“Growing into Jesus - Reaching out with love”
Good News Daily

John 12:37-50 Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he
does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. When he
looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have come into the world
as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” (vv.44-46)
I’ve learned the hard way that it is crucial for me to continually keep my eyes on Jesus. If I do not keep my mind and heart focused
on him, I can waver in my daily walk, and slide into discouragement
and darkness. Thinking about my husband’s illness and his struggles
often causes me to venture into fear and negative thoughts. I’ve
learned that I must constantly monitor my thought patterns and stay
focused upon the Lord Jesus. Seeking him daily in peace as well as
in times of turmoil keeps me focused on God and His Word, which
strengthens and uplifts me.
“Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue
me from the mighty waters” (Psalm 144:7a).

Psalm 118 I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord
helped me. The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. (vv.13-14 NIV)
Life can often become tedious and/or a huge struggle that
saps our strength. We encounter trials and tribulations along the
way and wonder, “Am I going to be able to survive this?” The
chronic illness of a family member has challenged me and often
brought on despair and discouragement. I have learned that I
need my daily time with the Lord, delving into His word to sustain
and strengthen me. When I seem to be falling into the clutches of
despair, I immediately turn to the Lord.
“In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by
setting me free. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.” (Psalm
118:5-6a).

Jeremiah 24:1-10 “I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the
Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will
return to me with all their heart.” (v.7)
Jeremiah 24:7 is one of my favorite passages from God’s
Word. It is a heart-to-heart message from our Holy God that exhibits
His intense love for me/us, and His desire for us to come into a deep
personal relationship with Him. This passage speaks to me of His
yearning for a closeness that would cause me to continuously seek
Him and to fully experience His security, strength, and assurance. No
matter what my struggles may be, all will be well when I am connected with Him in a secure and safe relationship.

Romans 10:1-13 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in
your mouth and in your heart.” (v.8a)
For many years, I “performed” at being a believing Christian.
I went to church regularly, yet had no personal relationship with Jesus
Christ. Sadly, I didn’t know I was supposed to have a personal encounter and relationship with Him! I loved the liturgy of the church,
and the music was, indeed, inspirational. I scoffed at anyone who
would say to me, “Do you know Jesus?”
A close friend of mine often talked about her love of the Lord,
her closeness to Him, and ways that He spoke to her. Despite caring
for her as a friend, I decided that she must be a bit “loony.” She continued to pray for me.
Our family was sent to live on Kwajalein, in the Marshall Islands, where my husband was to work on the test firing of the Sprint
missile. Many difficulties and challenges while living there for two
years brought me to the place where I knew that if there was a Savior,
then I desperately needed him! I succumbed to God’s love and gave
Him my heart. Things have never been the same since that day! Hallelujah!

Psalm 119:145-176 My eyes stay open through the watches of the
night, that I may meditate on your promises. Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O Lord, according to your
laws. (vv.148-149)
I am a night owl! I enjoy staying up late to read, and often fall
asleep with book or Bible in hand! I love to delve into God’s Word in
the silence of the night hours, and then to pray and seek God’s presence. Somehow, in the darkness and deep, deep silence of the night,
God seems so powerfully present. He seems to speak to me in a still,
small voice as I saturate my mind and soul with His Word. He often
seems to lead me directly to a particular passage on which He wants
me to focus and meditate. How precious are these times with Him!
The next morning I am able to face the day with encouragement and
peace, knowing deep in my heart that all will be well.
“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can
make them stumble” (Psalm 119:165).
Jeremiah 25:30-38; Romans 10:14-21; John 10:1-18
Life can be busy and often hectic. When we are actively
working at home and/or an outside job, we can become stressed
physically and emotionally exhausted. At those times, I find that I
must seek out a quiet place where I can sit down, still my soul and
mind, and find peace and serenity with the Lord. I don’t have to constantly be “doing” something! I can take time to sit with eyes closed,
allowing my busy, draining thoughts to go. I am then able to allow
God’s peace and comfort to saturate my soul! When I began to regularly practice this interruption in my day, I found it was difficult at first
to let the intruding thoughts go. With practice, I can now be at peace
in the presence of the Lord and know that all will be well without my
worrying. This practice gives my mind and body a complete, refreshing rest.

Jeremiah 29:1, 4-13 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares
the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future.” (v.11)
There are times when the challenges of life seem to overwhelm me. If I am not careful, I can fall into an abyss of negative
thinking and “poor me” whining. At these times these words from the
prophet Jeremiah give me a surge of hope and encouragement! Feelings of defeat and despair, which seem to hold me captive, are
washed away as I allow the Word of God to saturate my mind and
heart!
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I
will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me
with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12-13).
