HABITAT WOMEN’S BUILD: The next general meeting for the Habitat Women Build will be February 16th, our club meeting night.
"Roof Raiser", a fundraiser will take place at Statler City on March 23rd.
The homeowner' name was revealed - Modeste Sahingejeje is from Brundi and has a 24 year old
daughter and two sons ages 19 and 9. She has already completed 245 hours toward her home. We are
hoping that she will be working along side of us to complete her 500 hours.
Everyone working on the women build is asked to go to the www.habitatbuffalo.org website and
complete the safety course. My understanding is the course is under "Volunteer Up" on the website.
You have to create an account with a password to complete it. The more people that complete the
safety course, the better our insurance premium will be.
Habitat will have all the necessary tools that will be needed, so there is no need to bring your own. All
that is needed is your enthusiasm and good sturdy work shoes! However, if anyone feels inclined, the
most used tools are your own gloves, sunscreen, a 25 ft tape measure, lots of pencils, a right angle
square and a dry wall knife. If you do bring tools, make sure you label them as they get legs as soon as
you bring them on site. There will be a schedule of workshops set up by the next meeting.
The fundraising committee is looking for donations. It appears that Donna Ketchum Coletta is going to
each of the Zonta organizations in our region for monetary donations and then there will be one
donation from the Zonta region. However, if anyone wants to individually donate, they can contact me.
We are already selling tickets and have a registration flyer on the next page. So make as many copies
as you like and please spread the word. Let’s get the Statler main ballroom for free. We would like to
make the promise that all money raised (except for printing which is minimal) will go directly to building
the house.
Women build t-shirts ($10) and a chance for a week vacation in the Smokey Mountains ($10) will be
sold at the meetings as well. If anyone wants one, they can contact me and I can bring to the next
Zonta meeting. I will continue to keep you informed.
