Vendor Product Information
Sonexis ConferenceManager
Release 10
Approximate list price: ~ $800 per audio port $400 per web seat
Architecture Overview
The Sonexis ConferenceManager will integrate with the ShoreTel solution via
SIP or traditional TDM tie lines. When integrating via SIP the ShoreTel
and Sonexis devices should reside on the same LAN segment in a network
environment configured for prioritization of voice traffic (DSCP 46). The
Sonexis ConferenceManager supports standard SIP integration using RFC 2833
or SIP INFO for DTMF relay. Audio is supported via RTP 20ms payload using
ports 11000-13000 UDP. The Sonexis ConferenceManager supports Ethernet
connectivity at 1000 or 100 Mbs. By default the Network Interface Cards
are configured to auto-negotiate for speed and duplex. For SIP
integration, a Shoregear 60/12 or similar is required. The Sonexis
ConferenceManager will support up to 120 simultaneous connections with 1- 8
DSP AC-1 card, or up to 200 simultaneous connections with 1- 12 DSP AC-1
card. For integrations above 200 ports, systems are cascaded with the
appropriate AC-1 configuration.
For traditional TDM integration, the Sonexis ConferenceManager supports CAS
(channel associated signaling) via E&M Wink as well as PRI/ISDN integration
via NI2, 5ESS, 4ESS, DMS100, DMS250. The ConferenceManager supports D4/AMI
and ESF/B8ZS. For integrations up to 96 ports, 1- 8 DSP AC-1 card is
required (4 RJ48 ports per card). For integrations from 97 up to 192
ports, 1- 8 DSP AC-1 and 1- 12 DSP AC-1 are required (4 RJ48 ports per
card). For integrations above 192 ports, systems are cascaded with the
appropriate AC-1 configuration.

Requirements, Certification and Limitations
The Sonexis ConferenceManager is a self contained system requiring no
additional hardware or software to operate. The ConferenceManager is
delivered on a 2U, 19”rack mount server. The operating system is Microsoft
Windows Server 2008. Sonexis strongly recommends the installation of an
antivirus client on the system prior to deployment.
Customers are
encouraged to utilize whatever antivirus solution is deployed on other
systems in their environment. Critical Microsoft Windows Server 2008
updates should be applied as they become available. In short, the customer
should treat this server as they would any other Microsoft Windows 2008
server in their environment.

Configuration Overview
The ConferenceManager requires a static IP address, appropriate gateway,
DNS information, and Ethernet connectivity to the ShoreTel equipment on the
standard SIP ports (5060/5061) and RTP ports 11000-13000 for SIP
integrations. Port 80 is required for Web functionality; port 8097 is
required for administrative management. The ShoreTel hardware requirements
will depend on the type of integration selected (SIP or TDM). For SIP
integrations the Shoregear 60/12 or similar will be required (as well as
the associated SIP licensing) to provide SIP trunking. For TDM
integrations, one Shoregear T1 module is required for each T1 span, for
example a 48 port Sonexis system, 2 ShoreGear T1 switches will be required.

ShoreTel Configuration
Be sure the system is NOT set to use RTP port 5004 for RTP. Uncheck the
box if it is checked-THIS REQUIRES A REBOOT OF ALL SHORETEL EQUIPMENT,
EVERY PHONE, EVERY SWITCH, SHOREWARE DIRECTOR, ETC. This is configured on
the CALL CONTROL/OPTIONS screen. Also, be sure the Sonexis is plugged
directly into the same LAN switch as the ShoreTel as you want the VOIP
traffic between the two systems isolated from the rest of the network. For
best audio quality be sure the switch supports prioritization via DSCP.
1 Shoretel SIP license is required for each Sonexis Audio Port. Obtain a
license from your ShoreTel reseller for the required SIP ports. - i.e. if
you have 48 audio ports on the ConferenceManager, you will need 48 SIP
ports on the ShoreTel SIP trunk to the ConferenceManager.
You will need to create/configure a SIP trunk group on the ShoreTel. Set
the “teleworkers” checkbox. Sonexis supports either “SIP info for G.711
DTMF Signaling” or RFC 2833(which is the default on Shoretel). Note:
Enabling the “Teleworkers” parameter causes the ShoreTel system to utilize
960 Stewart Drive Sunnyvale, CA 94085 USA Phone +1.408.331.3300 +1.877.80SHORE Fax +1.408.331.3333 www.ShoreTel.com
- 13 -
the Inter-Site Codec. Mark the checkbox for “Tandem Trunking” this will
allow trunk to trunk calls, ie calls that come in via T1 to get routed over
the SIP trunk to the Sonexis. This feature is combined with a “user
group”, be sure you associate a group that has trunk to trunk privileges.
Fill in the “number of digits from CO” field, typically 4 (how many digits
are you going to pass to the Sonexis?). Also, check the “outbound” check
box and configure an access code (ie the number a person would dial to get
that trunk group- 9 is most likely already taken for an outside line,
perhaps 8 is free). You must also put in the area code. Save the trunk
group. For further information please refer to ShoreTel’s Planning and
Installation Guide.
From the same trunk group screen, configure the "off system extension" to
be the ext/DNIS you want to use for the Conferencing System. For example,
if you want your outside callers to dial 555-555-5555 to get to the
ConferenceManager, then you need to configure 5555 as the ext for "off
system ext". This is configured via a button at the very bottom of the
“sip trunk group edit” screen. It asks for a range, if you‟re using a
single ext just type that in twice, ie 5555 to 5555. This is only a
recommendation to ease you in extension planning; it’s not necessary to
match the DNIS / DID number to the Off System Extension (OSE).

- 15 -
You will also need to add this EXT to the DNIS MAP on your inbound T1 or
Analog lines so that the ShoreTel will recognize the DNIS and route the
call to the Sonexis (depending on whether you use 3 or 4 digit extensions
and what your phone company passes for DNIS digits). From the T1 and/or
Analog trunk group edit screen, select EDIT DNIS MAP. Put the “received
digits” in the first field (what does the phone company pass, ie last 4 of
the phone number associated with the Sonexis 617-458-5800), put the whole
“dialed number” in the next field ie (617) 458-5800, then click the “off
system” radio button and type the ext you configured in “off system ext” on
the SIP trunk group. Now click “add record”

- 16 -
You will then need to configure individual trunks in the SIP trunk group
you created that point at the IP of the ConferenceManager. Choose the
“individual trunks” link in the “trunks” section, then “add new trunk” and
choose the SIP trunk group you created in step 4 from the drop down list.
Put in the number of trunks (same as number of audio ports on the Sonexis)
and the IP of the Sonexis in the “Use IP Address” field. Choose the
appropriate switch in the drop down list, this will be the switch with the
SIP capability on it ie 60/12. Save.

You will need to configure the Admission Control Bandwidth for the site
based on the number of ports, refer to chapter 9 in the ShoreTel Network
Planning Guide for specific bandwidth numbers to calculate the bandwidth
necessary. Roughly 85K/port. 10 ports would require 850K of bandwidth.
This feature will PREVENT calls if you exceed the bandwidth and will play a
message to the caller that says “I‟m sorry the network is busy; please try
your call again later”. If you hear this message, you have allocated too
little bandwidth.
If you have configured the Sonexis Conference Manager product for TDM use,
you will need to configure the ShoreGear T1. Following is an example of a
ShoreGear T1 configured for PRI, be sure to also configure the appropriate
PRI (or Digital Wink Start) Trunk Group. Please refer to ShoreTel’s
Administration Guide for more information on configuring ShoreGear T1s.
