Benefits Without Boundaries
On Friday, September 16, from 10:30 AM to 1:45
PM, Tri-Lakes Silver Alliance in partnership with Tri
-Lakes Cares and Silver Key, are proud to be hosting
Benefits Without Boundaries, thanks to a generous
grant from Kaiser Permanente.
This informational workshop is free and open to
anyone who would like to learn more about Medicare
benefits, how to access the different types of available
Medicare packages, and how Silver Key can help in
this process. Stan Grant, our expert presenter from
Silver Key, will also discuss VA benefits and other
social services that are available to qualified clients.
A multitude of programs and services available to
the Tri-Lakes area citizens will be presented by Paula
Blair, a case manager for Tri-Lakes Cares. Some of
these programs include: The Emergency Food
Assistance Program (TEFAP), Supplemental
Groceries, Senior Supplemental Groceries, Snack
Pack Program, Seasonal Programs, and many more.
Other presenters include: Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP) who will offer
information about their programs and eligibility,
Penrose-St. Francis, who will present medical
services provided at Tri-Lakes Cares, and a segment
on the importance of nutrition, covering why it’s so

important to eat right in our golden years.
A free box lunch from Catering by Nikki will be
available for all registered participants. The workshop
will be conducted at the Tri-Lakes Senior Center,
located on the campus of Lewis-Palmer High School.
Space is limited so please register by September 2 to
reserve your spot. A registration form is available
inside this newsletter, or may be downloaded from the

Mind Fit Workshop
Mind Fit, a free six-week brain health workshop,
will be offered at the Tri-Lakes Senior Center
beginning Monday, September 12,
The benefits of Mind Fit are mental stimulation
which help delay memory loss and engage all areas of
cognitive function. The activities are fun and intended
not only to keep clients mentally active, but to also
improve their overall quality of life.
A different topic will be presented for each of the
six-weeks.
This workshop will be hosted by Mark and
Dorothy Silvanic, the owners of the Tri-Lakes Area
Home Care Assistance.

Rocky Mountain Chautauqua
Saturday, Aug. 6, 10 AM- 5 PM. Palmer Lake Village Green (28 Valley Crescent)
The Palmer Lake Historical Society invites the
public to the return of the Rocky Mountain
Chautauqua. The day begins with the opening
proclamation by President Teddy Roosevelt, who
declared that Chautauqua is “the most American thing
in America.” Music will be provided by Fox Run
Band throughout most of the morning and early
afternoon.
Demonstrations and exhibits of early 20th century
folk art and antique implements will be demonstrated
in the Palmer Lake Town Hall while Colorado Parks
& Wildlife will host an exhibit on the Village Green
along with a 1970s railroad motor car.

Afternoon events include an ice cream social with
children’s entertainment, sponsored by the Tri-Lakes
Friends of the Library, from 1:00 to 2:15. This is
followed by the ever-popular Legendary Ladies
presenting their interpretation of historic and
influential Colorado women, including the
“Unsinkable Molly Brown.” Jim Sawatski’s film
“Summer Sojourn” will be shown at 4 pm in the Town
Hall. Concurrently, there will be a tour of the Lucretia
Vaile Museum.
Teddy Roosevelt will close this year's Chautauqua at

Ever wanted to learn how to create a
quilt? This is the class for you! In 4 weeks,
learn to use the "modern " tools available to
create a simple project. You will learn how
to sew a 1/4" seam and how to put on
borders. A simple quilt can be so versatile
that you can decide how many blocks to
make during your 4 sessions. Help will be
given to assemble your project. This class
will cover the basics: fabric selection,
rotary cutting, piecing and how to add
borders. An optional binding workshop will
be available to finish your project.
(Traditional 9 patch or Modern Strips) If
you want to do just one day, “Fastest Quilt
in the West” can be done in a day...top to
finished quilt without binding!

Volunteers Needed!
Additional volunteer drivers are needed to meet the growing demands of our ever-increasing senior population.
Volunteers receive an orientation after criminal and driving
records have been screened. Mileage is reimbursed if
volunteers use their own vehicle.
