasure from £1 and cocktails from £1.99. Bargain. And remember it’s only free entry before Midnight and after that is £3 or £2 with a flyer. Get your passes from Speakeasy from 9pm! DJ Jamie who is Miss Shivey [email protected] always popular and one of my personal favourites to drunkenly demand songs to is cranking out the tunes so don’t be boring and pop along. In the same venue every Wed is Foreplay for girls upstairs in FHQ and Foreplay for boys downstairs in Speakeasy which is kind of the pre-warm up for my good mate DJ Darren's night in Play which begins afterwards and is still dragging in bring crowds with different themes each week and great drink promotions. Sat in Speakeasy means DJ Devine time and the night Gayface with the tagline ‘Get your gayface on’….Now I'm not too sure exactly how I go about doing that but it sounds like good fun and ye ken me I’m willing to give anything a bash after I’ve had a few! Ah Delmonicas - the original bar stomping ground. Open all day every day with great drinks prices and a great varied crowd and thee best bar staff. Though I never did figure out what all the plastic flying birds are all about? Answers on a postcard please. Anyhoo they now are providing Gold and Silver VIP party pods, get status in your own air conditioned booth for a birthday, engagement or just a chance to get wrecked with a tad more privacy and bling! Contact the bar to book or get more information and if you book it can you please invite me! Worth a mention is that Bennets on a Fri is now free entry before 11.30pm and SMS discount after that! Pop in for a bounce and see some familiar (even if very pished due to the EXTREMLEY cheap drinks) faces! There is nowhere like Bennets for a boogie at the weekend-FACT. But remember the venue is now open six days a week too so whenever you feel the need, as always the Bennets team is there for you! And most probably me too actually cos I still have not learned when to get the fuck home! See the husband for more details lol. He’s now fat AND raging. Happy days. If you’re looking to be entertained then the place to be heading down to at the moment is Merchant Pride who have Ashley McCulloch crooning all the chart hits every Fri night from 9.30pm onwards and then on Sat Barbara Briceland is belting em out from 5-8pm and there’s Karaoke afterwards... Sun is Robert and May Miller aka the notorious duo performing away from 5-8.30pm with Ashley back on doing her thang just after. I'm winding this up for the month: I'm totally fecked and I smell like the bins. Again. Enjoy Eurovision ladies and gents and keep coming up to say hello and generally fling things at me if you see me out and about! Take care. -OTIVATED-ANAGERREQUIRED &ORANEWGAYNIGHTCLUBIN$UNDEE #ANDIDATESMUSTHAVEPREVIOUSMANAGERIAL EXPERIENCEWITHINTHENIGHTCLUBINDUSTRYAND WILLBEHIGHLYMOTIVATEDANDCOMMITTED !NEXCELLENTSALARYPACKAGEINCLUDING PERFORMANCERELATEDBONUSWILLBEAVAILABLE 0LEASEEMAILYOUR#6WITHPASTAND PRESENTWORKEXPERIENCETO*OSEPHAT BABYLON? BDSM Runs regular clubs at the Big Joint in South Street, Glasgow on the first Sat of the month. www.violate.co.uk Hi folks. Please allow me to introduce myself a wee bit; I work for the Terrence Higgins Trust in Inverness and love this part of the world. I just had a weeks holiday and enjoyed that time up in Sutherland catching up with a few friends. I played volleyball in a sunny garden, watched the sunrise near Tongue (make your own jokes please), went to the opening of my friend’s photographic exhibition at a gallery in Tain, helped with lambing in Lairg and had lunches at two of my favourite inns too. Spring is trying really hard to break through up here, but we are still getting snow showers as I type. As it’s about time the area had a voice again, I’m hoping that I’ll be fed all the news and views by people from across the region so that I can tell the rest of Scotland what’s going on in the best part of Britain! Contact me and tell me stuff! I’m enjoying working with established LGBT groups (and individuals too) at our office and throughout the Highlands and Islands. I am also setting up much needed new ones, along with the Equality Network I’ll be helping to support new groups in Shetland, Orkney, Lewis, Wick, Elgin, Inverness and Fort-William. Once they’re up and running they’ll be in the group listings. The proactive Rainbow Folk go from strength to strength and after the success of the History Month event in Feb we are planning awareness raising sessions to help carers better understand the needs of the older LGBT community. The booklet produced by the group has proved popular and is being ordered by care workers agencies and