You have discovered
us – now join us and
experience all we
have on offer! The downtown JCC
at the corner of Spadina and Bloor
continues to be that magical magnet
that has attracted our community
for 63 years. Just walk in the
front door where everyone in the
neighbourhood – and beyond – feels
welcome.
We are part of a network of three
JCCs right across the GTA – that
start downtown and make their way
north, offering a wide range of
services and programs for everyone.
So, come and experience us.
Experience our music programs
with four choirs, the Suzuki music
program or the Klezmer ensemble.
Experience a Fitness class, have your
child experience the Libbie Cowan
Childcare or Thomas & Marjorie
Schwartz Preschool. Then there’s
all the family fun of our annual
Chanukah and Purim parties and
weekly Jungle Gym. Experience
the Toronto Jewish Film Society,
or the Floor Hockey league or our
new Tummies to Mummies prenatal classes. Everywhere you will
experience the rich life on offer at the

From the president
Welcome to the
wonderful world of the
Miles Nadal JCC
On behalf of the Miles
Nadal JCC Board of
Directors, we wanted
to take this opportunity
to bring you up to date
on what the Board has
been doing on behalf
of you, our Members.
We are in Year Three of a five-year
Strategic Plan. The Plan has been an
important tool to help us keep our
focus and provide the best services
for Children and Families, Adults and
Seniors. We are seeing the benefits
of this renewed focus in programming
and activities all around the building.
To date the results have brought
programming streams together,
helped us work more closely with our
community partners, and enabled
us to budget responsibly. We will
be keeping you informed as we
introduce new innovations
throughout the year. Our ultimate
goal is to provide programs, activities
and services to our broad community
of members, and to strengthen the
bond you feel with our “hub” at the
best intersection in the city.

Who We Are • Miles Nadal JCC
The MNjcc is
proud to be a
UJA Federation
Agency. Through its ongoing
commitment to the Jewish community
and the efforts of its Tomorrow
Campaign, UJA Federation has rebuilt
and owns the MNjcc building as well
as the Schwartz/Reisman Centre and
Prosserman JCC. The UJA leadership
and vision enable us to build our
Jewish institutions and program them
for the whole community.
The MNjcc is
proud to be one
of the founding
agencies of the United Way. With
its support, we can assure that
Membership is accessible to those
in financial need, and that children,
seniors and women-in-transition
benefit from programs in our
community. United Way continues to
build our capacity to serve the needs
of people in Toronto.
Miles Nadal JCC • Where We Are
Capital Improvement Fee
There is a 1% Capital Improvement Fee on all programs and services. We
are sure you can appreciate that your fees alone do not cover the costs of
running the MNjcc. This fee assists us in replacing equipment in the Fitness
Centre as well as the cost of much needed capital improvements to our
facility. As the year goes on, we will let you know how these additional
dollars are being spent.

Accessible Facility
The MNjcc is an accessible
facility, with wheelchair access to
programming and meeting rooms,
the Phil Granovsky Fitness Centre,
the Freddie Shore Aquatic Centre
and the Al Green Theatre. This
is due, in part, to a grant from
the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
All washroom areas also have
designated accessible facilities. All
staff have undergone AODA training
in compliance with Government of
Ontario regulations.
Statement of Commitment to
Accessibility and Inclusion
Diversity and social inclusion are at
the heart of what we do at the Miles
Nadal JCC. We regard the diversity
of our community as a source of
strength and richness. We are
committed to identifying, preventing
and removing barriers -- in our
facilities, programs and services
-- as we work towards becoming
a barrier-free JCC. We will ensure
that diverse individuals and
communities share in program
development, have opportunity
to give feedback, are involved in
decision making processes and
have fair access to information and
services. We are committed to
providing an accessible employment
environment. We are committed to
the principles of the Accessibility
for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
(AODA), and aim to ensure that
dignity, integration and equality of
opportunity are embedded in all
aspects of JCC culture.
Statement of Accommodation
The MNjcc is committed to
accessibility. Please let us know if
you have any accessibility needs.
Service Disruptions
Information about service disruptions
will be communicated through a
message on our phone system, on
our website, on our Twitter feed, and
with signage on site.
Programs for People with
Disabilities
At the MNjcc, we envision a
community that acknowledges and
respects difference and celebrates
everyone’s contribution. We are
committed to the integration of
people of all abilities into our
programs, and we want to explore
how we can best meet your needs.
Tell us about your experiences,
your ideas, and your program
needs. Contact Liviya Mendelsohn,
Accessibility and Inclusion Coordinator:

45 minute lesson. This level sees
the participants honing past skills
like front and back crawl, as well
the introduction of elementary

The MNjcc has worked with Heart Wise Exercise to develop and identify
programs and classes that are appropriate for people who want to stay
healthy or who may be living with a chronic health condition.
A program or class that displays the Heart Wise Exercise logo does all of the
following:
1. Encourages regular, daily aerobic exercise
2. Encourages and incorporates warm up, cool down and self-monitoring
with all exercise sessions
3. Allows participants to exercise at a safe level and offers options to modify
intensity
4. Includes participants with chronic health conditions – physician approval
may be required
5. Offers health screening for all participants
6. Has a documented emergency plan that is known to all exercise leaders,
including the requirement of current CPR certification, phone access to
local paramedic services and presence of a defibrillator.
Heart Wise Exercise-approved offerings cover different types of exercise with
different levels of intensity. The MNjcc Group Exercise schedule will help you
find the Heart Wise Exercise program for you. If you’re not sure, please ask at
the Fitness Desk or ask your healthcare provider.
