Welcome
Hello!
Welcome to the first of many “Vancity Fair” style photographs, created to highlight local
film, television and artistic talent throughout the country. It is the brainchild of Torquille
De Jonge, with the aid of his partner in crime, lead photographer + creative director, Brandon Elliot. Together they will be taking this project around the country, and then around
the world, where they will collectively photograph actors, directors, producers, and every genre of talent that come together as one. They look forward to working with many
amazing and talented people in the future.
Thank you to each of you who made this project possible!

I haven’t jumped from a plane or taken one to space, visited Antarctica, or
driven an exotic supercar on the Autobahn – yet! However, I’ve done loads
of other cool stuff like: diving with great white sharks, surviving a crazy
cyclone in Tonga, and being an honoured guest at a Fijian tribal wedding;
while traveling to more than 26 countries around the world shooting destination weddings, headshots & other commercial projects. I love what I
do. I love the excitement and thrill of shooting! Waking up in the morning
and itching to start the day – creating, visualizing, designing, laying out
new ideas, concepts, and collaborating with people on projects. I’ve never
looked at what I do as a job! To me it’s exciting and ever changing – there’s
always something new to explore…what can I do differently on this shoot?
How can I make everyone relax and be themselves? What are the needs of the client that haven’t
been discussed yet? How can I learn from the last shoot and apply it moving forward? I’m constantly
looking at new tools to add to the toolbox and more innovative ways to use the ol’ faithful tools. I’ll
never stop learning – I love to be on the leading edge, continually being educated. Boring is something I will never let happen.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a
moment that’s gone forever and impossible to reproduce.”
-Karl Lagerfeld
I remember my first camera very clearly, an old Brownie. I was 6. No idea where it came from or how
I ended up with it. Was this little camera my inspiration to become a photographer? Realistically,
probably not – but you never know if a seed was planted. As I grew up I knew I wanted to design
+ create things. I pursued mechanical engineering after high school – thinking I could become a
designer by following this path. It did fulfill my left brain needs; but it “left” my right brain needing
more. What I love about photography is utilization of both sides – the right technical side; apertures,
shutters, flashes, focal lengths, the physics of light; combining with the left side; creativity, expression, interpretation. Then both sides coming together in harmony to capture that moment of emo-
VF
tion. In my early 20s I embarked on a year long journey to Australia, Fiji and New Zealand – this is
where I really fell in love with photography. Something “clicked” when I was behind the camera – it
felt incredibly natural and I haven’t looked back since....

Torquille De Jonge
Photographer + Project Manager
Born in Vancouver – some years ago, he was born a happy baby, and when the
doctor slapped the life into him, he knew he was destined to take great photos. He
had never held a camera until his Dad handed him his old Agfa when he was about
10, during a mountain hike…and was captivated by the results, and has never been
without a camera since…except once in Greece during his mid 20’s when he felt
“heck, any old camera will do”, and was subsequently unhappy taking one roll of
pictures on an almost-disposable camera…until he came upon a trusting Australian
girl who lent him her professional camera for 1 week and he took 37 rolls of film,
and came to believe in trusting, beautiful female strangers… Upon the realization
that photography had become his career: he simply knew that the main goal of this
passion is to make women look even more beautiful through the magic of the camera lens. When working with his clients, he has the ability to bring out a special part
of their personality that, when transposed into a photograph, makes one breathless while gazing at it…and the next comment is “how stunning/sultry/beguiling”
the woman looks…and “how did he get that look”…and “how did he decide on that effect”….etc.
The alluring photos he creates with, and because of, his subjects, he shows the women as strong, mesmerizing, and devastatingly stunning…or simply fresh and pretty. Overall, client images very likely have a candidly
erotic tone, a la Helmut Newton, whom Torq aspires to be the modern emulation of…or the image may just as
easily become part of a whimsical landscape…sleek and decadent in its beauty…“…it’s what you see, and what
you don’t see…” is one of the ways he makes his subjects the tantalizing focus… Torq is happiest while looking through the camera’s lens and that happiness is infectious. A photo shoot with Torq is fun, focused, and
personal…and it’s all about the subject – the subject is the center of his attention…nothing else matters at that
moment. He gets to know his clients and how they want to be seen through the camera…and he then attains
that for them.
Torq has a huge portfolio of clients, and yeah, he also has a lot of BFFs: “beautiful female friends”. As he moves
back and forth between Vancouver and England, client requests have him scheduling as many shoots as he
can in the space of a day. And the women are saying: “Can’t wait to shoot with you again”; “you made me look
like a model at my very first photo shoot”; “so excited to be working with you”…. “your final edits of my pics
are stellar”…”you are amazing, see you Monday”, “love your style”… You will find his work in model portfolios,
on social media sites, on entertainment blogs and online magazine websites, etc.
You will be able to lay eyes on his latest shots wherever you are now standing…whether it be a gallery/venue/
event…Or scrutinize his work here on the site.
VF
At a restaurant, the cook said to Helmut Newton. “…your images are excellent. You have a great camera.”
Newton said to the cook after the meal: “your food was magnificent. You must have good pots…”

You can catch Andrea on Zoo’s Season 2/Episode

As a diarist and a savvy observer of the human
condition, Andrea has an unleashed tongue
and speaks the uneasy, unsparing truth in her
controversial memoir, which will be available online
and at Chapters/Indigo this year, and is already
optioned for film/TV by a veteran Canadian film
producer, Robert Lantos of Serendipity Point Films.
She has a special appearance opposite Erika Linder
in a steamy feature drama, Below Her Mouth,
premiering at Tiff 2016, directed by April Mullen.
This film will make history in Canadian cinema as
the first all-female crew film.
One to watch out for is Real Fiction. Andrea stars
in this gritty indie thriller/drama directed by Kirk
Caouette.
Before she fully dedicated herself to her passion
and followed her dream of being an actor, Andrea
travelled the world as a model. With really only
