The Clayton Lions Club is a service organiza on with a primary focus on community
service projects in Clayton and the State of North Carolina. Membership dues cover all administra ve costs, thereby allowing 100% of fundraising profits to be returned to the community and others in need. CLAYTON POLICE DEPARTMENT Clayton Lions also support the Lions Club Interna onal Founda on (LCIF), which
enables Lions to tackle global problems
such as blindness, hearing loss, diabetes,
and respond to major catastrophes such
as earthquakes and floods.
At their Interna onal Conven on in 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions as follows: “…I appeal to you Lions…Will you not cons tute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?” The Clayton Lions Club financially supports
Camp Dogwood, a facility for the visually impaired near Charlo e, NC. Funding to a end
this camp is provided for individuals from the community. We also support the NC Lions
Brighter Visions program, which helps to fund ac vi es such as a Mobile Screening Unit
that provides free vision and hearing screenings with this year’s screening on Oct. 22nd.
Chartered in 2008, the Clayton Lions Club annually gives back to the community in
various ways. Recent charitable contribu ons include school supplies to a Clayton area
school for special‐needs children and dona ons to Clayton Area Food Pantries. Our club
also makes dona ons outside the Clayton community to worthy organiza ons such as
the Boys and Girls Clubs of Johnston County and the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Indeed, we
are always exploring new ways to be of service to our neighbors in need.
Eyeglass collec on boxes are placed around Clayton for distribu on to Third World
countries. These are just a
few examples of how we
carry out our mission to
serve the community.

Attention All
Emergency
Responders and
Public Information
Officers
When the siren sounds or your pager goes off, you could be responding to an incident that threatens the life or safety of people for whom you are responsible. You know what to do. You’ve been trained for this.
But you also know that members of the media likely will be at the scene
wanting to know answers to relay to a concerned public. You can’t afford
to ignore them; they have a job to do. But you have not been trained on
what to say and how to say it. This book was written to help you. It
contains advice on:
 Choosing a good spokesperson  Speaking in terms of the public’s “Core Values”  Employing the “10 C’s of Good Crisis Communica ons”  Words to avoid  Crea ng effec ve messages to convey facts  An cipa ng the most likely ques ons Local author Judy Hoffman used to be the spokesperson for a chemical manufacturing
company in New York that had its share of incidents requiring emergency response
and media interaction. After 17 years with the microphone in her face, she began her
own consulting company, teaching workshops on how to handle these difficult
situations. Twenty years later (which included a move to Clayton in 2006), she is now
concentrating on getting this book into the hands of those who can benefit from it. It
has been adopted as a text by a dozen colleges. It is a handy reference guide that
belongs on the desk of the Chiefs and PIO’s of Fire and Police Departments.
To order, please contact Judy Hoffman at professors@judyhoffman.com or (919) 550‐8302. List price: $24.95
