WELCOME
Memorial Medical Center (MMC), located in
Ashland, WI, serves as a regional medical referral
center for patients from seven northwestern
Wisconsin counties and the neighboring Gogebic
County of Michigan. MMC offers inpatient and
outpatient services including: medical-surgical;
critical care; obstetrics including labor, delivery,
postpartum and recovery suites; behavioral
health; and 24-hour emergency care. MMC
opened as a private, not-for-profit hospital in
1972, combining the services previously provided
by Trinity Hospital and Ashland Community
Hospital, both located in Ashland. MMC is a
Critical Access Hospital with over 50 full-time
physicians on staff and over 400 employees. It
is the only hospital located in Ashland, Bayfield
and Iron Counties.

This rotation offers the opportunity to experience
first-hand the approach of general surgeons
from two separate clinics in the area. Rotations
in General Surgery include both inpatient
and outpatient surgeries: orthopedic, urology,
ophthalmology, and OB/GYN in addition to
general surgery.
EMERGENCY MEDICINE –
Rotation Experiences:
Memorial Medical Center is proud to offer a
number of elective resident rotations in Family
Practice, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine,
Behavioral Health Services, and at a local
Community Health Center. This very busy rural
critical access hospital houses an urgent care
center along with an ER that uses a progressive
care setting using evidence-based standard
of care initiatives to lead the care provided to
the community from wellness checks, trauma,
stroke and cardiac care. Support diagnostic
services and rehabilitation services are also
included in the care of our patients. Being a rural
site in a retirement and vacation area, residents
will be faced with a broad spectrum of health
issues in a socioeconomically diverse population
served by an integrated care model. The MMC’s
preceptors are committed to providing high
quality learning experiences through its medical
education program.

room, and urgent care clinic has combined
volumes of more than 13,000 visits per year.
This ER is a progressive care setting using
evidence-based standard of care initiatives to
lead the care provided; from wellness checks,
trauma, stroke and cardiac care. Memorial
Medical Center will soon implement tele-health
services to enhance the services of care we
provide to the community.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES –

This rotation offers the resident the opportunity
to work in an integrated care model with hospital
staff and other community providers within a full
range of inpatient and outpatient mental health
services and addiction treatment.

ESSENTIA HEALTH- ASHLAND CLINIC –
Dr. Kathleen Gang and Dr. Jill Schenk
Experience first-hand a full family medicine
practice. This rotation offers learning experiences
in the clinic, hospital, obstetrics unit, and
emergency department. This experience includes
an active obstetrics practice including C-sections.
Also included are GI procedures, including
colonoscopy and EGD, and dermatologic
procedures, Including Botox, Juvederm, and
spider vein treatment.
NORTHLAKES COMMUNITY CLINIC –

Dr. Jacqueline Redmer, and Dr. Mary
Ann Anderson
Within the Community Health Center residents
will have the opportunity to work in a team-based
clinic with Family Medicine specialist physician
and nurse practitioner, pharmacist, behavioral
health professionals, counselors, dentists and
other health care services. Primarily outpatient
with some inpatient experience.
