Prime Time After School Enrichment Program: Looking for an after school program for your child? Our Bright From the Start license program runs from 2:30pm-6:30pm everyday that school is in session. We offer homework assistance, daily snacks, arts-n-crafts, recreation and more in a safe, caring environment. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on the total household income. After School Locations Meadowview Toney Cedar Grove Oakview Kelley Lake Indian Creek Flatshoals Toomer EAST LAKE EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY East Lake Early Learning Academy Our goal is to eliminate the language gap and ensure our students be ready to succeed in learning to read when they reach kindergarten, and are on a path to reading to learn by third grade. With the support of our collaborative partners- Drew Charter School, Rollins Center of Language & Learning at the Atlanta Speech, CF Foundation and the East Lake Foundation. Collectively, circumstances to help children achieve success from cradle to college. The Academy serves students age 6 weeks to three years residing in the city of Atlanta and zoned to attend Atlanta Public Schools. The ELELA uses two evidence – based curriculums to support learning: The Opening the World of Learning Curriculum is used for the three year old classroom. OWL is a comprehensive curriculum that develops language and literacy skills through rich content in all domains of learning. Themes, skills, and concepts are developed through the used of quality children’s books (fiction and non-fiction). The Creative Curriculum is used as the framework to support learning for our infant, ones, and two year old classrooms. The research-based curriculum helps teachers understand developmentally appropriate practices and how to provide meaningful experiences that respond to children’s strengths, interest, and needs. Standard Weekly Rate: Infants: $250 • 1-2 Year Olds: $200 2-3 Year Olds: $190 • 3-4 Year Olds $ 180 East Lake Family YMCA • 404-373-6561 • www.ymcaatlanta.org CHILD CARE Play Center & Y-Zone ages 3 months-12 years: While parents are enjoying our programs and services at the East Lake Family YMCA, their children are divided into age appropriate rooms that are monitored by well trained staff. Ages 3 months – 12 years can participate in developmentally sound activities that are fun and engaging! The Play Center serves 3 months – 5 years of age, and Y-Zone serves 6-12 year olds, Come experience the YMCA difference by witnessing our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in action! This free service is offered to Facility Members with Family or Youth Membership. 2-hour limit per day (up to 7 hours/week). PARENTS TIME OUT Register! Parent’s Time Out ages 18 months-5 years: Looking for somewhere to put your little on while you run errands? Activities include story time, arts & crafts, games, playground time, recreational play, music and movement. Contact Tara Hardy at 404-373-6561 or [email protected] for more information. 2 Teens TEENS WHO WANT TO LEAD...TEENS TAKING THE LEAD...TEENS IN THE LEAD….TEEN LEADERS Teen LEED Initiative: Leadership, Enrichment, Employment, and Development At the Y, Youth and Teens are encouraged to reach their full potential by mastering life skills needed to become positive adult citizens. By offering programs and activities that foster personal growth and awareness, we focus on developing youth and teens in a way that is specific to their individual need and interest. Teen LEED is a progressive culture of leadership and independence that guides teens through their journey in becoming better leaders. Level 1: Teens Who Want to LEAD Y-Clubs: At the Y we keep youth and teens connected through small interest groups. Teens are offered a wide variety of Y-Clubs that include: chess club, technology club, theater and arts club, hip-hop dance classes, yogo, flag football, and more. All Y-Clubs meet weekly and provide a safe and nurturing environment so that teens can explore and grow in areas of interest in a casual way. Friday Night Breakouts: Every month teens have the chance to simply “hang out” in a positive, safe, and fun environment. Friday Night Breakouts include trips to various places in Atlanta and the Metro Atlanta area. Past trips include: bowling, ice skating, dinner and a movie downtown, sport games, museums, paint balling, skating, and arcade venues and more! Level 2: Teens Taking the LEAD YMCA Earth Service Corps: YMCA Earth Service Corps (YESC) is a YMCA program, active nationwide, that teaches young people caring, responsibility, honesty, and responsibility through community action and a better understanding of where they live. The program is a teen and community partnership that supports the development of youth-led clubs and provides environmental educational opportunities through which teens can focus on the issues that make their neighborhoods more viable and sustainable. The four main components are leadership training, monthly service-learning projects, environmental education, and cross cultural experiences and exposure to a multitude of ways to take effective action. We’ve found the best leaders and staff are often those who have been through the camp experience as a camper. LITs are transitioning from a camper to a camp leader. LITs have the opportunity to continue attending camp, albeit in a new role. LITs build leadership skills, continue in the camp tradition of forming lasting relationships, and contribute to the overall camp atmosphere. The LIT program is for campers who wish to transition to the role of Counselor in the future or those who simply wish to build skills for future employment. Level 3: Teens in the LEAD Teen Advisory