Caroline Shaw [email protected] independent rest homes alike. Some rather ground breaking work has also been done with the Church of Scotland. A few of the Rainbow Folk have met with a minister and then with members of the congregation to discuss faith and acceptance. The Highland LGBT Forum had their AGM in March and voted on a few new committee members with new ideas to add to the great work that has been done to date. By the next issue we will let you have some dates for your diaries for some groovy events in Inverness and hopefully beyond too. Mike (chair-person) and I went up to Thurso recently to meet with the LGBT group there and it was good to hear what they have been up to and what they are planning. They seemed to appreciate a visit and a bit of support and I hope to link them up with a couple of new northern groups so that they can perhaps get together from time to time and all feel less isolated. Mike told them what the Forum is up to and we discussed the possibility of all meeting up to travel to Edinbugh together for Pride Scotia in June. This April at the THT office we relaunched a new youth group and myself and Dave Styles (the foxy THT sessional worker pictured in the shower!), met some great folk including a dance teacher who is planning LGBT salsa classes! Assuming that you have better coordination than me, that’d be a great way to get fit and meet some new people too. I’ll keep you posted. A few of us are eager to see more Rainbow flags in the windows of shops, cafes, bars and clubs. My manager had a meeting with one Inverness bar about LGBT friendly nights, someone on the forum committee met with a nightclub about LGBT Thursdays and Dave has also spoken with lots more pubs (it’s easy to see where he spends a lot of his spare time isn’t it?) – and all with good, positive responses. Dave’s formatted a letter to send out to businesses that can’t easily be reached on foot and they’ll be going in the post very soon. We can collate the information and put it onto the forum website and print a flyer too so that visitors as well as locals know where they will feel comfortable. It’s not quite a ‘scene’ yet, but it’s a start!! Within the Terrence Higgins Trust we continue to be very busy; it’s a large geographical area and we’re lucky to have the help of some great volunteers – do let me know if you’d like to join the number. Whether it’s giving out condoms at festivals, tidying the stockroom or visiting HIV positive service users, volunteers make a great difference. The clinic runs on a Tue evening and our nurse can test you for HIV as well other STIs. Call for an appointment; Inverness (01463) 711585. Appointments to see our counsellor can be made on the same telephone number if there are any issues relating to sex or sexuality that you’d like help with. We post out condoms, lube and dams free of charge so do let us know if you’d like to receive them on a monthly basis; E-mail [email protected] and we’ll let you know what there is to choose from. Okay, that’s me for now I think. Enjoy the spring sunshine and some Mayday madness and I’ll be back next month. THE WATERLOO* 306 Argyle Street. Tel: 0141-248 7216. The media is buzzing with election fever, and record numbers of young people are apparently turning out to vote. We’re all on tenterhooks as to what the result will be on the 6th! And then of course, May is my own big day – only a few weeks left ’til marital bliss!! And here’s what else is going on! It’s all go at Priscillas this month, with a plethora of entertainment to keep you all going! Check out our fab pics attached, from Priscillas’ Mardi Gras last month. Firstly, on Sat 8th May they are hosting a Coyote Ugly evening, with a twist of course! They are also hosting a Pyjama Party fundraising night on Sun 16th May, raising funds for the Moonwalk Charity. And on Sat 22nd May, drag sensation Miss Scarlett will be performing the best of live vocals and cheeky humour. They are also starting a ‘mystery song’ on Sundays with the sexy Lala Hotpants, with the pot standing at £10 at the moment – increasing by £10 every week until someone gets the mystery song!!! Other top news for Priscillas is that DJ Lynnie and her Monday Pound Club have now relocated there from Planet. No more Monday Club at Planet – presumably the management are cutting costs to pay for that extra bouncer they’ve had to get in, due to the Saturday night brawls which were becoming a bit of a regular feature. So Priscillas have stepped into the breach, are hosting Monday Club and as well as selected drinks for £1, they’re also giving away free food. Result!! They also have Jamie hosting karaoke on Tue, and Jamie