Board: Teen Advisory Board is a core group of Y-leaders who work together to find ways to engage other teens. Teen Board is a forum for teens to meet other teens who enjoy service and to have a voice planning the activities for teens at the YMCA Youth and Teen Development Center. To help promote our services to other teens, TAB will meet as a group at once a month. During the meeting TAB will discuss and plan upcoming activities, talk about ways the Youth and Teen Center can help teens in the community. Alongside serving as ambassador at the Y, they complete ongoing leadership and personal development trainings to include: public speaking, financial literacy, teen entrepreneurs, and more. REGISTER ONLINE! Y Leaders Club: In Y Leaders Club, teens receive leadership training and learn the importance of social responsibility and service to others. Leaders Club meets once a week. Members also participate in social events, service projects and have the opportunity to go on several trips. Leaders Club provides a safe, genuine place for middle and high school teens and helps direct their energy to positive outcomes. Young Women's Leadership Academy: Young Women's Leadership Academy provides opportunities for young women to gain positive life skills and realize their leadership potential by being exposed to professional women and men that can inspire and encourage them to pursue and achieve their dreams. In scheduled monthly two-three hour sessions, teens are mentored and engaged in regular project-based activities and receive hands-on experience while exploring various career choices and participate in activities that solidify their leadership, communication, self-esteem and social skills. Young Men’s Achievers Academy: Y Achievers is a national Y program designed to help teens set and pursue high educational and career goals resulting in graduation and acceptance into a post-secondary institute or adoption of a vocation. Y Achievers helps teens improve academic performance, develop a positive sense of self, build character, explore diverse college and career options, and interact with professionals who serve as role models. Y Achievers is yea round, enrolling new freshmen each fall. During the school year, students participate in weekly non-school hour sessions and monthly Saturday Summit and Workshops. Students also take part in job shadowing opportunities and college tours. During the summer, eligible rising juniors and seniors are provided the opportunity to work in paid summer internships. Level 4: YMCA Teen LEADer International Excursions: The Y Teen International Excursion program offers teens a progressive way to learn new and diverse cultures through service and international awareness. This program allows our teens to participate in new environments where everyone can establish new goals and memories while having fun and making new connections globally. Core components of International Excursion are team building, leadership development, and philanthropic matriculation. Teen Internships at the Y: The Youth & Teen Center provides teens with life-changing work experiences at companies and nonprofit organizations. The internship program gives students the opportunity to explore exciting career paths, make new connections, and build a network of professional adults that they would not have the ability to make on their own. After weeks of training led by industry professionals and staff at the Youth and Teen Center, the students spend time in their placements gaining an understanding of the profession and what it means to have the responsibility of a full time job/career. YMCA Educational Support Programs College TRACK: Here at the Y, we know and understand that education is the glue of strong, healthy families and neighborhoods. That's why we're working to help close the education achievement gap and transform communities. Students meet once and week and are introduced to financial and social aspects of the college entry process. This program incorporates guest speakers, campus visits, tutoring and centered on a frame work that helps remove the "veil of mystery" regarding higher education. Academic Tutorial Programming: The highly personalized and targeted approach of our academic tutoring programs builds the skills, study habits, and determination necessary to excel in the classroom and beyond. We offer daily tutorials for all students that build the core skills and confidence you need for a successful academic journey. Saturday Learning Academy: Academic instruction with certified teachers in a nurturing and supportive environment. Curriculum is aligned with Middle and High School focus areas and includes core subjects like reading comprehension, language arts, mathematics, and social sciences. 4 Fitness & Wellness GROUP EXERCISE As a benefit of membership, member’s ages 13 and older may attend as many group exercise and water aerobics classes as they wish. No registration required! Members ages 9-12 may participate in select group exercise classes when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fitlinxx Orientation free for members ages 13+ years: YMCA wellness coaches are available by appointment to answer your fitness-related questions and instruct you on safe usage of our strength and cardio equipment. Schedule your appointment at the Membership Desk. Facility members ages 9-12 years: May use select wellness equipment only if the following criteria are met: • • • Manufacturer’s safety requirements must be met (60” height requirement). An orientation must successfully be completed with a parent of guardian present. Subsequent use of the area will require that a parent of guardian be present. THE COACH APPROACH ® The COACH APPROACH ® A six-month program free for members ages 18+ years: An exercise support process, is a free program for members 18 and older designed to teach new or returning exercisers how to start and stick with their personalized exercise program. Learn how to: • Kick the inactivity habit • Shape workouts around activities you prefer • Measure effects of exercise on mood, stress and energy • Stay on track even when your schedule throws you a curve ball! Sports & Rec YOUTH SPORTS Baseball ages 4–14 years: The purpose of the Junior Braves Little League Baseball and Softball is to provide a development and competitive program at the community level, while keeping baseball Fun for the youth in their early and advance stages of participation. Basketball ages 4-15 years: The YMCA Basketball program helps youth and teen become not only better players, but better people as well. It's a progressive program, with multiple age-specific levels. Every youth and teen gets to play and the games are safe, exciting and fun. Begins Early December Register! MEM: $90 MEM: $110 TEEN SPORTS Elite Competitive Cheer ages 5-16: Y Elite All-stars is a one of a kind, competitive cheer leading program that focuses on competitive cheer skill progression, character and leadership development, and civic engagement. Elite team members have the opportunity to pursue cheer leading with a passion and purpose that works towards collegiate cheer leading skill mastery. Tumbling, advance stunting, and mastery of choreography is strongly emphasized. October-January Practices twice a week and local, regional, and national competitions are held monthly Competitive Step Team: Step Team is a program designed to create a connection to the school through participation in a step team. The overall goal of the program is to create an atmosphere of acceptance and appreciation for diversity and culture. The objectives are for each student to achieve satisfactory academic standing, improve self-esteem, and gain a sense of belonging to their Y and community. Input is sought from participants regarding scheduling of performances, costume design, and routines. YEAR ROUND SWIM LESSONS PARENT/CHILD CLASSES ages 6- 36 months • 30 minutes Parent/Tot parents and tots ages 6-36 months: Parent assisted program designed to increase comfort in the water. Provides positive learning environment for aquatics. SAT only: 9:00 am - 9:30 am PRESCHOOL CLASSES ages 3-5 years • 30-minutes M-TH: 6:00-6:30 pm • SAT: 9:35 am - 10:05 am Pike (Beginner I) – Water readiness. In class: will learn to blow bubbles, put face in water and proper kicking, paddling, front and back floats with use of floatation devices. Eel (Advanced Beginner) – Put face in water float on black and front w/assistance swim 5 feet without floatation. In class: will learn to kick on back, float, swim without assistance 15 feet, wet ball and synchronized swimming skills. Ray (Intermediate/Advanced Skills Required) – Swim without floatation device 15 feet, float on front and back, jump into water without help. In class: will learn front crawl elementary backstroke, treading water, synchronized swimming skills and we ball activities. Starfish (Advanced Skills Required) – Tread water, swim 25 feet using a modified crawl stroke and swim on back. In class: will learn survival float, knelling and sitting dives, boating safety, to coordinate front crawl with rotary breathing and back crawl 25 yards. YOUTH CLASSES ages 6-12 years • 45-minutes M-TH: 6:35-7:25 pm • SAT: 10:10 am - 10:55 am Polliwog (Beginner/No Skills Required) – Will be introduced to the front crawl, front and back floats, putting face in water and personal safety skills. Guppy (Skills Required) – Blow bubbles, put face in water, float on front and back paddle 15 feet without assistance. In class: will learn to tread water, rudimentary 25 yards front and back crawl, jump into deep end, kneeling dive. Minnow (Skills Required) – Rudimentary 25 yards front and back crawl, jump in the deep end, tread water for 30 seconds. In class: will build endurance swimming; reinforce fundamentals of front crawl elementary backstroke and diving. Introduction to breaststroke arm pull. Emphasize rescue & safety skills. Fish (Skills Required) – Swim 2 lengths each of front crawl and back stroke in good form. Can dive in water. In class: Will learn to perform 50 yards each: breast stroke, side stroke and open turns. Flying Fish (Skills Required) – Swim 2 lengths each of front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke in succession, survival float 7 minutes and tread water for 3 minutes. In class: will learn bilateral breathing, inverted scissors on side, introduction to butterfly and flip turns. Shark (Skills Required) – Excellent front and back crawl demonstrates coordination in breast stroke and butterfly swim under water 15 yards. In class: will learn first aid techniques swim 2 lengths of each front and back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly nonstop, lifesaving strokes and surface dives. ADULT CLASSES ages 13 years - adult • 45-minutes Beginner – Become comfortable in water, learn breath control, floating, basic stroke techniques. Intermediate – Comfortable in the water, basic breath control, able to submerge, some locomotion in water. In class: continue to work on breath control, refine basic stroke technique, begin to develop endurance. M/W or T/TH: 7:30 - 8:15 pm SAT: 11:00 am - 11:45 am PRIVATE/SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS members only These lessons consist of instruction which can be broken down into six 30- minute lessons, four 45-minute lessons, or three 1-hour lessons. S-cheduled at the convenience of the student, instructor and pool.