Lee Morley singing many a tune on his Wed and Thu karaoke nights. I had occasion to undertake The Street’s quiz last month, which was a whole heap offun hosted by scene fav Trendy Wendy. Starting at 9pm on Wed nights, it features 4 rounds including a sensational music round. And the twist of course is that the winners get a £50 tab, and the second prize is a choice of two boxes. We came second, and our prize was a very nice bottle of something. A highly enjoyable night I’d thoroughly recommend! Also fab news for those (albeit infrequent) sunny nights - The Street now have a new pavement license. So one can enjoy an apple Martini whilst checking out the passing talent! And there’s also a quiz on at Elbow on Tue evenings. Just the ticket for those wanting to test their grey matter over a tipple or two. News at the Regent – they are celebrating CAMRA‘s Mild Month In May with a fewdark mild ales making an appearance over the next month - Brewer’s Dark from Lees in Manchester and Thwaites Nutty Black from Blackburn. Go on, treat yourself! Also, look out for Caledonian’s Flying Dutchman, a wheat beer flavoured with coriander, orange peel and liquorice. Delicious! The Regent Showcase also returns on Tue 11th May (8pm-Midnight), an acoustic night featuring local singer/songwriters. Alan Joy’s 3rd original JOY Mix (dating from May 1995) will be on sale at TheRegent and Café Nom De Plume for a bargain price of £5, with all proceeds going to Pride Scotia. And don’t forget The World Famous Regent Bar Quiz hosted by quiz mistress extraordinaire Siobhan and helpers. The best testing of the grey matter you’ll find on a Tue evening, get down to the Regent for the quiz on Tue 25th May. It would be advisable to get there for 8.30pm as this one fills up very quickly!! Jodie Fleming [email protected] So all you fame seekers who didn’t make it through the Glasgow X Factor auditions last month – dinnae fear!! Celebrity Tackno is here, and your chance for 15 minutes of fame!! So which Celebrity will you be??? Get down to GHQ on Sun 2nd May (10.30pm) for this celebrity extravaganza!! There will be awards for the best celebrity dopplegangers... and plenty of celebrity scandal. “TACKNO-GATE“ - DJ Trendy Wendy caught in C D romp shock story exclusive; Dj bunny in backroom boiler blunder; In bed with Simon Bowell - Fancy Nancy tells all! There will be star performances from Laddie Gaga, Paris Pilton & Susan’s Boyles. Annnnnd!!! enter the circle of shame with Katie Priceless & Peter Andrex...What a fab night this promises to be! Advance tickets are a steal at only £6, and available from GHQ, The Street, Elbow & Cafe Habana. It’s more on the door! (£7/£8). Illustrious womens’ night Furburger this month celebrate their 5th birthday!! It’s been a turbulent 5 years on our scene, forcing the club night to relocate several times. But this has not deterred the Funki Diva or Dejaybird from bringing the ladies all the aural stimulation they can handle!! Last they have, and they have carved a name for themselves as a dependable night of great music, great ladies and great fun!! The birthday bash is on Fri 14th May, down at GHQ of course from 11pm til past your bedtime. And if you need any more incentive to go along, then the ladies are offering free bubbly to the first guests of the evening, with plenty more fun n frolics throughout the night. And don’t forget to look out for the free passes available on the night! As if that wasn’t enough from GHQ, they are also having an 80’s night on Sun 30th May, with a live PA from dyke icon Hazel Dean. By which time I’ll be on a plane to our honeymoon in Thailand! Result. If you fancy something a wee bit different, how does this sound? Loud & Proud, Scotland’s only LGBT choir, are hosting a fabulous concert, ‘Love Is In The Air’ on Sat 8th May. Starting at 8pm at Edinburgh’s George Square Theatre, the group will perform a cappella (doors open 7.30pm). Loud & Proud offers an eclectic and entertaining programme sung with energy, joy and enthusiasm, including songs by Abba, Diana Ross, Peggy Seeger, Rufus Wainwright and U2. Come along and feel the love!! Tickets are selling quickly, so book in advance to avoid disappointment! £9 and £7 concession, with free parking available. The Hub Box office: 0131-473 2000 or www.hubtickets.co.uk. That’s all for now folks! And my last column as a single lady – needless to say I’m on a daily countdown, so for now I’ll bid you good day and get stuck into more wedding preparation. And the word Bridezilla will not be received well peeps! ! 9 STIRLING: GROUPS Stirling Gay Men's Social Group Meets monthly from Sep-Jun (generally 3rd Fri) in private houses.
